WOW! that looks fantastic! I love the simplicity of it. I have no suggestions for the area between the posts right now-- I kind of like it as is. I have been looking at that wardrobe from Ikea for a while, though and wondering if it functions well. You have two sets, and one has the pants hangers on the lower rack and the other has space for boxes, jewelry, shoes? they both have drawers at the bottom? that looks so functional! I need that...

Very nice! The only thing that comes to mind is a round mirror, no frame, beveled or with etching. Simple.

If I'm reading this right, you already are getting by without dressers, aren't you? Are you asking if a bedroom looks funny without a dresser? We don't have dressers in our bedroom so I think the look is fine! Store your clothes in the way most convenient for you. I have drawers from the Container Store in my closet for socks, undies and bras, shelves for sweaters and almost everything else gets hung.

As for the wall, I'm not sure. You have a lot going on with hard straight lines, it might be nice to use something with soft edges, nothing geometric.

That's a great looking bed. I agree that something with round/soft lines would be nice - when you find just what appeals to you. I love not having dressers in my room. It makes it more of a retreat.

Odd one out here but I like dressers and drawers. I have certain things I don't like hung, such as sweaters, lingerie, tee-shirts, that kind of thing. We even have a piece at the end of our walk-in closet where the top is drawers and the bottom is a cabinet. LOL

I think a mirror or a piece of metalwork (either one in black) would look nice over the bed.

Oh goodness, if you don't need the dressers, get rid of them, because to you they're just useless clutter and very large clutter at that! It seems to be all the rage to have all your clothing storage in massive closets with built-in drawers and no freestanding dressers at all, especially where the other furniture you've chosen is very sleek and
modern in feel it makes sense to continue to streamline the room further. If you were on the other end of the spectrum, with Victorian antiques and a higher "fuss factor", it might be more likely to look like something is missing if you didn't have a dresser.

My thought for the wall is a scattering of small, unframed (but perhaps beveled), simple round mirrors, just for some sparkle but not big enough to actually reflect anything you don't want reflected - if ya know what I mean. ;-) You can get the mirrors inexpensively at a crafts store or through eBay. Say, a mixture of 2", 3", and 4" ones. Think stars in the night sky, or moonlight rippling on the water, not disco ball. ;-) A little sparkle, a little roundness, but still keeping that clean, modern feel.

If I may make an unsolicited suggestion (my feelings will not be hurt one bit if you tell me to stuff it where the sun don't shine :-)) the countryish white chair in the corner is throwing me off a little bit - it's kind of like you have the "black modern side of the room" and the "white traditional side of the room". Is there any way that the white chair could be switched for a black one, maybe a little severer in style (to riff off that great bed), or that one painted black if it can't be changed out? Since you're an Ikea shopper, I think there are a couple of chairs on their website that would echo the lines of that pretty bed really well: Roger (recover the seat in blue - perfect! this one's my favorite), Stefan, maybe Norvald.

The room is coming together into a really snazzy one, though!

MLRaff53, I love that mirror - it's beautiful. Johnmari, when the budget permits I would actually like a small upholstered chair in that corner. I love all the chairs you linked to. I actually have the Stefan one at my kitchen desk, but like the other two better! Maybe I'll just have to swap chairs until I have more $!

It looks fabulous! I really wish I could get away without dressers. My room is stuffed with way too much furniture.

One thing you might do instead of hanging a picture at the head of the bed is go look at the saris on eBay. Get a nice long pretty one and drape it artistically and asymmetrically over the horizontal post at the head of the bed. I gave my son one that he uses on his bed that way and it looks great, plus it's an unexpected approach.

We're planning on getting rid of our dressers as soon as we get to the master suite remodel. The bedroom itself is on the small side so we're borrowing the adjacent bedroom and making that a large walk-in closet and a spa-style bathroom. We're hoping that will give us enough room in the bedroom to put in a small sitting / reading area.

If that were my room I'd get some long lengths of really sheer white fabric and wrap / drape them around the canopy. I just love that look.

I worked with a decorator once who said it's an old designer's trick to do away with all dressers and just place nice furniture in the room instead.

She told me to look at pics of beautiful bedrooms and she was right!

I would do framed antique prints over the bed. I like botanicals, but they may not go with what you have. You could do something architectural, shells, etc. It looks like the space could handle 3 medium sized prints.

Betty the tree branch sounds cool - very west elm. One of these days I have got to go check that place out. I think whether I do fabric, prints or a wall hanging, it probably needs to be in the white range to bring the white across the room so to speak.

I can not believe how much more floor space I have gained! Plus, it's so nice to have a cat-free zone to hang my husband's work clothes.
