Our 1996 Dodge truck

gave us a "present" the other day! LOL

We rode around and around in the subdivision behind us until it turned over 200,000. Told Twinkie I bet the neighbors thought we were just casing the joint! LOL

What about your vehicles? Have any high mileage ones?

Yes, our '90 Honda is about to turn 200,000 also. Still going strong, but looks crappy, lol.

LOL! Yep, our's too, but we still love her. The paint is coming off all around the hood and around the top of the cab and the back bumper is hanging a little lower than it should because of it getting hit in the back a few months ago.

We just cross our fingers that the transmission keeps pulling.

A Dakota even with the V6 will pull 1,500 lbs. The towing capacity for the V6 is 3,500 pounds including the weight of the trailer. The 4.7 V8 is 5,000 pounds. But are you going to pull the trailer with a ball in the bumpber hole? You CAN do it but I wouldn't do it for a long distance or up many hills. And the trailer will be at an awkward and possibly dangerous angle considering the height of the bumpber. And you'll need a wiring connector for the electrics. A "flat 4" wiring connector is fine for a lightweight trailer.

Well if it was really only that easy. I repaired a Jeep Cherokee that had bounced around between 5 shops/techs. The problem surfaced alledgedly right after a major transmission replacement. The symptom was a surging/high idle speed, missfire/cutout when driving. The AC was inoperative, the clutch would not engage. The customer had already tried adding refrigerant with sealer himself, without gages. Plus the 4WD display was blank. The soultion was the computer had failed, but before the computer could be replaced, every possible reason that something on the car could be causing the computers microprocessor to continually reset had to be explored, and proven to NOT exist. Plus I also had to be sure that something else on the data bus on the car was not causing the reset to occur. There are no training manuals anywhere, nor is there service information/repair manuals written at this level. Guys like me are totally on our own with this stuff, and we often spend two times as much time studying the system at home to make each diagnostic move faster, and in analyzing the results to make sure we haven't overlooked something which would result in a customer potentially buying a part they do not need. I had well over eight hours time in this car, and ultimately billed three. The result had everything working, and I did notice some belt squeal, it was a newer, and properly tightened (within tension specs) serpentine belt. Now do you think this guy appreciated what I did? I did not sell any unneeded parts or service and I even cut him a significant break on the real amount of time required to do that. For my trouble I can tell you that I have 80% of the fuel injection wiring diagram memorized for a 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee. That's how close I had to study this system to be positive I was making the correct call. He went out to the Jeep after paying his bill, five minutes later he came back in and wanted me to go outside and hear something. He was concerned about the belt "chirping" when the AC was turned on. He was complaining that it did not do it before, well of course it didn't, the AC had not worked in the month and a half they had been fighting this. I told him shut the engine off, and went inside and got my laptop, and my belt tension gage. I showed him the spec, then I measured the tension on the belt and showed him it was in spec. The I showed him how the belt that was on the Jeep was one of the discount aftermarket replacement ones, that does not actually fit the pulleys correctly. He still insisted that I do something, and at that point I said fine, I'll take it to the maximum tension allowed on the spec, for a fee. At that point he balked, and said it's not adjustable, it has a spring tensioner, which I really got a laugh out of, because I asked him to show it to me. Then I showed him how the belt adjusted with the idler that is just below and inside of the power steering pump. I then asked him, who put this belt on? He said it was another shop he had dealt with recently, and I asked him why not go back to them and have them deal with it? His reply? Because he didn't pay them for it. I didn't press him for details at this point, but one way or another he managed to coerce them into doing it for free, or flat out managed to rip them off somehow. In the end, he paid me to adjust the belt. I refused to touch the rest of the AC system at all, because the sealers that he added have the potential of damaging my AC recovery/recharge equipment, and I'm not ready to have to spend another $4,000 on a new one. I also told him to the best that I could be sure, the transmission shop had nothing to do with the failure of the computer. Three days later the transmission shop involved called me up. He had not seen this guy and was glad that I had straightened his Jeep out. He was having trouble with a Ford tranny he had rebuilt and needed me to help him figure out what was wrong. He had one dissapointing thing to say. No matter what the outcome was, this guy with the Jeep would bad mouth me about fixing his car. It's just the way the guy is..........

