Perhaps depends if the slabs you select are on the green or the gray side. Will the armoire have closed doors which will hide the countertop or will the stone be visible with the doors shut? Off white or one of the subtle colors from the granite might be nice also.

The unit will not have CE on it all all. But it will be immediately beside the granite. The walls will be BM Coastal Fog, which is kind of a deep cream/taupe. The cabinets will be SW Antique White. Because there won't be a lot of color in the kitchen, Iwas thinking I could go with a fairly deep color on the armoire piece, which yes, will have doors hiding the mess.

Coastal Fog is a beautiful color and will be very nice with the cabinets and the granite.

If the armoire is a unique feature in the kitchen it might look good to use a different color than the cabinets. However, if the armoire is part of the visual run with your cabinets I'd consider keeping it the same color as the rest of the cabinets.

My suggestion is to get a sample from your slabs if possible (I know those slabs are not too large and this may be difficult) and bring it with you to select your armoire color. Again, CE can vary greatly in color (what I've seen lately tended to be very gray, not the light green) and without seeing your slabs it is difficult to comment on whether to go blue, gray, or green. Those are cool colors and you may want to consider going in a different direction and look to a warmer side of the color wheel as an accent. Just a thought, however!

Also, consider the rest of your home and the color family that you are using.

Your plans sound beautiful and I'll be interested to know what you finally select.

Too funny... when I read, "Also, consider the rest of your home and the color family that you are using." I immediately thought, "Umm, well, we're white, does that matter?" What an idiot I am! I've attached a few pics of slabs that I'm in love with, though I have not reserved them. The office cabinet is specifically being built NOT to resemble the existing cabs, so I'm really thinking a deeper, darker color would be nice. The granite place was nice enough to give me a 5x7 sample, though I don't know that it particularly came from this set of slabs... I have held it up to various paint samples, but sometimes I think I match things toooo closely.

Thanks for the vote of confidence on Coastal Fog!

The slab you posted looks, on my monitor at least, leaning more toward the gray end of CE than the lime green end. It is gorgeous and I wish we could have CE. It looks beautiful with white appliances also.

I don't know the brand of paint you are considering, but my Farrow and Ball color chart has some beautiful gray/blues. One might look at Pigeon, Blue Gray, or perhaps French Gray or Lamp Room Gray. They would contrast your Coastal Fog nicely and give some definition to the armoire. The big question is how they would look with the actual slab rather than a via a monitor.

I do have a FB color chart here and have considered French Gray and Lamp Room Gray. Oval Room Blue is the deepest one I like with the sample. As much as I don't want to exactly match the muted green of the granite, I am concerned that OR Blue may read too blue. I had overlooked Pigeon but just tried it and it is an almost EXACT match to the granite. Guess I'm going to have to spend the usual big bucks on samples! Thanks for your help!

I happen to have this picture of F&B Pigeon. It's the greenish color in the picture and the lighter is Crown Point Sand by BM.

I have Costa Esmeralda too and found it very difficult to pick paint colors. I ended up with CPS on the walls and I'm very happy.

When My Costa Esmeralda went in (60 sf of it) It was a lot of green to me, even though mine was more on the gray side. I looked for paint colors that weren't so green. I do like Coastal Fog for the walls though. I have something similar in my living room and love it.

What about a deep putty color....something like Martha Stewart's Drabware? Have you ever seen the Wedgewood drabware? It's like a deep latte color...so pretty. That was one of my inspirations. Lowe's carried MS paints.

