LOL...they are smart little things.
One nice spring day last week, we caught Foxy up on her hind legs, trying to use her front paws on the latch to open the storm door to get out!

My cats can turn on my stove burners. I have to put a metal potholder over the touchpads to prevent it from happening.

Darn, just when you hoped you had a ghost with a penchant for doing the laundry!
I used to have a cat that routinely opened doors with door knobs. I've also heard of cats turning on stoves, which is one of the reasons lock out functions are now available on some models.

We had a dog that loved to lean on a bedside table to look out the window. She turned a clock radio on! LOL

I think writing Maytag would be a good idea. There have been some terrible incidences involving kids and dryers.

Around 11:30 one night I heard a terrible noise coming from the kitchen oh no the Fridge just went out but no, oh the water heater blew up no..Found out it was a battery operated potato peeler that set itself off in the kitchen drawer what a racket!!

Smart kitty! But I can see that things haven't improved at Maytag. I bought a Maytag washer and dryer 26 years ago when we moved into this house. If you lifted the lid on the washer and let it fall back against the dials- it would shut off the machine. So for the next 12 years I had to gently raise the lid and carefully lean it against the dials whenever I was adding another garment or the fabric softener.

Your story brought back a funny memory for me. Years ago, my son had a Siamese cat named Cocoa that was my son's little shadow. One day, I had opened the lid for the washer and forgotten something else I wanted to wash. Apparently, Cocoa had jumped into the washer while I was out of the room and I had no idea he was in there. I started the water and heard this terrible scream and out jumped this drenched cat, flying to get away from that washer.

Mcmann, I must have had the same washer! Seriously, I had Maytags that long ago, I think, or close to it, and I remember that issue with the washer. Very annoying. The washer lasted a long time, though.......well past the point at which I was looking forward to a new one. :-)

My cat used to jump on my bedside table, walk on my clock radio and step on the buttons. I would come home to find the radio playing.

I've had Maytag for quite a few years and I have never had any problems with them. There is no way a cat could turn on my dryer. You would have to turn a knob and then on the other side push a large button. Funny though what pets can do.

This why we unplug small appliances. Cat pushed on button, Toaster oven got turned on. Thank goodnes we had a all tile counter and good wall construction. The outside was so hot we could not put our hands on it. Took over an hour with a hose, very dark, very cold, very windy to cool it off. Really scared because it could have burned the whole house down without really knowing how it happened. Even today, no cat, still unplug things around the counter.

We were visiting my inlaws 100km away when DH's cell phone rang. He looked at the incoming number without answering and realised it was our house number. "Who is at our house calling me????" he asked- there's just the two of us and we were both at the inlaws. Had one of those "Eek! What do we do?" moments before we realised that the cat must have stepped on the "redial" button on our office desk phone. The last call must have been to DH's cell phone.

colleenoz, the poor thing was just lonely. You had the poor thing worried to death. You were supposed to CALL when you arrived!

My brother (YEARS ago now) called me and asked if I had been to his place over the previous week and of course I hadn't. He was sure I had been there since the TV was on when he got home and couldn't figure it out. He blamed me for it for months. Then one day he was napping on the couch, turned off the TV, dropped the remote on the floor, as always, and kicked back to snooze. Well it only took about 30 seconds and the one cat jumped down from the chair and walked to the remote and started pushing his paw down on the buttons. After about 5-6 pushes, CLICK, the TV turned on, the cat walked back to the chair, hopped up and watched the rest of Grizzley Adams!

My old partner's would keep a small electric blanket on the chair for use while reading and TV watching. They kept coming home to it being on and blamed each other until they saw the cat hop up, push the button and curl up on the blanket.

My old Siamese cat would open my sliding glass screen door and go out. One night when my DD and I were alone the doorbell rang really late around midnight and we carefully opened it and it was Simon standing on an old barrel I had on the porch w/ his paw on the bell.

ann in florida your post reminds me of what happened to mom's cat only with the dryer.

Penny learned how to use her claws to open the door, hop in, snuggle down and go to sleep. This was an old dryer that used a pilot light, so the inside was always warm. One day mom opened the door tossed in some laundry, closed the door and hit start as she had all ready selected the cycle. Next thing she knew she heard this wailing coming from the dryer and rushed to open it. Yep, Penny had been snoozing and when the dryer started she got tumbled. Mom got the biggest kick out of the look Penny gave her when she was let out. It was like "Didn't you know I was sleeping in there!"

It apparently didn't faze her all that much as she continued to sleep in the dryer until she died.