I stopped at my mechanic today and he said the springs aren't the problem, it's just too light in the rear. I have the extended cab, but I also have the full length bed with nothing in it. He said before I try the sandbags, bring the tire pressure down to 25. If that doesn't work, try the sandbags. I live in Florida, so snow and ice aren't the problem, but those sudden showers are. My Camaro Z28 had more traction in the snow than this truck does in a drizzle!lol Also, it's legal here to put people in the back of a pickup, so I think the sandbags will be ok, but I won't try the cement blocks. I looked up reviews on this model and there's a lot of people that say it's a bad fishtailer in the rain. Plus, it's a "girl" truck! I keep the bed clean, no toolbox or junk in it to weigh it down!lol I bought it because the height of the seats is great for getting in and out of with my bad back. Also great for plant shopping. Gary, the Dodge Durango is the Dakota with a cover to it, so you know what I mean. It has good Cooper tires on it and I read of one guy who tried 3 different brands and it still fishtailed. i have a 2k dakota and am looking for wheels too. they have an odd bolt pattern. 6x4.5". very rare. i think daks/durangos have almost the same wheel styles. not real pretty. i found a nice set of polished alloys at a swap meet this summer. $275/4 but i passed. i would like 16" wheels if i can find them. what tires did you get? i probably will get BFG A/T, 31-10.5-15. they are fairly cheap and have good snow traction.

DH's 2002 Dodge Dakota truck is just about ready to turn 200,000. Hope it lasts for another year.

Nearly 250,000 on an 01 dodge ton pickup.
It stutters a little bit when it's cold and the glow plugs take forever to go off. It's now officially Custer's ranch truck.

The 1996 buick I inherited from my mother has nearly 200,00 miles on it.

What can I say?
We run 'em til they quit then we keep them around for parts. A vehicle becomes one of 'us'.

Another Dodge here... seeing a pattern? '94 Dodge Grand Caravan SE shows 190,000, but, it only registers .9 miles for a full mile. So, if it's been that way all its life, it's well over 200,000. I assume it's just sometime oversized tires were put on, but it's been this way in the 4-5 years I've had it and IIRC it was 142k on it then so just since I got it would add 5000 miles and obviously it's been longer so I figure old "Vanna" is at least 200k but as long as she's happy and keeping me happy, who cares if she's high mileage? Starts every time, purrs like a contented kitten, front end is tight, tranny replaced along with a BUNCH of other stuff! Haven't been able to sell it, so she's gonna stay around here for a while. Like most old elderly ladies, she's sagging in spots and DEFINITELY got her quirks but still a comfortable vehicle to drive and works great for hauling everything for work. She still looks darn good to me for her age. And still goes about 3000+ miles on a quart of oil and doesn't drip on the driveway.

We usually keep or vehicles "until the wheels fall off." Except about a year ago, my DS & DDIL bought me a LOADED '02 F150 (with 72K miles) to replace my '98 Silverado (with only 123K miles.) Soooooo, I called my brother in NE OH and told him if he wanted it, to come & get it. He flew to Houston, stayed overnight, and drove it back. He LOVES it!

My 98 Explorer has about 192k, my DH's 95 Dodge about that amount also.

I still occasionally drive my 1996 Astro that has over 200,000 miles. It's been a great van !

I traded my '92 Jeep Cherokee last wummer when it hit 193,000 miles. It was running good, but the body had began to fail.

There's a man in my neighborhood who owns a 1946 Dodge Rambler with 400,000 miles. He keeps it garaged. I read about him in the newspaper a while ago. His secret is regular oil changes.

Gosh, I only have 57,000 miles on my vehicle and it is a 03. I will have to drive it around 8 more years to hit 200,000. I keep it in the garage. Looks like new. Honey of a vehicle.. I think I will keep it...

Do you remember when, many years ago, Dodge cars had the name "D-o-d-g-e" printed into the brake light ... so that, when the driver braked, a driver following received the instruction that s/he'd better "Dodge"?!

I had a littl red 1990 Dodge "Colt", built by Mitsubishi, 1.5 litre, with standard tranny, that I bought in 1997, had about 330,000 km. (205,000 mi.) on it when the mechanic told me about 2005 that I should scrap it.

The '88 Mazda, 1.6 litre, standard tranny that I bought about a year and a half ago, has over 226,000 km. (141,000 mi.) on it, is going strong. When I was charged with running a red light (but I think that I had a green and the driver that hit me was in the fourth lane over from when he entered the intersection) and had a bash in the rear wheel behind the driver so bad that the wheel tracked badly, then, thinking that the car had pretty well reached the age of majority in any jurisdiction, it should have some time to enjoy its life as an adult ... I fixed the car ... at my expense, since the insurance company wouldn't pay, as the accident was judged to be my fault. That was more or less my contribution to helping reduce pollution, global warming, etc. as it takes a lot of energy and produces a lot of exhaust to dig the ore, etc. to build, say 20% of a new car to replace it.

I've got a chrysler Cirrus with about 160K - I bought a Honda in 2003, thinking the Chrysler would die out from all the commuting I would be putting on it. If I have continued driving it myself, (if it continued to run), it probably would have more than 200K. I have one thing to say - the Honda motor will probably be running when the rest of it falls off. The Chrysler is still running - shimmeeing and all, but it looks like a new car! The Honda has dull paint, worn out carpet and seats and trim that is falling off/apart. No trouble with a shimmee though - LOL. A friend had a foreign car and everyting but the motor has been replaced - hmmmm
