You have a very formal dining and living room and a formal entry. That plain yellow rug does nothing for me. What about picking up some of the non-yellow colors you have going in your wallpaper and living room decors in a formal oriental-style rug? Have you looked at any Karastan rugs? Rugs are really hard, but they're also a fairly large investment, too. Don't rush into anything just to fill the space.

How about the "Scrolled Scallop" rug at Horchow.com? It comes in a few colors -- I think the dark base with reds/maroons would be nice -- and a circular shape lends some drama to your lovely entry...

This is in your entry, right? That yellow rug will show every speck of dirt! Maybe this was shown in pics posted earlier (?) but what do you have for rugs in the adjacent spaces (living room and dining room)? You'll want to consider those when choosing your foyer rug.

I'm thinking that your tile has a lot of contrast, and I wouldn't want to add to that with additional colors, necessarily. You can find some gorgeous black round rugs with gold accents at Horchow that would add a traditional touch and tie in the colors in your other rooms.

Have you looked at this rug from Karastan? Somehow I can see it in your home; either in your hallway or in the DR. If you like the look be sure to check ebay, they often have rugs with this pattern.

Thank you one and all for your great advice. I'm still looking and one day, I know I'll find the rug. And just want all of you to know how much I appreciate this forum! I think I've learned more from it than any decorator out there!

I'm thinking the paleness of the yellow might not look right on the black/white floor. This is hard because you do kind of have pastels in the adjoining rooms. I agree with the advice to take your time until you find the perfect rug. I was looking through some designs just to see if anything jumped out at me for your foyer. The traditionals just don't seem quite right to me but you can't go too casual either. I'm no rug expert, it took me dragging home several rugs and returning them to the store before I found the right ones for my home. I was amazed at how different they looked in MY rooms. Do you like something like this? It's a Karastan (Studio Artworks collection - Mimosa) and comes in several sizes.

of course, I LOVE IT! And I've not seen that particular one....just older ones like, "too hot to handel", "get off my bach!", "going Chopin" etc., but this one is really clever.

Thanks for posting it, and probably I'll have get it, sooner or later. I have such a leaning toward anything with musical motifs on it, and I appreciate you posting it my way!

I can't remember what the room or the floor looks like, but I can tell you from experience, that light rugs, like that yellow one, will show every speck of dirt, etc, just as Sue mentioned. Can we see the pics again?
