Sydney is so lucky to have Brian!!!

Since her dad all but told her he was not helping her do anything with her car....(even trying to find a place maybe in muskogee or tulsa to get it fixed (the windows) Brian called some place in Tulsa this morning and she has a appt. tomorrow to get 2 new windows...YEAH! She will no longer be dependent on others to haul her around (which she hated)...she has the money to fix them (her dad said he would pay but he has not offered again) so she said she will just take it out of her savings....I just give such a great big thanks to Brian for being such a great dad to her and Tanner and of course Dylan! They are 3 blessed kids!! And I am a blessed wife and mommy!! Stacy

I am so glad, thanks to Brian, coming to her rescue.
It is so hard to have your independence taken away at no fault of your own.
She is learning now more that college can ever her teach her....who loves her and watches over her.

You know I wonder if she could go to Shawnee to get it repaired. They didn't get the hail and it's not as far.

I'm so sorry she has to deal with this.

The first thing I made Brian do when he got home tonight was read these posts. That and the fact that I had gutted the dining room, seemed to do the trick. While he still hasn't risen to my code red level of excitement, he no longer thinks I've gone mad. I took four bids over the past two days and hired a contractor this afternoon. The rub was that he had a tight window. This project will be done by Monday. So I skipped out of work two hours early and flew into action. The contents of the dining room (and there were many) have been safely moved. Although the rest of our house looks like a giant flea market tonight...that dining room is clean. Contractors are a mysterious bunch. I'm not used to them, seeing as though I'm accustomed to doing the work myself. I was quoted a range between $800 and $1,800 (one laughable bid came in at $3,000 but that's another story). It turns out the guy who quoted $800 came with the most experience and recommendations. He was the busiest too. He's in the process of restoring the exterior of a Victorian here in town. I took an immediate liking to him. Let's hope my gut instinct pays off. I had a co-worker ask me this morning if I had it all over to do, would I buy this particular house. It really gave me pause. This property needed so much work. So many bad choices had been made over the years. We went blindly in thinking they were all easy fixes. But the answer was yes. I would do it again. This house deserved her face lift. Brian..Oh my God..Seems to be you do everything right, even Sugar has the whitest fir and the cleanest eyes! What the heck do you feed him, Miracle Grow..?lol Seriously, that coat of fir looks so soft and cuddly and clean! A diamond in the rough buddy..I never saw a dog of that sport look so clean..They usually have a problem with black fir around the eyes if they don't get the right nutrition..You are doing a mighty job buddy! Well I did say everything right, but you fail when it comes to eating sloppy Joe bud..ha Listen, I would kill for a three hour thunderstorm. I can't even get a ten minute one. It's been three years..The deforestation is really doing damage and they are just now admitting it. We are turning into another desert..It's scary. You say you need work between the shoulders..I am all your pal and I won't even charge you..I'll just trade you for one of your trees..lool It was 55 all day here because the front never moved northward until about 3..Then it popped up twenty degrees in a half hour..lol Now it's warm here..60's tonight)))) I love it. You should see how all my trees are loving it and my plants in the yard..Every tree is still outside Brian..I thin after after this weekend that's it...50's and 30's by night for days on end it seems..Arg! Brian, thank you for asking about Mom..She's had a tough day and she can't believe how many here care about her..What a great bunch of beautiful human beings here, including Sugar of course....We need that... I hope you are wrong about this winter..I don't want to spend so many days worried about the heaters going out due to a circuit breaker or storm..It's the most stressful thing for me keeping things in my greenhouse. Every single day it drops well below freezing, I have to keep a thermometer close to my bed for when I wake up or keep calling my home to see what the temps is..My Mother is my watch dog. Sugar must love sitting in there with you buddy> Give him and yourself a hug for me will you? By the way, soil mix question?? Do you have to amend your mix at all? And do you ever over pot or pot just one size up from the root ball? Thanks bud

Good luck with them! I like floribundas too. HT's do NOT do well for me. I'm afraid Iceberg does blackspot, though. It's worth ringing Treloar's Roses next year, if you decide to plant more. You'll get good advice on what will do well in Sydney. If you give up on Iceberg, try Summer Memories, though it is thorny and gets large if you let it, it is very disease resistant, and smells faintly of raspberries. Trish Summer Memories

I didn't think about Shawnee Kim....Brian since their office is in Tulsa/Broken Arrow he knew of a place to call....so is just so excited....she so hates to depend on others because it puts them out....Yes she is learning alot Trin.....I am not getting her dad lately he was all like well move home, quit your job..work in muskogee and I won't charge you rent to live with us? Hello we just signed a 9 month contract she has told him over and over she does not want to end up living in checotah....she loves having her independece and is really trying...the storm was not her fault..and to top it off he also said from now on she can pay her own insurance?? I mean come on this child is trying hard to make it and now he throws this at her too? I don't get it!

Stacy: You say you don't get it when it comes to how Syd's dad is doing with her in her time of need. I think you do, it's a thing called 'control'. 'If you don't move back in with me like I want, then I'll make it harder for you to live on your own'. It's so sad, isn't it?

Yeah you are right gadgets! But she is not buckling under to him...I mean I knew he wasn't happy when she told him she was not moving home this summer but crap fire....to be cruel about it? Oh well in the long run he is the one going to suffer!! STacy

Well, she'll get her windows, before I get mine... I finally talked to the insurance peeps, and have an appointment to get my car looked at for Monday.

Be proud of her. If she can pay it out of her own money, it'll mean so much more for her and her independence.

Brian is a keeper. It is so sweet what a good dad he is to Syd. When Jerry is old, he will wonder why Syd doesn't visit him.

Doesn't she have glass breakage as part of her insurance pkg? I thought most policies included that.

Oh My!! When I first read the title I thought it said "Sydney is so lycky to have a brain"! Goodness, where is MINE! LOL
I agree with Glenda,Sydney is very lucky.They are all lucky that they can all get along as a family even though Brian isn't her "real" dad.So many blended families are not that fortunate.
I was fortunate to have a step-dad that would have given me the moon if he could have.
I also agree with whoever said it is a "control" issue with Syd and her dad.She seems to know what she wants and hopefully she will stick to her guns.She has come a long way in her short life and I believe she will accomplish whatever she sets her mind to.

Thanks everyone...I don't know if she has glass breakage...her dad is/was paying her insurance and I know all she has is liability that is why even though the insurance would total her car she is going to have to drive it as is...so not sure if she has that or not...if she does he didn't tell her! Stacy