Thanks Positano -I tend to love the MS colors, so will definately search drabware out. I'm desperately trying to have the design in place before so much as a single bit of demolition is done. I have been in the spot like so many, where 'the painter is coming tomorrow and I still don't know what color I want!". I'm determined to avoid that, but of course, until the CE is actually in our kitchen, with our kitchen light, our surrounding stuff, etc., it's all a bit of a guess. I have to consider that the choices I make now may not work after all. So while I'm thinking blue/green/gray for my office armoire, I may be 'greened' out when the CE is in, and opt for a taupey-gray. Thanks for the suggestion!

i also have ce and love it. i would be considered a "matchy" person. not one to go across the color wheel, rather stay within a range. i have green all over my kitchen, from green apples to split pea dried beans in my candle holders to a potted fern in a glass cloche and then my cushions on my banquette are a darker green. i really like it.

i find my ce (which looks similar to your slabs) has some dark green veins in it. would you do something like that color for your armoire? also, i have a coffee canister out which has dark greens and aqua blues, both of which look really pretty too. personally, i don't think the blue would work for your armoire...i would stick with the dark gray or dark green colors.....

What about something like Willow Decor used for her butler's pantry? It's a grey called Fieldstone by BM. It's also the color on the cabinets in the kitchen picture.

It's funny you mention that Positano -we had actually picked out Coastal Fog for the walls, and Fieldstone for the furniture piece. I went to BM to get samples, but they didn't offer either of these two colors in the sample size. The fellow there loaned me two large sample sheets (5x7) and I was quite surprised at how much lighter the Fiedstone looked that way. That is actually what led me to posting here -realizing I needed something deeper and darker!

here you go....i don't know why they are in the fkb.....i'll send a message to starpooh. also, these pics were the first i took. i have more accessories out now with different greens, but it will give you an idea. you will be able to see my darker green cushions and the coffee canister!!!!

Thanks for the pics gglks -very, very pretty space! What color is your wall? We will have wood on top of our island and a dark wood table and chairs. So I was thinking more wood on the office piece would just be more wood-tones than I wanted.

I used Costa Esmeralda in my bathroom on 2 vanities. I tried most of the Restoration Hardware tans and greens on the wall - nothing worked.

I finally went with BM Adobe Beige. Cabinets are an espresso color.

bestyears....my paint color is SW Grecian Ivory. i really like it and it keeps the space really neutral. that being said, i'm not afraid of color. i normally like darker, deeper walls. i was trying to keep the kitchen really light and airy, but when i see positano's, i think i should have gone a little bolder. oh well, paint i can always change down the road!!!!!

positano, i'm doing good! things are finally warming up here in rochester, ny which always helps everyone's cabin fever....especially my two young boys!!! my barstools are actually from jcpenney's....i think they are called the alexander????? dh and i had to put them together which wasn't too hard. they are much cheaper than pb......quality seems to be ok too. my dh is funny......we could spend mega $$$$$$$$ on a kitchen remodel, but it drives him crazy to spend a lot on things like barstools!!!! oh well....hopefully they will last. i always try to tell him the cheaper ones may need to be replaced a lot sooner but he doesn't buy it!!!!!!! so far, i'm happy with the stools!!!

bestyears, i was just checking out kelleg's post...she also has ce and this must have been one of her inspiration photos. it has an "armoire" in an offwhite kitchen painted green.....i don't think this is the color you are going for, but it's nice to see the pic to help you visualize things...hope this helps!

positano...our stools are 24in. high. i think you should stick with pb if there are no household objections! i feel like they would have to be a better quality.......plus they probably come assembled. that counts for something too.

GGlks- Just got the PB stools and I love them! Perfect height and very well made. Thanks again for the info on yours. I got some affordable Target stools forst and they aren't holding up so well. So I'm replacing them with PB. Had a coupon so it's not so bad.

ohmygosh those are some gorgeous built-ins in that inspiration photo gglks! I haven't made a decision on paint color yet... By the way, since the subject of stools came up, we're using the Kaya stool from World Market. For some reason, it doesnt' show up on the website anymore, but it's a high stool and matches these chairs. We have a store here in town, so I got them there (WITH my 25% coupon!). I'll keep you all posted on colors. We just got a new Pratt & Lambert store in town so I went and picked up one of their fandecks -just leads to more confusion probably...!

