I can't believe you'd get rid of it ...I kept mine until it just plain died....And then I didn't want to.

I still wish I had one...if for nothing else than to get in it and run around the pool then turn and run into the the rushing water. It's such good exercise.

Yes, that's me, two kids. Alex got in the pool three times last year, that's it. He could care less about it now. Lauren is the only that loves it. I can't stay in it longer than 20 minutes before I start coughing from the chemicals. It's also too much hassle for me. I work long hours and don't really want to deal with the pool on my days off, especially for such little use it gets. I can and will take Lauren to a nearby town pool.

So, do you think $1500 is a good price?

Good luck! We tried to sell our 21 foot outdoor above ground pool, large deck, and no jaccuzzi. We had no takers, so we offered it for free on Craigslist. One guy came and took (stole) the deck, but never came back for the rest of the pool. Many people were interested, but for various reasons didn't take it. One guy had to get a variance from his town, didn't want to bother, one was a single Mom who decided it was "too big", etc, etc. After three weeks of offering it for free, we paid $250 to two guys to just take it down and away. I hope your pool ends up better than our experience!

Gee Kathy, I hope you don't have to just give it away. That'd be a shame. But I know where your coming from. It's hard when you work all the time, and don't get to enjoy it. And there's no one to help you take care of it.

It seems like a fair deal Kath....Its hard to say if people will pay it tho! I mean you know people, they don't look for fair deals, they look for a steal.
If your positive you want to get rid of it, I'd come down a little. But thats just me.

I don't think you'll get that much for it, but hope you don't have to end up just giving it away for free. The water will have to be drained and I am guessing the buyer will have to tear down the pool and deck and then get it to it's new location, then reassemble .... so lots and lots of work there. I'm not even sure a hot tub can be moved easily at all.

I think I'd keep the pool and deck, when the kids get a little older they will probably use it more. The work it takes to keep a pool running is the reason we don't have a pool anymore... they do sell the automatic cleaners that run along the bottom which would give you less work or maybe you could con one of your kids into cleaning it for a little $$?

Well, thanks for the input. I may ask $1000 and hope I get close to it. I know it's going to be alot of work. Someone at work was interested in the pool and maybe the deck. I won't sell one without the other, though. No sense in it. The person from work was going to come look at it today but the number she gave me was wrong. Weird.

We just bought an 18'...48" deep pool at a yardsale for 50 bucks....filter and everything but no deck. I hope you get what you want for it,but it's going to be a lot of work for someone.The one we bought was all taken down,rolled up and in boxes.We just had to throw it in the truck.

I would never pay that much for what you have, though it's nice looking. The reason is that you can get those new blow-up pools from Target, Costco and WalMart for $300. Good luck, Kath, what a pain. (((Kath)))

I hate to say, but you are way over-valuing the set up. Someone wanting to buy would have to spend hours and hours on the teardown and reassembly.

If they can afford that amount of money, or a bit more, they can get nearly the same set-up new.

I can tell you from experience of putting both kinds up...the blow up is much easier, that's true...but you only put up the big on once...
Like I said...ours lasted 15 years with not having to change the liner. It was just that our filter cracked and the pump died that we gave up.
And those darn cheap ones from Walmart don't interest a little older kid (my 8 and 9 year old grandkids like theirs)... they aren't as deep...at least I don't think. And many times they don't make it one year.

Personally I wouldn't pay a thousand for a used pool. But I'm cheap. I've seen a lot of them for half that.

And as far as cleaning....LOL..I fought for that job...That was my time alone without the whole neighborhood there. My kids Always had a bunch of friends...During the summer I think we had two or three camping out at our house everynight.

BUT....I was a stay at home mom, and I love having them there. They started bringing home friend in "72" and it didn't end until Jeff moved out in about "98"....LOL...I still miss all the hubbub.
I still see them on the streets and they still call me MOM.

Yeah...where are they and all the gifts on Mother's Day..LOL

Kathy...I sure hope you won't be dissapointed in what you can get for it. I hope you get enough to sod the ground and plant a beautiful flower garden...

Unfortunately, I think you're pricing it way too high, Kathleen. Around here, Watson's sells a new setup very similar to yours for $1800, which includes installation. In the dead of winter it goes for $1500.

I'd love to have a setup like that, I keep hoping that one of these years, we won't have anything planned for our tax refund and I'll be able to get one. *but then, I'm not the one who will have to clean it and mess with the chemicals.*

I still have the receipt the previous owner gave me for the pool and stuff that went with it, including set up and it was over $2900. That doesn't include the deck and hot tub. So, I didn't think all three items were that bad for $1000. I may be wrong, which is why I asked the question.

