Easytouch Wireless controller issues

My wireless controller for my new pool quit in the first week of use. The pool builder gives me a new controller and the firmware must be newer because the screen looks somewhat different. For example the first line item is "F.Circuit" which I have no idea what it controls. "F. Circuit" is no where in the manual. Also now when I go to Intelliflo under setting it shows "Pump 1" and "Pump 2". When I try to select each the controller displays communication error. I no longer can control my pump from wireless controller. Anyone have any ideas? Could this new firmware be incompatible with the firmware for the outside unit? I tried calling Pentair technical service and they had no clue. The firmware version for the wireless is 2.040 and 1.060 for the outside unit.

welcome to the Pentair ClusterF. You've got a new remote controller with an old easytouch unit. You need a >2.0 board on your ET in order to upgrade to the new firmware. The 2.040 just came out a couple weeks ago. I've been dissapointed with Pentair's lack of being on top of all of this considering what we are paying for the equipment.

Pentair has been upgrading their control system features at a break neck pace and you say they are not "being on top of all of this"?

I can understand that you are frustrated by the change but this is the price you sometimes have to pay for progress.
For some reason, people in the pool industry expect free upgrades with 100% backwards compatibility. I have never seen such a phenomenon elsewhere...If you are not careful, Pentair may stop giving out all of this great new firmware with all the new features and be like Jandy and make you buy it for $500 or more! I don't want that! I make a handsome profit upgrading my clients on a regular basis.

During upgrade cycles, there are bound to be people caught in situations such as jmcl. I am sure Pentair will take care of him.

Bob, Firt what are you wanting to control with the controller? If it is just lights and a waterfeature, you could put a 4button spa side near the patio to turn those on and off, and could wire it to the cable you already ran. You also have a Quick touch remote, which is a cheaper 4 button wireless, with lower range. Now you would want to mount the antenna near the house, and use the cat5 to power the antenna. (you could do that same thing for the other wireless controller as well.) If you have the ablility to get the cat5 from the equipment to the house and into a wall then that is usually the best bet. As far as the cable you could use each pair as a single cable, so you would get 4 wires out of one cat 5. We have done it before and worked like a charm. Wireless generally would not have a problem at that distance if you had the antenna mounted high enough. Problem is those controllers are battery operated and when the batteries get weak so does the signal.

geo Here is the history on the EasyTouch revisions. I know when you flash an older IntelliTouch board to accomodate the IntelliFlo, you also need to flash the indoor or mobi controller so I assume you ET is the same. The new revision will not work on the original version as stated below with the 5/08 date. First, I assume you dont have a spa. If not then your two actuators are currently plugged into the "suction" and "return" plugs on the board. You want to plug them into "A" and "B" Then go into "settings" and set names for each. Unless you already have names assigned that you want to use for each. If not then you will name them on the feature cir screen, or if you have unused main cir then you can put them there. Then go into "valves" and assign "A" matching name, and assign "B" matching name. Then you can set flow assignments to each if that is what you want to do. Hope all that makes sense. If there is something specific you are trying to achieve and this doesnt make sense then let us know what that specific thing is and I can walk you through it. If not ask more questions. OT, but does anyone else feel like they are being given the bird when they look at the Pentair antenna. Maybe I am just paranoid because of the way I drive:)

Thanks, repair guy. Given the additional indoor controller cost, battery costs and possible interferance issues, I'll probably go with the hardwired system. The manual says to use a 4-wire, 22g UL for hardwire unit, but couldn't find it at the local hardware store. I did see a 4-wire, 18g sprinkler cable I was planning on using as a substitute. Question on the Easytouch battery for time/ date. Is the battery there for power outage backup to save programming? Does it draw low voltage power from another source, too?

The blame should be directed towards the builder if he was the one who installed incompatible equipment. Blaming pentair for this is like blaming ford when your mechanic installs the wrong oil pump.

as for tech service not knowing, you spoke to the wrong person. Never take "i don't know" as an answer, someone will know or can find out. I know this because I work there.

I'll find out what's the deal with this situation monday morning and let you know. I know that it works the other way, but have never tested it this way.

Cadillac, any help would be appreciated. The technaical support person that took my phone call said an expert techanical support person will call me in 48 hours. The builder is also going to talk with Pentair on Monday.

Ahh, you spoke with the "tier 1" group first. That explains the lack of knowledge. Your case has been assigned to our top automation tech. He's willing to help so be nice.

Anyone can now upgrade their firmware on pentair systems as the firmwares are available for download on the website. However, there is a "special" programmer for this that is not free. Part number is 520957.

Topfifty, keep on using those Hayward systems. I bet within 2 years you are using another brand.

It's going to be a tough 2 years in the pool industry and only the large will survive...

I wouldn't worry too much about about Hayward. Jandy and Speck, on the other hand, and any other "little guys" may have though.
