? for those who have a plastic spray head on your faucet

Do you like having a plastic sprayhead? Does it feel cheap, does it scratch?

I've found several faucets I like but I think they have plastic spray heads and I'm worried about a metal looking plastic getting scratched or feeling cheap.

I'm looking at getting a lower profile faucet (8-10")and most of them have plastic pull out sprays.

I have the Moen extensa which has a plastic handle. Yes it feels cheap and yes it scratches easily. I had no idea the sprayhead was plastic! I bought it and never took it out of the box and didn't realize it until the plumber was here to install it. Making the sprayhead out of plastic must be a new thing because I had the same faucet in almond in my previous kitchen and it was all metal. It's on my list of things to change some day! Good Luck

I have the Moen Extensa in almond right now too. It does have a nice heavy head.

linelle - Painting the DW was pretty painless. DH removed the door panel, which also has the sides on it on my KA model, and I took it out back and scrubbed it with soapy water, rinsed well and let dry. Then, I lightly scuffed with fine grit sandpaper like 180 or 220 and wiped down with a dry, lint free cloth. Sprayed first coat and let dry, then sprayed second coat and let dry. DH put the panel back on and you can see the result below. As I said though, I want to try and see if I can paint the plastic part at the top with that Krylon paint that fuses with plastic so it won't wear off. The door latch is in that part (obviously) and gets touched a lot so I want something that will last. The appliance epoxy I used was a Rustoleum product. It looks so much better painted than the white is used to be, but not nearly as nice as an actual SS DW will when I can afford it. I'm planning to paint my fridge also with the same paint at some point as it is all white too. Much bigger job than just the DW door panel, however. Before: After with partial backsplash install.

Hi marcolo, yes that is Theresse's faucet- absolutely perfect in her kitchen and even with my hesitation about it's quirks, I always covet hers when I see her photos! The showroom model I played with was not live, so I could not experience full functionality, these are just my impressions. I expected to be able to just easily slide the sprayer out and down from the neck and retract it back when I'm done -- like traditional pull out/pull down faucets I've experienced. The Jaclo seemed to want you to lift the handspray up and off. (Maybe there is an easier trick?) The faucet neck is like a big tray--you lift off the flexible tube sprayer, move the tube around the neck to use, and then when done you need to lift the tubing up, line it back up with the tray, and push it back down into place securing the hand spray mechanism. My memory is that there was no button on the sprayer attachment. I believe the spray pattern could be adjusted, though and if I remember correctly the salesperson explained that you could twist the head of the sprayer mechanism to change flow pattern. If that were true-maybe Theresse will chime in?-it seems very inconvenient to need two hands to adjust your aeration pattern when you just need to rinse off some berries or whatever. (see link below for davidro's comment about potential to accidentally spray yourself with this faucet, too. I thought this was what he was referring to since there is no "pause" button on the sprayer.) It seems like you'd have to think about this and adjust your spray before the water was on, which seems difficult if you can't see the spray... The part of the sprayer that you hold felt a bit awkwardly small. It looks very streamlined, but in my hand I almost wanted to hold more like you would a pencil (that is to say, with my fingers) rather than grasping with my whole hand. (It's not a wall mount--and I didn't select it because the sprayer retracted too loudly--but for comparison ergonomically the best pull down hand sprayer I played with--my girlfriend just got one so I've also used it live now--is the Grohe Bridgeford faucet. Extremely comfortable to hold/grip/well-designed to fit in your hand. The opposite of holding the Jaclo handsprayer which felt too...delicate?) I feel like I'm frequently mentioning aging in place/arthritis/carpal tunnel considerations in kitchen planning, but I'll say here too, in my opinion the Jaclo would not be a good choice if any of those issues are a concern. Trying to describe all these little things here undoubtedly makes them seem like a bigger problem then they are. And all that said, for the functionality of even having an integrated wall mount sprayer--not to mention the cool/sexy factor-- I think the faucet is still something worth investigating. Everyone, thanks for chiming in. I really do like the faucet, its just the side spray that I was hung up on. I ordered it from Overstockdeals.com, and I was a bit concerned that it was lesser quality than something I might buy from a kohler showroom, but I checked the box and all the model numbers match and the faucet and side spray look exactly like they do on the kohler website, so perhaps I'm in good shape. I will say that customer service on overstockdeals.com was excellent. I'd definitely recommend them.

