I'm so sorry to hear your parents are suffering from alzheimers. It's such a devastating disease. My father and stepmother shared a room in the nursing home. Is that not a possibility for your parents?

Oh, we just had to place my aunt in assisted living this year. I know how difficult this time is for you.

Are you looking for a place where they can share a room? We've seen several wonderful ones where couples are cared for in the same room--it saves a little on the cost, and, of course, the big benefit that they are with each other.

I know it's hard, and expensive for you, but really, don't you think they'll both be happier to be living in the same place? In the long run, I'm sure this will work out for you and them

It will be hard on them to be separated.
There are a few marrieds in the nursing home my Uncle Gene is in and they are so happy together.

Oh, yes! We definitely want them in the same room or at least the same home. We don't know yet what the recommendation for Dad will be...assisted living, Alzheimer's unit, or general nursing home care. He should be discharged next week so we're hoping things fall into place soon.
I just talked to the director of the home where Mom is and they don't feel like they can take Dad. At the very least, we hope to find a place for Dad to move to next week and then we can move Mom when there's an opening there. The director at Mom's home said that Mom is missing Dad. About 3 pm, she starts looking for him as that's the time he goes there.

I'm really hoping they can be together, as well. Much easier on the whole family.

A little bit of humour......this was on the news a number of months ago, but a couple who have Alzheimer's were in the same nursing home together. They've been married forever, but don't remember each other!! They thought they'd met each other there for the first time. Are walking around holding hands, and said they wished they knew each other before.

Their daughter said that in "real life" they argued all the time.
I laugh when I think of this, but probably very hard on the daughter. She was taking care of them both, then had to put them in the nursing home, and then sees this transition.
Too cute.

My parents were known as the "love affair of the county". She was in an iron lung for a few months in the 50's and Dad was there every weekend looking at her through the window of the iron lung ward, making faces, singing old songs,blowing kisses, doing the ol' soft shoe. Everyone always said that he's the reason she fought to recover; he wouldn't let her go!
But, knowing Alzheimer's, I've wondered if there may come a time when they don't recognize each other. I sure hope they at least like each other, though.
My sis-in-law's father ended up in a private care home where his sister also was. They never had got along, couldn't really stand each other. But, they both had Alzheimer's and got along very well because they didn't recognize each other :)

Bless you for being there for your parents. To care for and watch one's parent slipping into that endless fog is the most painful thing. And what a good man your dad has been! I will be thinking of your family and praying that you find a place for them to be together as soon as possible.

oh my i really feel for you. im going through the same thing, not alzheimers yet but i can see it coming in my mom, im just sick about. shes almost impossible now, i cant get her meds right and she double doses and i cant be there 24/7 and work, and my dad cant do it all either.. i dont resent that but darned if shell do what shes supposed to. and they say i wasnot a difficult kid lol. i love them dearly but what do you do when they wont do anything to help themselves..sorry got off topic..but my thoughts and prayers are with i know how hard it is. im tired to too!
