Any dodge wheel experts out there?

Looking to buy extra wheels for snow tires for our '98 dodge durango. Truck junk yard in next town has a set that appears to be from a '00 or '01. They say they'll fit mine, but these guys have been wrong in the past so I don't trust what they say. The wheels in question are 15" as are mine, and the bolt pattern is correct. That still doesn't mean they'll clear the brake caliper or some other thing on my truck. Tomorrow I was going to go buy them, beat feet for home and verify they fit. IF they did, I'd beat feet for the tire store in my town and buy some tires. If not, I'd take them back. There's got to be someone somewhere than can tell me for sure if they'll work or not so I don't have to do all the goofing around to confirm.

Got a lunch engagement tomorrow noon. The following day everything is closed. The day after that is Christmas eve so everyone will close early...and I have an appointment at the alignment shop for 1 that day. I replaced the upper ball joints and wheel bearings this week and want to make sure the suspension geometry didn't change due to my shade tree tinkering. Everything will be closed Christmas of coarse. Heading over the mountains on Friday which is why I want the new tires now. Don't want to play the chains on, chains off, chains on again game. Getting to old for that cr*p. Feeling a little crowded for time.

Anyone know for sure if these fit or can you direct me to a site that can tell me?

gary jump onto The Tire Rack, and see what wheels they sell for your vehicle, and what other vehicles those same wheels sell for. That's as close as I can get you.

A couple of guys on a dodge forum say they'll fit as long as they're not from a 2003. Guess that's good enough to warrant going after them.

Think I'll call the tire store first and see if they happen to have something laying around that will do. Probably not, but worth the phone call to see before running around.

I stopped at my mechanic today and he said the springs aren't the problem, it's just too light in the rear. I have the extended cab, but I also have the full length bed with nothing in it. He said before I try the sandbags, bring the tire pressure down to 25. If that doesn't work, try the sandbags. I live in Florida, so snow and ice aren't the problem, but those sudden showers are. My Camaro Z28 had more traction in the snow than this truck does in a drizzle!lol Also, it's legal here to put people in the back of a pickup, so I think the sandbags will be ok, but I won't try the cement blocks. I looked up reviews on this model and there's a lot of people that say it's a bad fishtailer in the rain. Plus, it's a "girl" truck! I keep the bed clean, no toolbox or junk in it to weigh it down!lol I bought it because the height of the seats is great for getting in and out of with my bad back. Also great for plant shopping. Gary, the Dodge Durango is the Dakota with a cover to it, so you know what I mean. It has good Cooper tires on it and I read of one guy who tried 3 different brands and it still fishtailed. Hmmmmm..... You asked if the "clutches" were adjustable, they are not. Now most transmissions that use bands, can have adjustments for the bands, and they can indeed be external and should be checked during a transmission service. BUT, once the transmission is already slipping, its too late for an adjustment to fix that. Besides, a band problem will make the transmission slip in a specific gear when its needed to be applied, it is not used with any of the others. Since you didn't specify that the problem is occurring in a single gear range such as " it only slips in second gear" you did not appear to be asking about band adjustments. Maybe some of the others that read this site will tell you who has the knowledge and experience to answer your transmission questions. If so maybe that person will respond.....

Agreed^. And the granddaddy of all idiocy in action? Well, that would be the TV program Ax Men. No self-respecting logger would want to be within a mile of any of those jerks. Plus, all those "History" or Nat Geo shows seem hell-bent on displaying a certain callousness towards whatever resource is being extracted. The dopes trying to "prospect" for valuable gems and minerals, letting whole hillsides slide down in the process, it goes on and on, and is being done, IMO, purposely, to indoctrinate a new generation to rape and pillage. Any Cub Cadet owners out there? Advice needed.

I am not the expert on the cub cadet. Cub cadet is made by MTD - the same company that makes troybilt, craftsman and other brands. Some of the cubs are heavier duty, but all the cub tractor styles are designed for home owners. Since you want to tow carts and push snow, your best bet is to look at the largest models. The lighter models just are not intended for snow and towing. Naturally, the largest model is the most expensive. In other brands, I would avoid Troybilt and craftsman. If you look for used, the older Sears craftsman were made by another company and some were quite heavy and could easily handle the work you described. The Husvarna makes some heavier models along with John Deere, but the same information applies. Choose the heavier models with the larger wheels and tires. Look at the rear axle and avoid anything with the plastic rear axle - even for light duty. In my opinion, you should avoid the models witht the Chinese EFI engine. Dealers probably do not have the technical equipment to figure out problems. The home improvement stores probably have a better return policy, but are not likely to carry the heavier models. In your search, look for a Lawn mower shop that carries the brands you are interested in. Most of these are staffed with more knowledgeable sales people. Ask about their service policies and pick up abilities.

Wheels made for vehicles with drum-and-shoe brakes on all wheels may interfere with disk calipers. Thus wheels from older vehicles (before disk brakes) may interfere and you may encounter some of these at a salvage yard.

Got them. As soon as I looked at them from the back I could tell there would be no clearance issues. Slapped one on the front to make sure before heading to the tire store. $660 total later, I'm good to go.

i have a 2k dakota and am looking for wheels too. they have an odd bolt pattern. 6x4.5". very rare. i think daks/durangos have almost the same wheel styles. not real pretty. i found a nice set of polished alloys at a swap meet this summer. $275/4 but i passed. i would like 16" wheels if i can find them. what tires did you get? i probably will get BFG A/T, 31-10.5-15. they are fairly cheap and have good snow traction.

I got Signet Wintertrax 235/75-15 from Les Schwab. I believe it is an off brand name for a Cooper tire.
