Emergency Run to the hospital...

Some of the guys from church came out to help cut down some large branches that were hanging over the roof.

Then they got carried away and decided to cut down one of our pines that is dieing..(borer weavel)

Ron...was using the chain saw and cut his thigh. Looks to be about 6 inches across and maybe a couple inches deep...I opened right up.

We cut his pant leg off and pressed towels on it carried him to the car and off they went.

I called his wife...She is meeting them there.

This is the same guy who came into contact with the high wires and took a massive dose of electricity last year.

What a mess.

Ouch. That sounds awful. I'm saying a prayer for Ron right now.

julianna- If you move it now, you do run some risk of damaging the plant or setting it back. You don't have to move it...you just need to maintain it. I have three, large running bamboo planted next to my vegetable garden, and all I do is chop off any runners that go where they're not supposed to and pull them out of the ground. I suggest you do this now and then get in the habit of doing it in the fall each year. It's not something you need to continuously do. Once a year is usually enough. If you really want to move it, you should wait until it goes semi-dormant in late fall to early spring.

They haven't changed code here concerning lag bolting into a facia but have added that any deck higher than x feet must have posts supporting below a double ledger at each end. The number of posts dependent on the width of the deck.

I am happy to report that the different fabric used in the border is barely - just barely - dedectable only if you know another fabric was used in a few places. And I dare that rider on the galloping horse speeding by my quilt to pick it out! Now, if I can just remember this trick next time I run out of the binding fabric..... Teresa

He's a bit of a daredevil it seems.. I hope the gash can easily be stitched up and his recovery is quick.

He sounds like the kind that needs at least nine lives!

I hope it's fixable and he is able to heal quickly. I'm sure you feel extra bad when it happens at your place, so here is a hug for you! (((Patti)))

I hope he makes a quick recovery. They may have to take him to surgery depending on how deep it is and if a tendon or artery was cut. When I worked in the ER, we saw lots of chainsaw cuts. The guys always said "My wife is going to kill me". When the wives arrived they were so relieved, they weren't even mad.

Oh ouch! What miserable thing to happen to your volunteer worker. Likely, some muscle was cut so it will be more than a simple job of closing the skin with with row of stitches. He's in for a lengthy healing period.

I think that he's accident prone, but I wish him a good recovery.

Don't be surprised if the hospital bills your home owner's insurance.

I'm afraid if chainsaws too. Give us an update on how he is. Today I used the hedge trimmers and I was paranoid about cutting myself or slicing the extention cord. Hope he is OK.

Good luck to him! My dad has a scar on his knee/leg from a chainsaw. AND my mom has a scar the length of her middle finger where the chainsaw kicked back when my brother was cutting a limb or something- I have always been amazed that she did not lose her finger!

Needless to say, I don't use anything larger than a jigsaw!

Those things terrify me.

And like Jemdandy, I'm worried that you (or your homeowner's) is going to end up being financially responsible for the bill. A lot of health insurance plans just don't pay when the injury is the result of an accident where someone else can be held at fault.

You might want to have a chat with your agent, just to see what your responsibilities migh be in this case. Sorry to mention that, but better to be prepared than not. Good luck to you both.

Dean was using ours the other day, and I realized just how hazardous they can really be!!!
