Wood vs. plywood

eleena

There have been a few recent threads dicsussing use of plywood vs. particle boards (ODS being one of them) for kitchen cabinets. I also know that cabinet doors are often made of hardwood (at least, for higher-end cabinets) and so are drawers.

I have a different question, which may sound really silly, so I apologize for my ignorance in advance. :-)

Why not use only wood for the entire cabinet? Is it just cost-prohibitive or there is a structural advantage to using plywood (or particle board) for cabinet walls?

Let's say, I DYI'd and used pine, so the cost is not a deciding factor. Would it be better or worse than plywood cabinets?
