I like the gray. For me the white would be too stark. BTW, I am in love with your kitchen! The black, the wood, the stainless...It's great! I think a light gray would be fantastic. A creamy white would be my next choice...The blue or rose would be my last choices with about anything else in the middle. ;-) I just think they would rob from your look, rather than add. Sorry, just one woman's opinion...

I really like what you have already!

Probably because your walls are already grey, I am thinking white and then do a grey darker than your walls or possibly more towards blue (but keep it grey blue) on the inside of the glass cabinets. A light grey would not be enough contrast with the walls and a darker grey wouldn't be enough separation from the black you already have. The interior color can echo your marble veining or add a little more color interest.

I don't see the pink in that room though.

Mark this thread -- it's one of the few where rhome and I have gone in opposite directions. ;-)

Although I do agree that even for just the interiors of your glass door cabinets, I wouldn't go too far with color. I like the idea of grey but with some separation from the wall color.

I was also noting that your trim is white. Do you want the hutch to look like a built-in? If so, white. Do you want it to look more like a piece of furniture brought in from an antique shop? Then you may not want it to match the trim --- but you need it to stand out from the walls. You might be able to do that with a pearly grey.

So how many paint swatches do you have now? Greys can drive you crazy -- so many undertones to deal with and have to look at them in different light too. Good luck! It's going to look great!

I would pick the shade of white that is in your marble countertop for the cabinets. Inside the cabinets I would do the grey color of the veins in your marble. This way those cabinets tie in together with the rest of your kitchen.

Hurrying combined with small photos and I may have given hasty advice. I saw black, wood, and thought of the stainless and didn't note the trim or the exact wall color. I would want the cabinets to be different than the wall color...In this case it'd have to be very light, but I still think it'd be softer than white and allow the trim to sharpen everything with its brightness. Wow, that sounds goofy, but I'm not sure how to express the thought and view I have in my mind.

I'm still afraid that white on the cabinets would switch the overall room to 'a black and white kitchen', and I don't like the idea of matching the trim. I want the trim to do as it does now...and just outline.

So I guess I'm not really changing my original comment, except to agree with Lascatx that if you choose gray, make it noticeably lighter than the walls...Doesn't have to be vastly different but enough so no one wonders if they're the same color. I could also see other light colors (a shade of cream, creamy yellow, light olive or sage), but I'm not a blue person, so never think of blues, and I am really not feeling that rose color, which is not a favorite of mine either. Maybe it's just the medium tones I don't like, because I think an icy pastel blue or light gray-blue may work with both the gray walls and the white trim.

The wedgewood blue and/or dusty, beige pinky that I was talking about were considerations of what color to paint the INTERIOR of the two narrow side cabinets , which will be fronted with a leaded glass panel and have glass interior shelves. I just thought that since I was having these custom made I should take advantage of the custom benefits and have the inside painted a different shade.

OK...I missed another detail! I really am getting old or something. I still vote against those colors...Even on the inside. ;-) I think it's easy to go overboard when we have the opportunity to do something special and want to take full advantage of it. I understand your thinking on that.

I do like the idea of a wood with some character -- you could make the counter a soapstone or dark stone. That wasn't one of the choices, but it would be handsome. I'll throw knotty cherry into the mix because I have it and it would look great with black and marble (it has a black glaze in the finish). If the cabinets are already built with paint grade wood, forget we said anything. LOL

You know, whatever you do, you might want to have the interiors of the glass cabinets done the same as the exterior. You can use an insert that you can remove to try color on the back of those interiors and it will be much easier to change if you don't like it or grow tired of it.

In terms of the color of the hutch/cabs... someone very recently posted pics of a completed kitchen that was the softest light gray... beautiful. I looked and looked, but for the life of me, can't find it. BUt.. in my search I did happen upon a post that referred to willow decor's gorgeous kitchen. Take a look at the paint color on her cabs. I am leaning toward a very light not quite white gray, similar to this.

so my colors in my soon to be ordered kitchen are very similar to yours. I will have black perimeter cabs with stainless counter, the island will be rift cut oak in natural with a marble top and tall narrow pantry cabs will be some sort of steel grey. maybe you would like to consider a wood tone species for the hutch area.

My kitchen is also a similar color scheme. It is an L shape with an 8ft island. My cabs are in production next week. My uppers are all glass inserts. I had the inside of them finished in black but plan on bringing pinky-purple tones also (via mixer, floors, dishes etc.) I vote for pink interiors for your glass cabs but I may be bias! I think a white hutch may be nice to keep things light. Do you find that your kitchen feels dark at all (like on depressing rainy days like today)?

My island will also be marble (either carrara or calcutta) as will my perimeter cabs. I must say zi am nervous about the marble. I am not sure if I am going to seal it or not. I have small kids and it seems a bit harsh. I may do a polsihed marble to avoid the chemicals but then have etching to deal with!

My cabinet run will have a seam in the marble which worries. Sometimes I think maybe a section of stainless or butcherblock may be a good idea but I live in an old victiorian and wonder if stainless would be a good fit or not.

Anyway, I am in love with your kitchen and cant't wait to see more pics. No matter what you choose it will be beautiful!!
