Thank you for this information, OJ. The CBC has some excellent programming.

Just came back to check this message again ... and found that it started on June 25 (and carried through till July 8). I hadn't noticed before, but June 25 is an important date in my past. Some time ago while visiting a business plaza in the city, I saw the words of that date written on a game store window, so went in there to check. They were not of Korean background, but carried the game, which has a Korean origin. The words are "Yook Ee Oh": "yook" is "six", "Ee" is "two" and "oh" is "five", so when put together, they are "6 - 25" which to Koreans are as familiar as "9-11" is to U.S. folks. It is the date on which the Korean War began, June 25, 1950. And it ended with a truce, in July, 1953 ... and there hasn't been a "peace" in place, yet! When I was in university, in 1950, the year in which the Korea War began, some left-leaning people said that it was the Republic of Korea (South Korea, or "ROK") that started it, not the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). Whatever "democratic" means, in that context. If there's anything that people who had deeply dedicated to a certain ideology, philosophy or theology can't stand, it's to have some people make a joke of their major viewpoint. When they claimed that South Korea started the war ... we laughingly said to them that, yes, South Korea started the war ... and in two days, their capital city was overrun by the army of the country that they'd invaded ... ... and they lost their military headquarters. Anybody who'd believe that ... would probably believe that the moon was made of green/cream cheese, if the people making the claim were earnest enough! The war was still going when I was appointed by my church (The United Church of Canada, union of Methodist, Congregationalist and about 70% of the Presbyterians, in 1925) to go there to carry on missionary work, and the truce was declared while I was on a ship on the Pacific en route there. Eighteen days out of sight of land on the Pacific, en route from Los Angeles to Manila gives one who hadn't seen an ocean until then an idea of how large this world is. The main task was to help something over 100,000 refugees get their lives started over. So I was quite interested in the date of this thread when I noticed it. ole joyfuelled

It's pretty well the same as the last post on the "procrastination" thread, about the cookies to the "old farts" (my translafion of "ROMEOs") club at the village church, then the good news about blood pressure from the homecare nurse when my catheter was changed, and of the car battery about which I've been concerned, being reported O.K. when in for the oil change. And not having my possessions, such as they are, maybe being at risk when I wasn't able to find a homeless/street person to share my warm house when, wind taken into account, the temperature was to be in the 30s below zero. This morning in church when they were asking for joys and concerns prior to prayer, I was about to put my hand up to offer thankfulness that no frozen bodies were found in our area following the recent nights of extreme cold ... when the leader finished asking. Lucille, Maybe a good idea to post what you have written, then go to seek other material, bringing it back to make an edit. You have an hour to make edits, I'm fairly sure. Son has told me (multiple times, reportedly) to do my composing on notepad, Word, or wherever, then bringing it to wherever you want to post it, all of a piece. ole joyful

I've fed myself for years, and solo son is here with me. They've planned a return of my visiting nurse who came about monthly to change catheters after my car died almost two years ago, I'd visited clinic for two or three years prior, I expect no ongoing need, as surgeon inserted a pipe through my prostate last fall and no catheters since, prior to the blood a couple of weeks ago. I knew how to change catheters, had done it once when a blockage, nurse not immediately available and lacked transport to hosp. urgent care. My prostate has long been large, about ten years ago when some guys were telling of their distaste for the doc putting finger up rearend to investigate, I laughed and asked, "You think you got problems - how'd you like to be your doc?"! They'd never thought about that! Sometimes if we can put ourselves into someone else's shoes for a while, it'll help us get some more neighborly view of life, and if more of us did it more often, it'd help build happier communities. Of 12 samples taken about then cancer found in 6 or 7 had 35 shots radiation, no chemo, managed without incident since, doc said he found no evidence of cancer when he put that pipe in last fall. When doc's happy - I'm happy. Prior to the surgery, when nurse called to instruct me, when she asked me to explain in own words what to happen, I said urethra yelling at prostate - "My job is to take urine to the outside world and you're squeezing so much that I can't do it - would you darn well stay in your own lane!". The nurse laughed, saying "That's the best one I've heard all day! I've gotta tell it to my friends!" I said, "Ma'am, you guys in health care have had huge pressures and stresses to deal with for over three years now and you've persisted and been there for us when we needed you, and if you find some stress relief in some of my humour, go for it!". Some lack of energy and stamina, but feeling well, next to no pain or difficulties, getting quite a lot of sleep. Was taking glucosamine sulfate to help with joints, I was off all my regular meds while in hosp. and now that I'm back on some discomfort in right shoulder improving. ole joyful