Delta and Moen are almost interchangeable in terms of warranty and service. Both offer lifetime warranties on the parts. I'm not sure about Moen but Delta also offers a lifetime warranty on their finishes. If your finish has changed you might want to contact Delta and see if those parts would be covered under warranty. Of course it'd still be a hassle to uninstall and reinstall so if the finish is still fine no need to do anything. We have a lot of experience selling Delta Shower Faucets. You can read our article which will teach you everything you wanted to know (and probably more) about Delta Showers here. In regards to the plastic elements, we get asked about that a lot. We are an authorized Delta reseller and many people ask us about whether or not the shower faucets we sell are metal or plastic. The answer is, usually there's a mixture. Some Delta Showers are all metal, others are a combination of metal and plastic. It simply depends on what shape and style they are going for and how the engineers decided how best to fabricate the part. That being said, keep in mind that even the plastic parts made by Delta have a lifetime warranty. You can literally call them up and they will replace a part that is no longer working. I don't think there's nearly as much to worry about regarding plastic parts as people think. Especially if those parts are backed by a huge company like Delta Faucet with a lifetime warranty. Additionally, people don't always think about the reason plastic has been chosen. In the case of a handheld shower, often plastic is the material of choice because of thermal transfer issues. Metal heats up. If you hold hot metal in your hand it's not so comfortable. Plus, it's possible the hand shower would slip out of your hand and you would drop it. If it's plastic, it's very unlikely to damage your tile or hurt you in any way. If it's heavy and made of metal this may not be the case.

We have the Grohe Ladylux Plus since 2003. Lots of abuse, holds up very well, no problems.

I hated paying $500+ for a plastic sprayhead. That was the deal breaker for me (see my recent post on abandoning Grohe). I got the Price Pfister for a lot less $$$ and it has a metal head.

I have a Kohler pullout faucet with a plastic head. We have had the faucet for 3yrs no scratches or chips and it still has a shinny chrome finish. I paid just under $200.00 for it so it is not top of the line by any means. I was put off at first to find out that most faucets in the price range that I was looking at had a plastic head. Then I remembered that I have been using Waterpik shower heads (which are plastic) for over 30yrs and never had a problem. The American Standard soap dispenser which I paid $50.00 for and installed it at the same time as the faucet, is metal and the chrome finish is starting to pit. In prospective the soap dispenser cost more than the faucet. The mineral content of your water supply is what really determines how a faucet will hold up over time. We do not have hard water so anything we use seems to last.

Do the Grohe Brdgeford pullout and the Kohler Vinnata both have plastic spray heads? These are the ones I've been looking at, and I didn't realize the sprayheads are plastic. I agree that for $500 it shouldn't be plastic! Plus, we have hard water. Grohe does have a great warranty though, so I guess if it started to chip, they'd replace it.

I could not stomach $500 (+100 for the dispenser) for the plastic head on the Grohe Bridgeford. It felt cheap. For $200, I got the Hanover with a metal head and matching (metal) soap dispenser. It too has a lifetime warranty and I figure I saved $400 bucks. Now I can afford my Franke Orca....

Teched - I'll have to check that out!! I too am splurging on my a sink, so if I can save on facuet, all the better. Which finish do you have?

Sorry to hijack...

Susan205, I decided to just go with the chrome. I looked at my existing sink which was a brushed stainless kinda look with the chrome faucet and thought, this looks nice. My granite is too dark to pull off ORB or anything like that. Chrome is timeless. On the bathroom forum, there is much discussion about the Grohe nickel finish not holding up. I'm sure they will replace it, but who wants to deal with that? Also, note that Price Pfister, among others, makes a similar faucet with nearly identical sku numbers for HF and Lowes. You want the "professional" grade.

I just read some of that teched and I think I'll stick with chrome or stainless. My hardware is brushed nickel but I'll deal with it.

I finally located a plumbing supply company near me with a showroom so I'm heading there on Friday. I'm in love with this beauty but it might be junk. Can't seem to find much about it on the internet.

I haven't been on the bathroom forum, but I have to say I have all Grohe brushed nickel in my bathroom that I installed in 2001 and the finish still looks great. The only thing I've had to replace is the little thing on the end of the faucet where the water comes through b/c we have really hard well water. But, Grohe has replaced these with no expense or problem. This is what I have loved about Grohe.

We have a Grohe suite in our shower--rain head, handheld, thermostat, 3 sprays. The head on the handheld is plastic, but I don't take it off the bar more than once a day, so it doesn't bother me. The finish (chrome) has held up well for the last 2 years. No complaints at all.