I do love Pratt and Lambert colors. Some of my favorites are Zinc, moselle, riversand, solitary, whale. A friend of mine used them all over her apartment and they look beautiful. A nice taupey grey might be Brierwood.

I thought of something else...what about Martha stewart's bedford grey? She painted her whole kitchen with this. I love the way it looks, some think it's too blah. Depends on what your style is. I also like the look of her kitchen on her show. Love that color and it goes great with CE.

By the way your CE is so pretty. If you really love it I would reserve your slabs. It would be so sad if you went back and they were gone.

The wall paint color that was chosen to go with our Costa Esmeralda leans toward the red tones, rather than the gold tones or neutral beige, and looks like annkathryn's. Since I've proved to myself that I am the queen of blendiness if I do the choosing, I had a professional come out with her deck of BM samples and told her what I thought I wanted. The color is great with the greenish-gray CE, as well as the multi-colored Indian slate that we put on the fire place wall.

However, for a FURNITURE paint color, I think you're on the right track with your earlier comments: ". . . I'd like to paint it a deepish shade of blue/green/gray...a deeper darker color."

Are you going to do the painting? Does the color have to be decided before everything else is done? It sounds like, if possible, it might be better to wait until the rest is done, and then paint a large piece of cardboard or plywood and let it sit in the armoire's location for a few days, repeat with other colors, etc. until you find the one that seems to give you the best balance with the other dark things in the room, as well as the bling.

oooh, that link to MS' kitchen is beautiful. Will have to go look for that color as well as the P&L colors you mentioned. Anne, I don't HAVE to pick the paint just yet, but I'd like to have an idea, which I may change once the granite is installed. My plan has been to do exactly what you mentioned, and stick the boards with paint on them in place. I just don't want to be starting at square one with the painters coming the next day!

I second (third? I didn't read the entire thread) the suggestion of F&B Pigeon. Castle Green is greener, but quite beautiful, in my opinion. May be deeper than your wishes. Oval Room Blue is quite blue, compared to your CE. I don't think it would be to your liking. I've not sampled French Gray, but I think you ought to try that, too, just based upon what I have read. If you want to be a bit radical, how about something like Green Ground or Tunsgate, that would pick up the citron-like, paler veins. Or are they an artifact of my monitor?

Uh, I meant "Castle Gray." I have green on the brain right now.

Tammy518 just posted a picture of her hutch (on the decorating forum) she painted in Fieldstone. It is lighter than you wanted, but would look very nice with the white cabs and costa esmeralda.

A little update: I'm painting an armoire I recently bought from CL, for use as an outside patio storage piece. I purposely selected a couple of SW colors that were similar in tone to what I was thinking of for the kitchen piece. I first tried 6186 Dried Thyme, and wow, was I stunned at how a little green goes a lonnnnng way! I then went 1 shade down, to Escape Gray (6185) This looks to be right between Pigeon and Blue Gray on the F&B card. It's a much better color for the patio armoire, but has made me realize even this lighter shade would be much too much color for the piece in the kitchen. So I'm rethinking this idea of painting it a mid-to-dark tone. Now I find myself looking at F&B light blue or lamp gray (this one has the same level of color, but screams less somehow). Anyhow, I'll still graciously accept all your insights, comments, etc.!

I think those F and B colors would be nice. Is it lamp room gray? I use a lot of robins egg blue accents in my costa kitchen, and I really love the way it looks together. It really depends which way you want the kitchen to go. The light blue could be really pretty!

This is my laundry room. The wall color is Morning Dew by Benjamin Moore. It may not be as dark as you want but it's really pretty with the stone.

THANK YOU for the link Positano! That is exactly the color I have in my mind's eye! I'm not sure why they call it "Light Blue", and yes, Lamp Room Gray is what I meant to say. And I love your eye of Robins Egg Blue as an accent! Love it!
