We had a native plant garden, with lots of birds, butterflies, a nice vegetable garden. We invited the nearby pre-school center to bring the little ones to look, sniff, pick lettuce and learn a bit about nature. Since we had bird feeders, we had bird feathers. A Texas Parks and Wildlife person told us that we couldn't let the children pick up the feathers without getting a license! Having a wild bird's nest or feathers in your possession is a crime, even if they are just molt feathers laying around the yard.

In the case of the lady in the story, Though told by wildlife rehabilitators that it would certainly die, the bird survived.

Should not the people at that Rehab center have told her about the law?

The subject on the talk radio show this afternoon was about selling alcohol to minors which brought up a sore spot with me. In Minnesota, it's not illegal for a 10 year old to buy cigarettes. It's illegal to *sell* to a minor, but perfectly legal for a minor to buy, or attempt to buy which burns me up. Cashiers are expected to patrol people buying but can't do a thing when a minor tries to buy. That's not right. Same thing with alcohol. Not illegal to buy, just to sell. Sounds backward and repressive to me.

I defi9nitely recall when I was in high school (1966-1970) mt mother would drive me to the hearest drug store, hand me some cash and have me buy a carton of Old Golds for her. No one ever questioned me or refused to sell to me. I definitely did not look 19 (the legal age to buy cigarettes in my state).

Good point Jannie. I remember parents giving a note to the kids to buy cigarettes for them.

Figures the bird story is from PA. The PA game commission people are nuts.

Cynic has it right, about selling to...and buying by..minors. We has a convenient store in Montana. Our night employee carded a guy (who looked of age),who was buying beer. Turns out the ID was fake. We got shut down from selling any alcohol products for 4 days. NOTHING happened t the kid who was 19. Certainly old enough to know better.
The law that drives me up a wall is about guns, and people who can buy a gun (of any kind) at weekend gun shows so they don't have to have the mandatory back ground check. Any nut can buy a weapon. JMO (which I have a right to have) Dottie

Salgal, I understand your rant! Went through the same thing a few years ago. I have a pond in my backyard. For years, Mallard ducks would come and go and swim in the pond, lay their eggs on the shore, etc. I also had chickens at the time and would feed the chickens scratch corn. What ever was left, the (wild) Mallards would eat it. I never fed the Mallards outright. I got a visit from the Florida Wildlife Commission and was wanting to fine me because the wild mallards were residing on my property! I actually laughed in his face and told him to sit here for a few days and watch the comings and going of these wild mallards and I bet there wouldn't be a darn thing he could do about them. He left and I never got another visit again.
