We used the vertically-oriented bullnose when we did subways a couple houses ago. It was a 1920s home and the vintage look worked.

As an alternative, you could get a metal edge trim piece (if you don't mind a thin piece of metal).

Andy-- you might want to check and see if your tile's manufacturer makes a tile with the bullnose on the 3" side. Many do now.

We just encountered this exact situation ourselves. Right or wrong...we just ended the tile. We're using a tumbled slate, and the ends have a slightly rounded/finished look anyway to them. It actually looks ok.

We did the same as sleevepresto - just ended the tile. I like the look actually - has nice clean line. Don't know if its the "right" way to have done it, but I'm pleased with the look.

keptoz - my kitchen has a similar layout to your stove wall. I wasn't sure if I should end the tile like you did or add a bullnose. I like your look ... by the way nice appliances!

rufinorox - loving my range!!! The micro is nice too, but having to get used to having only 1000 watts. My old one was 1100 & I notice the difference. I keep checking to see if you installed your backsplash - can't wait to see it. I don't know what to tell you about the edging. I guess its a matter of preference. Honestly, I'm not even sure my tile came with a matching bullnose edging - I'm sure it did at one time, but I bought it on close out & wasn't even thinking about that. I was just so happy it was priced in my budget since it was love at first sight lol!! I just lucked out that I liked that straight edge look :)

Here's ours: we wondered the same thing, but our tile guy just said he'd end it on the sides with the tiles, nothing more.

keptoz - i never use it other than heating up food and coming from an 800 watt its awesome! We're hoping to install the backsplash next week. I'm going to see if they have a edge on the tile we've selected, otherwise it looks fine without one.

Daltile makes long end bullnose, short end bullnose and L and R two sided corner bullnose. That way you can end the tiles as above but have a bullnose rather than a cut ceramic tile edge. You usually have to order these by the piece to you need to have a count of how much you need.

I didn't use anything on the ends and it looks fine.
