Countertop Corian color

Hi, I just found this forum last week and have been reading these hundreds of messages with great interest. We have kitchen cabinets that are 20 yrs old. They are Woodmode and although dated looking, in very good shape. They are the type that are white (maybe a laminate composite??) with an oak trim on the side of the doors and oak pulls. The countertop is white laminate, also still in decent shape but we want to replace the countertop. We are still debating between corian (we really want that integrated sink) and granite. Has anyone here used Riviera COrian with white cabinets? Or does anyone have Riviera in a kitchen and is able to post a photo of the kitchen? It is SO HARD to figure out colors with small samples. Our floors are a quarry tile of beige and soft white, similar to the colors of the corian. Thanks!!

At Home Depot I saw large printed "samples" the size of a sheet of paper, several of those taped across your counters could make it easier to visualize the color than the small chip. I have Corian countertops (Mont Blanc) with the integrated sink, and while I adore the counters, the sink is a big pain. Any tomato-based food (ketchup, spaghetti sauce, BBQ, V8 juice) will stain that sink, and the stains don't come out with 409. You have to bleach them out. Some pans leave black marks that have to be scrubbed out with comet. In the house we're building I'm using Corian counters again, but the sink will be an undermount stainless sink.

A discussion thread sometime last year came to general agreement that most people found the beige Corian sinks easier to keep clean than the white Corian sinks. I have an ivory/light beige Swanstone sink and it is much easier to keep clean than our previous (expensive and very good) Kohler porcelain-clad Executive Chef.

You may also wish to consider quartz - easier to keep clean, and I believe many of the vendors also offer integral sinks. They are more expensive than many other types of counters, however.

The shower is 5 x 5 (60 inch square). We don't have a tub in the room and that allowed for more floospace to be devoted to a very big shower, which I love. It's nice and roomy. I use the ledge for shaving legs and also propping a leg up to so I don't have to bend down to soap up the lower part of my leg and foot! The bench is out of the way and so doesn't detract from the size of the shower or make it feel cramped in any way. It could be used for sitting, but I never do that. I discovered an additional unexpected but very nice advantage of having such a large shower, which is that it doesn't seem to require as much cleaning as other smaller showers I have had in the past. Let me explain....since I shower while standing in the center of this big square "box", the soap, shampoo, and water don't really get splashed onto the walls of the shower very much, because I'm actually standing pretty far from the walls. The wall where the showerhead is and the bottom tiles that meet the shower pan all around do get a little wetter, but nothing much gets on the rest of the tiles throughout the shower. Even the shower glass doesn't get very wet. I clean the inside of the shower once every other week, but could probably go longer than that. There never seems to be any buildup of anything. This is with two adults using it on a daily basis. Best of luck with your project and please post pictures when you're done!

We have LivingStone counters in the "Volcanic Ash" color and an integrated Corian brand sink (LS doesn't offer a single bowl sink so we went w/Corian in order to have a single bowl sink). LS feels identical to Corian and I understand it to be an identical product with a good warranty and identical care but far fewer color options. Our counters/sink are only a little over a year old but I LOVE them--nothing has stained (at least nothing that a little bleach won't take care of) and they feel/look great. Integrated sink is the most wonderful design ever. LS counters are great, low maintenance counters with what we felt were the most pros (all counter options have pros and cons and you have to make a decision that will suit you and your lifestyle the best).

terry, do you mean LG Hi-Macs? Lomac is a drug. Hi-Macs is certainly comparable to Corian at a better price but it sure doesn't have more colors than Corian. Anyway, I'm sorry I can't help you with your sink concerns as I don't have a solid-surface counter. You may want to try searching "integrated sinks". One thing I know about SS sinks is that you need to run the hot water from the faucet before you pour hot liquids into the sink (like draining pasta) because the temperature shock can cause the sink to crack.
