What to do with Hot Tub Not in use for 1-2 years

I have a hot tub that I havent used for 1-2 years and it has been sitting inside. The pool place sold me on a quart of spa purge made by national chemistery. She said to add the whole bottle to the unit and run it for 30 minutes and let it sit for 24 hours. I did and it foamed up and started running over within a few minutes. Im now wondering if she knew what she was talking about. Advice please.

Take careful note of the instructions and part 3. about the foaming...........

Reading the bottle instructions would have shown you part 3 as well.
Dosage:
One 33.9oz (1L) bottle for spas up to 1,000 gallons (3,800L)
How to Apply:
1. Remove cartridge filter elements
2. With spa water temperature at 95 degrees or higher, add entire contents of 33.9oz (1L)
Spa Purge to spa water
3. Run jets a minimum of 5 minutes
** If exessive foaming occurs, turn jets OFF
4. Maintain water temperature and allow spa to circulate overnight with jets off
5. Drain spa, rinse and then refill spa and reinstall filter elements. Proceed with
normal spa maintenance
Tips:
For a more complete spa cleaning, soak cartridge filter elements overnight in the

The best way I know is to hyper chlorinate for several hours and then dump the water. Refill, dump again after running a couple minute and refill. Put in new filter elements and balance following the instructions found on either Trouble Free Pools or Pool and Spa Forum (better for spas I've found but TFP is still excelent).

Hello I'm new to the site. I have been given a hot tub and i am trying to figure out how to turn it into a fish pond It cracked over winter so I'm just going to seal it.. It works ... So can I use the jets and it has a little built in waterfall ???I know the jets are powerful so I would have to find a way to weaken them.... Any ideas.... I would like to use as much as the original hot tub as possible .

Is there any way to run plumbing to the separate vanity area to make it into a sink? We are doing a gut remodel of our bathroom and we were able to cram in the shower, 5'6" claw foot tub, toilet and two sinks (on adjacent walls though, not next to each other) in a slightly less than 10'x11' space including sloped ceilings and a couple of windows. Here is an older version of our plan for the bathroom but shows the two sinks. The one next to the tub is a console sink (on chrome legs) so very open and the tub is now a double ended tub with plumbing in the middle. Here is a newer plan showing a tile layout I was messing with and the right tub. It also shows a bump out for a knee wall where the new drain is going to run - it turns out there was steel angle along that wall and we could not run the drain line under it so had to go through. It's more of a challenge to get the water there but wasn't impossible.

Stand alone hut tub maintenance is super easy. I have had one for over 20 years and use it almost nightly with no issues. I agree with much of the previous post although I am never fond with involving pools stores in my maintenance because you will get chemicals and expenses that just aren't necessary. A few points. A. I would use Bromine. Use a Bromine floater, get Bromine pucks, keep a few in there at all times and your sanitizer is covered. Chlorine breaks down too rapidly in heat and isn't as stable and Baquacil is difficult to maintain and pricey. B. Use Mule Team 20 and baking soda for your PH and alkalinity adjustments. Use small doses to start and test afterwards. Soon you will get a feel for what your water requires to keep these stable. C. Drain it regularly. It is super easy to do and is often easier than trying to right the water. I drain mine every three months. Yours appears to be pretty small like mine so it is not a large water consumption concern. D. Buy a spare filter and change them regularly. I swap them once a week. Spray out the dirty one and let it sit in the sun until you do you next swap, The sun will help break down nasties in it.

I'm the new owner of a 2000 Hot Springs Sovreign (Model I) hot tub. I basically got it for free from a friend of a friend, just had to pay for the move. They weren't using it. It did look like it had once had some sort of creature living for sometime behind the door. This worried me some, but I had it checked out and the guy ran the tub and it just needed a new ozonator and had no leaks, so I figured the creature had not eaten away at any of the pipes. I'm preparing to do a full system clean (using 1 - "flush" from a dealer / 2- superclorination / 3 - rinse). I hosed it all off (on its side before putting it into place), I scrubbed the whole thing down, and I cleaned out the dirt, sticks, etc left by whatever creature lived in the "pump room" *(which now looks like new). While doing all this, five different times I found a small slug (5 different slugs) in the tub itself. Is it possible that there are slugs living in the plumbing? Will my superchlorine and flush kill and remove these along with other "organic" matter? Will my wife freak out forever if there are a bunch of dead slugs floating on top of the tub? Anything else I should do? Am I doomed? I should also mention that I still have the old top on the tub (don't have the new one yet), so maybe it is possible they are in that, but I don't think so as the tub was wide open when this happened. Specifically you need to use a line flush product to remove any potential bio-film in the plumbing lines...of which there is likely plenty. The best commercial line flush product I have used is made by Aqua Finesse however the Spa Guard brand swirl away pipe flush is also good.

Foaming is an indication of garbage/oils in the water. Be sure to take the filters out of the tub as they do not need to be in while flushing your lines and can deposit detergents and oils in the water which will promote the foaming. Dump the water and refill and THEN you can flush the pipes again which maintaining 10ppm of sanitizer overnight. This will help to get the tub really clean and minimize foaming during the cleaning process.
