Magic Bullet

I'm thinking about making fruit smoothies this summer for the girls and would like an easy way to do it and clean up!Anyone have one of these? I'm just curious if they are worth it? Don't know much about them or even the price. Are they easy to clean? Can you put it in the dishwasher?

I don't have one. I don't know the price either, but here are some reviews on Epinions.com.
I have checked there lots for different things I think of buying....I always figure there will be some thing like it and some that don't. I read and then make my decision.

I've heard mixed reviews on the bullet from several friends who have them. But for shakes and smoothies all agree it's a great tool.

We have an Oster blender and bought some "Blend n Go" cups. One for each member of the family. Shakes are made in each individual cup (more than a Bullet holds) and cleanup is easy. If you already have a blender, check to see if this type of cup is made for it. That would mean easy cleanup without having to buy yet another appliance.

I can't verify how good the Back to Basics Blender Express is, but I've had fantastic success with their Smoothie Maker. And with Back to Basics you can order replacement parts for just about any of their products. I'm very happy with their products.

I am thinking seriously about getting one, too. The Reader's Digest printed an article in April's issue about "As Seen on TV" products. They chose 13 products and out of 4 stars, only 2 products got all 4. The Magic Bullet was one of them. But for me, I think the deciding factor would be to talk to someone who actually has one and get their feedback.

Is there something I can do with a Magic Bullet ;)

I like mine. Small amounts of whipped cream (yeah, it COULD go with the other silver bullet.......be quiet). Quick chop nuts (oh geez.......this is bad) or veggies. Smoothies and shakes are good. Make bread crumbs as needed. I roast garlic and puree it with some olive oil, then freeze in "pats" to use later (good way to use up a bunch that's getting past it's prime). The whipped cream is the best though.....I like it fresh and it's yucky if it's sits overnight so I can make just a small amount that will be used immediately. I like the fact that there's just 2 small parts to wash. Deanna

I wanted one a couple of years ago, when they came out.

Instead, I bought a Farberware Hand Blender that has a chopping attachment.
Cheaper, and it's sturdy. I use it all the time to mince herbs, make breadcrumbs, chop onions, make smoothies, mix instant pudding, pancke batter, etc.

The link below shoes the current model. Mine didn't come with a wall mount.

I bought a set for myself & one for my DD a couple of years ago, and we're both happy with it. I make smoothies and grate cheese, plus mix tuna, chicken salad, etc.

I have one and don't think it works well as a grater at all but it works fine for smoothies. IMHO, though, there's a lot of pieces and it takes up a lot of storage room for what it does. I don't know how many you would be making at one time, but a blender works just as good and you can make more than one drink at once. I personally would not recommend buying one unless you're a single person and like to drink smoothies everyday. It's one of those gadgets that look and sound better than they actually are. I had dreams of making smoothies all the time too... never happened... I think I used the bullet twice, packed it away and haven't seen it in years.

My DH used it for his protein smoothies every morning. Loves the thing. I've used it once or twice, and it did the job. You can get them fairly cheap now.

It's really just a small blender with lots of extra cups, so if you have a blender, you don't need a Magic Bullet. If you wish you had a blender, get a blender instead.

Bought one a couple of years ago and use it a lot for milkshakes/smoothies. I probably wouldn't buy it again as it doesn't do a lot of things as easily and fast as the TV commercials show.I would rather have a good blender or food processor or one of the hand held things.Last time I looked at Wal-Mart the Bullet was around $80.00. Mine was on clearance when I bought it at a kitchen supply store in Santa Fe,NM for $50.00.

I have one as well. Like others said, great for smoothies, but forget about the making homemade salsa or grating cheese, or all the other stuff the infomercial says they can do.

If you put them in the dishwasher, be forewarned that the plastic doesn't take high temp water very well. I forgot one time and washed one in the sanitize wash and the plastic cracked.

I already have a blender, but it feels so big to lug out and clean. I was hoping that this would be able to make just 2-3 small servings for me and the girls. I feel like the regular blender would make a HUGE amount.

carla-Yes, I usually think whatever gadget will work perfectly and I'll use it daily! Never works out that way does it??

So I'll probably skip-I certainly don't need anymore stuff in my cabinets. In all likelihood, I probably won't be doing the smoothies more then once a week, so I guess the regular blender will be fine!

    Thanks all for the advice!

It's very small, takes up maybe 5" diameter of counter space, and even with a cup on top, it's not all that tall, maybe 12" or so. For multiple users the several sets of cups are quite handy. It does a great job with smoothies, but I never tried it for anything else. I've had no problem with the cups in the dishwasher, just be sure to put them on top rack, away from heat. BBB has it for $49.99, and Amazon and Target $54.99. This is for the basic 17-piece set, not the 21-piece set, which seems to be in the the $70-80 range.

I have and use a stick blender. I make smoothies with just yogurt, frozen whole strawberries and banana with a splash of milk all the time. What I like about the hand held is that I can use any size narrowish container and make any amount I want to make at a time. I'll often use the end of a quart of yogurt right in the quart yogurt container. It does a great job of grinding up the frozen strawberries [they're the biggest and hardest fruit]. Then you just clean it by whizzing it in a container of water in the sink and it's really cleaned. I do take the blade off afterward just to make sure all is clean but it's much easier to clean that than a blender or the bullet. Plus you can use it right in your pots to smooth out gravy or to chop meat or small amounts of veggies. Also they're quite cheap compared to the bullet.

I recently got a Magic Bullet with Airmiles so I feel like it cost me nothing. I make a smoothie for my little guy every morning and find the Bullet to be extremely easy to use and cleanup is a snap. I leave the base on the counter, rinse the blade and put it upside down on the base, safe and easy. I usually wash out the cup separately but have put them in the diswasher a few times with no problem. I don't like the way it chops onions but I have a little mini chopper that cost ten bucks for that. I grate a big block of cheese in my large processor and freeze it. I hate hauling out great big appliances for small jobs, especially daily jobs. Also, I have had two expensive blenders die on me in the last five years so the Bullet is really a good solution for me.

I really like my bullet also. I use it a couple times a week to grind chicken or ham for salad sandwiches.
I used it Sunday to grind shrimp and added to fresh hamburgers. ( I added the egg and seasoning at the same time)
I also like it for scrambled eggs.
I make smoothies only a couple times a month.
I will warn that it took me a while to learn not to overload it!

I have one and I LOVE it. It's more than a small blender...the motor is super powerful and it crushes ice like crazy. It has a cup that you put the stuff into, then you screw on the blade thingee. You turn it upside down put it on the base and push down. It only takes a few pulses to get everything pureed. I thought it was a waste when Jason bought it but I use it almost everyday. It makes the BEST smoothies or milkshakes and we end up eating a ton more fruit then we would without it. I buy bananas and frozen fruit like mangos or berries, throw some of those in, a blast of milk or juice, a few ice cubes and YUM!

Great investment! One cup of it is great for all of the girls.
