Naked, legged, or maybe corbelled??
Comments (27)wow Breeze - you've certainly got your hands full! I really feel for you. Being your own contractor can be tough when you dont even have the team of (known quality) subs to just call when you need them. When i watch my GC at work, i am in awe of the balls she juggles (ha! pun!) and the timeliness she can make things happen. Keep up the amazing work - you are so close! And yes, i still think the naked corner (looks best probably?) but beckons heads, cause you just cant see where in space it is when you are at that height. the leg would give it some presence. Well, now come to think of it, our old island had 2 naked corners (12" overhangs) with no bumped heads ever..huh... i always kept those silly spongey babyproof corner protectors on them though. i dunno - something to think on i guess...See MoreIsland and Counter Balance install (no corbels) Pic Heavy
Comments (11)I did Breezy! He said Friday. DH is out of town on business till Friday night so he was hoping that install would be Saturday. It will just have to be a nice surprise when he comes home :) Of course I'm panicking because while I have been assembling and installing the rest of the drawers, I've found a few things that the guys missed that should be done before granite (extra support for sink & support for the top two drawers of our 30" bank of drawers) but DH said he can just make them work after granite is installed. Hope he's right! I have so much anxiety. I told him the other day, I know we are SO lucky to be getting our kitchen remodeled, but for the past few months of living with construction and every single room of our home a mess, dust and sawdust everywhere, dealing with contractors, design decisions, and financial stress (of course we went over budget, etc.) I feel like I can't relax in my own home. Just counting the days until we have a functioning kitchen again and I'm not sweeping our "paper/cardboard" floors anymore. Sorry - late night venting after a glass of wine. Two more days until we are one step closer!!!...See MoreIsland posts, legs or corbels
Comments (12)It's probably just something you have to decide based on which look you like better. One thing to consider is how you want it to look from adjoining rooms. A solid side gives a more substantial look, imo. This is a look I like if you're going with posts. The wood apron along the countertop overhang gives it a more finished look. This one is particularly attractive to me. This doesn't give as solid of a look, imo....See MoreCorbells or legs to support 15” granite overhang
Comments (2)The "6 & 10 Rule": If your slab is 2 cm, you can have up to a 6" overhang without support. If your slab is 3 cm you can have up to a 10" overhang without support If you are using a pony wall or cabinets with a depth of less than 2 times the depth of the overhang, then you need to provide support to equal at least 2/3 of the total depth of the countertop. . Anything over these numbers needs to be supported. For example, With 3cm granite, if you have a 15" overhang you will need 5" corbels or other support so no more than 10" is unsupported. . If you don't want corbels or legs, consider the "CounterBalance" system instead. See the following threads for more information on the above: Kevin - 'remember the 6 & 10 rule' [talks about the CounterBalance system, among others] granite fabrication questions..what do you think! [also talks about the CounterBalance system, among others]...See Moredlr98004
