About farms and moving and dial-up...

So we've moved. And we're renting a farm house which is kind of funny because I am such a "town" girl who was born and raised in a city. It's definitely different, but it's a character builder, right? And you definitely can't beat the quiet/views/wildlife!

And I've been missing the KT lately because we only got dial-up yesterday. So here I am! Did anyone miss me? :) I forgot dial-up was so slow. I can catch up on my magazines while things load though! LOL

I'll post a few pictures tomorrow as soon as Jason fixes the FTP and such for me. I missed you all!

Oh I'll bet that is a change for you, being in the country. Dial up is a PITA for sure.

We are almost done with the same process, but not on such a grand scale! It's the best time of year, when things are dormant, to move them. We moved several figs, a small vineyard, and a few roses. Anytime you have to cut roots to dig them out, you need to cut the branches so that they don't die from lack of roots. They will do fine, even the huge ones!! I heard the word, "farm," and I wondered if the goat would eat your roses, but on recheck, you don't have a goat, right? Law School is well worth the money. My son went that route and is very successful. The key is to find a niche in which nobody in your town specializes. Then, you become the "go to" guy, and people from other towns come to you as your fame grows. He is in Southern California and has clients in Northern California as well. Being located in Wine country, he specializes in wineries and the legal issues of that entire sector. He also does real estate and contract law. You can make a ton of money as an attorney as long as you hang out your own shingle and work for yourself. Good luck with all of it! What was the blue flower under the blue rose structure? Geranium 'Rozanne'. It photographs blue, it in person is a light purple. It is a truly wonderful plant; it doesn't reseed. I recommend it highly. It blooms like crazy. It is easy to clean--the old stems just come right off given a gentle tug--and it does not spread via roots so it doesn't bother the roses. What did you use to video this and how do you get it loaded to the internet. I used the movie option on my still camera and uploaded it to photobucket and posted the link here. That is why the quality is not great. A real video camera would probably have better resolution.

Matt, My wife agrees with yours about the lack of normality. She doesn't like snakes at all, the other herps she's okay with. I think I've got my 2 yr. old son on my side. Never mind, I was just trying to move too fast, there is a choice of how all connections are set up, the first/default is wireless, and I didn't correct to what I wanted. Not so different in this respect from XP, I just didn't look.

Were you in the middle of moving during your recent cold spell and snow?

Yes, dial-up is a pain.

I hope that you enjoy your new place. A friendly visit to a few neighbours will help you find friends in the community ... and have them include you in things that are going on.

Welcome to going Rural!

Have you looked into Satellite Internet. I had to call several companies before I found one that could work for me. We have so many tall trees, they claim they can't get a read on the Towers.

It wasn't cheap to start up, but monthly it isn't that bad.
