My Daughter graduated college (pic heavy)

The party yesterday went really well... everyone seemed very impressed by the Fazolli's food that was catered. The forecasted rain held off till most of the guests had already left.

Here's my mom and dad with my DD after her graduation which was on Friday. My daughter graduated with a major in Parks, Recreation and Sports Administration. She already has a job in Omaha!

The pasta dishes... we had 10 pans total. There was also chips, salad and desserts.

Markers were in one of the painted jars so the guests could write or draw on the covered tables. I had asked for suggestions here on what to cover the tables with.. I ended up using thick white wrapping paper I bought at the Dollar Tree. Worked great!

Me and my DD (sorry about the sideways pic, but the computer bug I had screwed up my software and I don't know how else to rotate the pic) Does anybody know where the 'edit' button on Tinypic went? I used to be able to rotate pics there.

Those kids sure are wonderful. A few now live out of state, but when home to visit, always come by to check on the garden and see what new plants have been added off the list. The extra marigolds from the originals found homes in my daughter's apt back porch. Yellow and orange that my mom used with her tomatoes to keep the bugs from gettting them. My son, who lives in Kentucky, has some chinese forget me nots, malva zebrina, and a few others in pots on a patio garden. My sister and brother prefer to just buy from the nursery, but they do buy some of the plants that my mother grew. Linda, the funny story with those victorian ornaments is that I would never in a million years have had them in my yard. I always thought "it just isn't me", yet I have my own craft business that is mainly hand thread crochet victorian Xmas tree ornaments. I would put out things like the ducks, the bunnies, a cat, but nothing like those. In the spring of 2002, I took them all out of the cellar to put in the memorial garden and their wasn't really enough room for the one with the gazing ball, so she got moved to another spot. They grew on me over that summer and now I love them. Must be that I'm just getting old or something strange. Alberta, you could do what I have done in memory of my grandfather. I grew up with my grandparents on a summer veggie and flower farm. He would plant at least 100 tomato plants. Nothing including severe water bans would stop him from watering those toms of his. One summer, we had such a severe drought that all water usage outdoors was banned and you could be arrested for using any. He was jumping out of his skin over those tomatoes of his. So he rigged this elaborate siphoning system from the bathtub to hoses that went out the bathroom window and long enough to reach all the plants of his. Every time someone took a shower, and there where 7 of us, we had to plug the tub so water would collect in the tub. then when it was full, he would drain the water and water his tomato plants. He rigged another hose to the line from the portable dishwasher to a huge rain barrel and a syphon in there too. All the water from the dishwasher was used on those tomato plants as well. He didn't loose a plant and we had an abundance of tomatoes, but nothing else. So what I have done since I started gardening over 30 years ago is put an American flag in one of my pots that have my tomatoes in them. I love your decoration, DD!!!!!! It's so original! Here we don't celebrate our graduatesere; which is a little disappointing for them, because a party is always something encouraging. I think I will celebrate my son's graduation - in three years, lol - and will use many of your festive ideas! Thanks everyone, especially those of you who said I looked great! Hehe. He had a job lined up with a store chain but they bailed out on him at the last minute. His major was business administration and he is jobless now! He is moving back home until he finds a job, which is okay with me! Now that our kids are growing up and moving out I'm wishing they would come back, and he will for a while! I know it's hard on him but I'm happy!

Glenda, she is working as an events coordinator (parties and weddings). All but one of her friends who got Recreation majors already have jobs.. many of the internships turned into job offers. One is working at a FL resort, another is working with a sports team.. can't recall the rest. Resorts, amusement parks, city and state parks, camps, recreation for seniors in nursing homes, etc.... lots of different things one can do with this major!

He's an outdoorsman, hunting, fishing, camping, that's what he is leaning towards.

Glenda, he should look into forestry. As I recall, the state university in Ames, Iowa, had a good forestry program.

Congratulations! Your DD is pretty, and your parents look so young! Fazzoli's is a great idea for catering, I never thought of that. The food looks scrumptious.

Glenda, UW Steven's Point also has a great Forestry/Wildlife management degree.
But I know you don't want him way up in Wisconsin, and then there's the tough winters to contend with.

You have great genes in your family. You all look so young! Your daughter looks so young, fresh and full of hope. She has a great future ahead of her. I had no idea you could do so many things with that degree.

Your food looks wonderful--I tend to like the white sauce dishes more than the red and it looks like they were pretty popular at your party, too. It must've been a lot of fun--and I'd love to have something catered. Once, just once LOL!

When you come to Omaha to visit your daughter....call me...we can get together and have lunch.

Great pictures. Seems like a lot of women basketball players major in recreation. Brittany Griner, who is the star player at Baylor, is a recreation major also.

Alisande, she is 6 hours from us... so a little far for a day visit, but quite doable for a weekend trip.

Patti... we helped her move about a month ago.. had dinner at a buffet pizza place (expensive!) in CB and went to TJMaxx and a few other places. We were only in Omaha 2 nights so no extra time for a get together... but I did look around to see if any faces looked familiar. I remembered that you lived there. I'll let you know next time, okay?

Glenda, if he's interested in working for the Parks department or something to do with a camp... Parks, Recreation and Sports Administration is probably the field he'd want to go in.

Food looks wonderful. Congrats to your daughter on her graduation and getting a job. My granddaughter graduated two weeks ago and also has a job with Nickelodeon. . Lucky girls.
