Today I bought 3 of them for $.25 each. I will enjoy looking through them. They are big hard cover ones. The years are....

1987 Annual Recipes

Does anyone else have any Southern Living Living Cookbooks?

Just a complimentary copy the 2006 Annual.

SL is a great source of good recipes. You got quite a bargain!

I winter sowed all I had, and have never tried them before from seed. Only one yellow I had collected from my own plant, and just wanted to see if the seeds would germinate. I'm grateful for the other columbine thread where we were cautioned they may take a very long time so I won't get impatient and throw them out too soon, will have to water them once the tops come open, probably shouldn't let them dry out if it doesn't rain. Those lovely red ones (Swallowtail) were so different, not sure what red you're talking about, but they were only 10 seeds/pkt, and I passed them up, have been extravagant enough as it is. Now if I have good fortune, I will have several varieties of columbines and am not keen on them crossing, would welcome it for some. But you never know. I don't know how much of a tendency they have to cross or revert. One of my yellows, not the whole plant, just one part, had some red in it, every year, didn't care for it. If say my Nora Barlows cross with Blue Star or some odd kind I got, I would probably save seeds but don't know if they would stay true to form or not. I don't even know if they do cross if too different.

"I want to try and find Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking in used bookstores. The movie made her book popular again, and I know they are in print again. One of our local stores is selling the hardcover for $60." Just bought a brand new one today in Costco for $25. "I **might** buy the Pioneer Womans cookbook if I saw it. I wouldn't find it in my town though I know that." You can find a LOT of her recipes on her web site The Pioneer Woman. And you can buy the book from Amazon.

We buy books all the time. It's a hobby with us. We both have Kindles, so we buy e-books as well as 'real' books. For ebooks I often use Bookbub, which is great for exploring discounted new authors I wouldn't otherwise find. My categories are romance, history, sci-fi/fantasy, and mystery. Most are throwaways (deletions, IOW) but I've found almost a dozen new authors I'll be following in the future. DH just uses Amazon for his ebooks. He's got my password so I'm trusting him not go crazy with my acct [smile]. Barnes & Noble offered us a good deal on a Barclays Bank card. The points are redeemed automatically for B&N gift cards, plus we get an automatic 10% off the price, even on sale books. If we use the B&N credit card we get another 10% credit, applied to the monthly bill. But since we use that card for 90% of our purchases, we just accumulate a lot of gift cards. Periodically we hit the (last few) remaining stores and walk out with a bag or two crammed full of books for which we paid nothing. Last week we bought over $100 of books with gift cards and still had two left over, with another five coming to us in the next month, due to some big remodeling expenditures. Works out great; we pay the card off every month and don't have to pay interest, either. Of course, once B&N goes under (sad, but inevitable), we'll have to decide what kind of charge card to use next: points or cash? But we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

I have the annuals for 1982-1987 and The Ultimate Southern Living CookBook that I think is from 1999.

You got a great deal on the SL cookbooks. I have 1979 through 2001. I just ran out of room for any more. I love the pictures. I have the Master Index which you have to buy separately but worth the $$ if you have as many books as I do. Some of my older ones have been used so much they're pretty ratty looking. Even with every recipe in the world already on the internet, I still like to look through my SL books.

I have some annual books and also I purchased the Ultimate Southern Living Cookbook, which I absolutely love!

I have the 1980 edition of "Cooking Across the South" and I dearly love it! I use it frequently, although some of the recipes make Paula Dean look like a little 'ole Northern gal!

I have bought their annual cookbook every year since they started putting them out. I have 1979 through 2008. I also have a Master Index, but it is not current through my most recent volume. The funny thing is that I don't cook anymore, but I still love looking at the books. I have 2 daughters and 4 granddaughters. Hopefully one of them will enjoy using these books someday.

I have all of the Annual SL Cookbooks, but most Of them I purchased on Amazon, eBay or yard sales. I love them.

I think the best cook books are Jr. League cook books and church cook books. Our church published one a few years ago and it is wonderful and I know who the good cooks are!! Recipes that a group puts together are usually tried and true recipes and you can count on them being good.

Yes Vannie, those are the best cook books. Our church's cook book comes out this summer sometime and I am looking forward to it. I have a lot of those and so enjoy just reading them.

I have several.Also I have what is called they call"Calling All Cooks".Its published by Telephones Pioneers Of America(Alabama] folks that worked in the phone company placed their recipes in them.They are so so good.There is several put out,different colors each year.I have 5 of them.Not sure how many colors.They are thick but great recipes.Sorry I got off track and started talking about these,but thought some might want to look for these too.The yellow one is the Best!If anyone wants to you can type in the name I have above and see if you can find them.

I have been a cookbook collector for years. I guess it's my way of making up for not cooking. Like Vannie, I prefer the ones put out by Jr. Leagues, schools, churches, offices, and neighborhood organizations, charities, etc. I have an entire bookcase full of them. The only problem is finding which book has which recipe when you want it. I don't buy them nearly as often anymore. There is such a thing as running out of space and practicality is starting to take over as I'm getting older. I'm finally realizing that I probably never will take up cooking again. Still, I love reading through them.

Catlady, I have "Calling All Cooks Two". The color is red and also put out by the TPofA of Alabama in 1988.
