Our 6 year old DGS's B-day gift (2 pics)

I had a lot of fun with this. I don't remember who to give credit to, but it was someone on the KT.

Our youngest DGS is turning 6 so I stuffed all this "Stuff" into this bottle. I decided to take it to him rather than mailing it. Their are too many dollars visable for the mail. I folded some of the dollars into little shirts.

It is amazing to think Aaron is 6 already!!! But then Zachary is also...so I shouldn't be surprised! lol Time sure flies!

jane...I missed you...must have posted at same time. Thank you...the "stems" (glassware) got broke in a moving process yrs ago & stuck up the tipsy-top kitchen cupboards ...I was not careful enough...ugh! ...and didn't have the appreciation for them as I do now! A few yrs back I got so excited cause while browsing an antique store on lunch break from work (with friends) I spotted the same stems ...or so I thought & I bought them because they had the same star on etched in the bottoms...so here are the 2 diff patterns I have...they weren't the same "stems!" Ughhh...so now I don't know the ID of either one: Here's the ones from my Mom (I think): Tried to take evening pic of table last night: Does anyone know about these "stems?" I do have an elegant glassware book ...still looking for ID. Thanks! Jeanne S. ...thanks, nana, for your comments, too! Appreciated!

I'd suggest having it at home also. Once you get started on these toddler parties, you end up being invited to every one and you have to buy a present too. It gets expensive very quickly. Could you possibly temporarily remove furniture from maybe the living room, dining room or child's bedroom to make more room? I think an indoor camping theme might be fun (without the sleepover). You could make tents out of sheets and blankets and have the kids play in there. Any other theme you might have going, like bugs or Elmo could be worked into it too. You could have hot chocolate and other appropriate foods. Fake foliage and stuffed animals could be used to dress up the area. I'm suggesting this because someone gave my two boys a play tent for Christmas and they love it. They'll take toys in there sometimes and play instead of running around the house. Have fun with whatever you do.

if u don't want to go the book route, how about a savings bond?? u pay $25 and in 15-20 (i forget which) years its worth $50., i know its doesn't sound like a lot but we did that for our kids since birth. for my oldest it paid half of her college bill in junior year. had the whole family on board and everyone did it when they were too little realize they really didn't "get" anything.. everyone always got them a little something to go with it, so when they we knew they should get presents, they had something to open.. the amounts go as high as $500 i think. did it for every occasion, it really adds up!!! $500 bond, $1,000 in allotted time plus interest if u hold onto them past the mature date....

Many things are considered deer-resistant until they're hungry enough. I'd say the guaranteed ones would be the thorny plants (likely why your holly was fine, if it was an Ilex opaca) and plants with scented leaves--Salvias, Lavender, Rosemary. I have a Caryopteris "Dark Knight" in clay soil and it's doing amazingly well, has scented leaves, and you can control how big you let it get by how much you prune in the spring. Cut it back to 12 or 18" if you want a smaller shrub or just give it a trim if you want something big and blowsy. I have found that I need to stake them if I want them big--they tend to splay out in some of the brutal storms we get so my plan is to trim them further back this year to keep them a bit more "tight."

I have a 6 year old neighbor's birthday coming up, I think I might do this.

How do you get the stuff out? I've seen this done before but the liter bottle was sliced clear through and once the contents were added a label was wrapped around the bottle hiding the seam.

See where the lable is, there is a 3 sided opening under that. It opens like a door. Just cut the 3 sides with an exacto knife. Flip it back and put the stuff in.

I put a strip of packing tape over it then taped the lable over that. You can't see the slits until the lable is removed.

Since he is 6, I really wanted to put something to embarrass him a bit, like a pair of underwear. I settled for sox. I put in small toys and dollars and change, and some candy.

The person who introduced this on here, sent it in the mail, without wrapping it (just the lable.)

Oh, okay. Thanks Judy for the explanation. Now I just have to figure out what to put in the bottle I'm going to make. It's for a 6 year old girl.

Jenni mailed the Princess one for Halloween. Maddie LOVED it! I thought it was hilarious when I went to the mail box that day it came and saw it sticking out!!
Jodi you can fit ALOT in those bottles believe me! LOL I can't remember what all Jenni put in there, stickers, pencils, candy, shredded fill...how about hair things, colors and maybe a small coloring book? anything soft I'd think could go in.