If I can't sell the pool and deck at least, I may set it up again next year, but not messing with it this year.

Give it all away...trust me, you'll be grateful to have someone who will take on the hassle of disassembling it and taking it off your hands. Honestly, I'd be surprised if you can sell it for more than $100 bucks. Or you'll be stuck with it and have to spend the time and energy breaking it down and hauling it away. Give it away and call it a day.

Have you checked Craigslist in your area to compare prices? I have seen ones that are only a couple of years old going for less than your price. That could depend on the area you live in and how much competion you have.

Here, I could get that same setup including the deck and hot-tub, for no money down, 100% financing, no payments for a year, and it would cost about $3000. I live in Central Texas, where it is hot as blazes for at least 5 months of the year.

Why, at those prices, would I buy a used pool system I have to move and install myself?

It doesn't matter that the original owner paid $2900 for it. It is now USED! It is like a new car - the minute you drive it off the lot, it loses 10% of it's value.

Pools are even worse, because the vinyl has a very limited lifetime - usually 10 years, but often less. I don't know how old that particular pool is, but I'd say that 25% of it's original value would be more than generous.

Is Lauren upset? Perhaps teach her to care for the pool. I would have thought she is old enough.

I'm wondering if you have a hole in the ground. Doesn't that type of pool go partially in the ground?

Bestlawn she does help sometimes, but most of the time I have to do it all. Oh, and no she's not upset. I don't think it's much underground, a few inches maybe.

Kath, when you post a picture of it to sell, clean it up some first. Pump the water out.

Best would be a shot of it, from in the summer, when the kids were playing in it.

I think, $1,000.00 to $1,500.00 sounds fine, for all three. Make sure and put the BEST picture in the ad you have of all.

But, if someone wants to buy only part of it, let it go that way. If you don't sell the rest, at least you get some money.

Listing on craigslist would be good, IMHO!

I have no idea what you could sell it for.,but if it were me,i'd keep the deck,refurbish it a little and sit out there and enjoy that on my day off.If the previous owners bought it,then you really aren't out any money,except for what you've spent on upkeep.I'd then either sell the pool or even give it away,just to get it out of my yard.Then i'd plant lots of flowers and sit on my deck and enjoy the birds and blooms.JMO

Have you considered carefully taking apart the deck and building a new deck patio or large porch with the lumber? There's enough there for a good sized patio. Lumber is expensive and it looks to be in good condition and nicely weathered, and since it's sitting in your back yard, it's also free. That's enough wood to build a different project, like a potting shed or playhouse, etc. I'm building a fence with wooden fence boards that were thrown away. It's a dirty job to tear wooden boards apart, sand them (if needed) and make them into something else, but well worth the work. It may be tough to find someone who would pay you for wood, then tear it all apart and haul it.

Look up the same pools on Ebay. Even if you don't sell it there, you can get a price idea. The pool and accessories (and deck) can be listed and sold as a pick up only, and as a diy removal. We had our in ground pool removed last November (Yay!!) and sold the heater on Ebay. You'll get whatever it's worth there. However you decide to sell it, it will probably sell for more during swimming season. Good luck. Linda

I think it's probably worth more to YOU than anyone would be willing to PAY for it. I'm with the ones who say you'd be lucky to get fifty or a hundred bucks for it. Hope I'm wrong....if you sell it, let us know what ya get!!!

Don't give it away. Set a price for all of it, and add Or Best Offer. That way they'll know you'll negotiate. Or if you sell it seperate, someone may want the lumber from the deck for another project.

All those deck screws to be taken apart or, worse yet, nails for some old weathered deck. I don't think so. You might get a buyer for the pool but use the deck for something else or reuse the lumber yourself.

A hot tub that doesn't work isn't worth anything.

Maybe you could donate the stuff and take the deduction.

I hope for your sake that it is different in your part of the world, but around here, you would likely have to pay someone to remove the deck and the non functioning hot tub.

Unfortunately I think Gardenspice is right.
A non functioning hot tub is not worth repairing, I speak from experience ! (A new cover is around $400, and may last a few years at most) We took our above ground pool to the dump and had the hot tub hauled off.
The deck is a good value for the house if you decide to resell. Our realtor said that most people don't want to mess with pools and spas , but all want decks. Kathy

The problem with dismantling the pool and hot tub is that you're left with a dack that's an eyesore. Even if you tell potential buyers (when/if you're selling) that it's a benefit, all most are going to see is a headache. It also takes up valuable back yard real estate.
I still say if you can get rid of the whole shebang without it costing you $$$, be happy.
