Can I get your opinion on a table finish please?

Hi! I went out shopping for a kitchen table. I'm not sure which finish would look best in my kitchen. The light colored on is closer to the style and the black picture I just posted to show the color finish.

My kitchen

This was before we painted but it shows more of the island.

Finish 1 The table will be a small rectangular leg table and this style chair back but a plainer leg.

This finish and table shape but smaller and not this chair.

Hope I'm making sense. I could not find exact pictures. Thanks so much!

I like the rectangular table with the black chairs best. The black chairs relate back to the black on the range & microwave & the wood top relates to the cabinetry. And the ceiling fan. And it looks like your counter tops have some black in them? Also, I think the cream painted set will look 'larger' in that space & tend to dominate the room. That, & I don't think I care for the cream color with your wall paint.

I think either style will work. I do not like the chairs on the bottom and I have to admitt I personally prefere a lighter color. I think it will make a small smace look larger. The table and chairs I want is like your top picture, but I am looking for a double pedistal (I feel w/ a pedistal you can fit more people around it comfortably). Is the top table Canadel?

No, you do not need a special remote with a closed-front cabinet. You need a small gadget called an "infrared repeater" or "infrared extender". It picks up the infrared beam from the remote and transmits it to the dvd player or whatever. The pickup is as small as a pen cap so it can be tucked underneath the cabinet, through a hole drilled in the corner of a door, mounted on top of the TV, you name it. They are not necessarily costly - Smarthome has a good selection - nor necessarily difficult to install. If you want to shop in person, an A/V specialty store (if you have one around, Tweeter is a great store for customer service) will probably yield much better results than somewhere like Best Buy that may only have one or two items at most, but you'll get better prices shopping online. It's also quite simple to drill some holes in the back of a cabinet to provide additional ventilation. Drill a series of 1" holes a few inches apart at the top and bottom of the rear panel. (Most of the time it's just masonite or very thin plywood anyway.) If your components run particularly hot, you can add a cooling fan. Some home theater components have a plug in the back just for things like this, so when the hot-running component is turned on the fan comes on automagically. :-)

You guys are terrific, and I really appreciate your input. You have definitely helped me settle on grout the same color as the tile. So, to follow-up, yes the shelf I was thinking of was the Grundtal shelf, and yes, I was thinking I would install it so as to hide the brackets behind the tile, which is why I'd need to decide in advance. This one has separate rails that make up the shelf (see link). I was thinking a solid shelf might interfere too much with the venting and lights. I'm still not sold, and I hadn't thought that it could potentially look cheesy next to the range and hood. I think I'll go ahead and get one to check this out. I could always use it somewhere else in the house if it doesn't look good over the range. If I do decide to use the shelf, do you all think it should align with the bottom of the adjacent cabinets? The large pot in the photo is my tallest stock pot. Would that leave enough room to put things on the shelf and be able to lift pot lids comfortably? About the tile next to the window, I just checked and it looks like it's about 1.5-1.75 inches between the window and cabs. Do you really think that's too much of a sliver? Skins are brad nailed and then filled with the putty stick if the small holes are in a noticable spot. They can be problematic to install, and sometimes end up looking just like you've pictured because they're so thin. What you have is an "average" install, not a poor one. I prefer a furniture finished side from the factory for that very reason. No skins. It's a bit more expensive,but not by that much. Personally, I'd order the decorative door overlay to go on top of that skin as you'll be seeing that side a lot. The door overlay will make it look a lot more finished.

These jades don't care for our hot wet summers. While many have reported that they are prone to brown spots, mine gets full blown edema if I am not careful. Here's a thread on just this problem - http://forums.gardenweb.com/discussions/3509597/those-darn-brown-spots-on-jades Good for you in deciding to repot. That is often the root of the problem - pun intended!

Rtmom2, they are both Canadel. The first picture is closest to the style I'm thinking. I really like the chair. The black one is just to show the finish I could not find an exact picture of my table. It will be a small rectangular table and the chair will be similar to the first pic. ci lantro thank you for putting into words what I just could not but my finger on. I thought the light would compliment the island but the color is off and it may look like I tried to match and goofed. I was afraid the black would stand out too much as the only black piece in thr room but you're right there is other black in the room and my granite does have black in it. Thanks for pointing that out.

Ok I found a picture of the actual table and chair just need poinions on finish. The table top will be stained similar to my cherry cabinets and the base will be painted in either finish almond or black?
