Livingstone Countertops/Corian Countertops/Laminate

Help... I am back and forth on my countertops. I have been researching Corian, Livingstone, and Laminate and cannot decide. My contractor is actually starting next week. Does anyone have feedback or comments on any of these? I have been told that Livingstone is the same as Corian that you are only paying for the brand name on Corian. I love the fact that the seams do not show on the Corian but worry about the scratches even though they can be sanded out. Does anyone have the Deepstar Glaze Wilsonart HD laminate? Any feedback would be appreciated.

I have corian, it's lighter in color, i did the double ogee and have a white band going along the edge. Love the fact the sink is right in with counter top. Because it's light i don't even notice scratches. I use an item called gelgloss Countergloss to clean it up real good once in awhile. I've had it for just over three years now with no problems. I did the silestone on my island.

I have seen some Corian knock-offs (can't think of the brand names) and I really think there is a difference. The knock offs feel different. Can't attest for their durability over time though compared to Corian.

Hi raggiemom, I also did quite a bit of research before I purchased my Livingstone countertop. I had it installed right before Thanksgiving, so I don't have a lot of wear and tear information. I have four grown sons though and they don't pay much attention to what they set down on it. I had Corian in my last house and I do believe this will prove to be comparable. Have you seen the Livingstone website? www.livingstonesurfaces.com The price as you say, was not that much of a difference that I wouldn't have purchased the Corian if I really felt like this was not a good product. I really did like the color choices too. I don't think you will be disappointed. Hope this helps.

At Home Depot I saw large printed "samples" the size of a sheet of paper, several of those taped across your counters could make it easier to visualize the color than the small chip. I have Corian countertops (Mont Blanc) with the integrated sink, and while I adore the counters, the sink is a big pain. Any tomato-based food (ketchup, spaghetti sauce, BBQ, V8 juice) will stain that sink, and the stains don't come out with 409. You have to bleach them out. Some pans leave black marks that have to be scrubbed out with comet. In the house we're building I'm using Corian counters again, but the sink will be an undermount stainless sink.

It's like ummm just a left turn at Russia Bill...sheesh :oP (and Bill my dear....my current estimate of costs for the tile errors...I'm pushing gad over $6,000...that's six grand JUST TO FIX ERRORS (rebuild shower that wasn't properly sealed...which includes new tile and new frameless glass door and vent panel, tile to cover the missing tile the tile guy walked off with, tile to replace the tile used wrong (not installed or cut with the pattern in mind and install costs for the bad tile guys). I did find a wonderful guy...but I could really have flown you up first class and kept you in the finest moose lodge in town :oP I'm jealous though...when Bill is doing your tile (OP) please take lots of pics and post them for us. A Bill Original...sheesh I'd almost move for one LOL

Hi All! I have learned sooooo much on this site. Thank you Mr. Corlett. I have had Corian countertops since 1998 with a granite composite under mount sink. Love the Corian, not the sink so much because it seems yellowed since installed. But I do a lot of canning so the sink has put up with a lot of beet juice and boiling hot water with minimal distress, no cracks. Just clean with Soft Scrub and bleach sometimes. We are now building a house. I am again using Corian for the countertops. I am considering either a Corian integrated sink 850 or an LG-HiMacs integrated sink 3118. I do not like the sink drain in the center of the sink as in the 3118 but that sink is an inch and a half longer than the Corian so better for skillet handles to fit in sink. Do you have an opinion as to the staining or cracking or other issue of either product I might consider before making my final decision? Thank you. Cynthia

We had Corian in our last kitchen and it rocked. We had Matterhorn which is a bit on the darker side so you could see scratches if you abused it. Best thing was the integrated sink, cleanup was a breeze.

We have since moved and are getting granite based on the geography we've moved to.

I have been quite happy with laminate counters all my life, so saw no reason to spend hundreds to thousands more to have something else this time...and the pattern selection just keeps getting better and better. I do have some stainless by the stove and a DIY wood top on our island, too, but most of the perimeter is laminate, and all our bathrooms, the sewing room, my desk, and the laundry room have laminate. I didn't happen to choose a Deepstar pattern, because of liking others better for our home, so I don't have experience with that particular product.

I have Corian counters with the integrated sink - have had this for four years and I'm very happy with it. I have a light color too so scratching is not really visible and after this long I have the "patina" affect from normal use. I like laminate too. We recently replaced the old laminate counters with new ones at our weekend lake place and I'm very happy with that too. I do like the invisible seams of the Corian especially with the sink. Laminate is a great value though compared with Corian. I like that both have a "softer" feel than stone counter materials.

We have LivingStone counters in the "Volcanic Ash" color and an integrated Corian brand sink (LS doesn't offer a single bowl sink so we went w/Corian in order to have a single bowl sink). LS feels identical to Corian and I understand it to be an identical product with a good warranty and identical care but far fewer color options. Our counters/sink are only a little over a year old but I LOVE them--nothing has stained (at least nothing that a little bleach won't take care of) and they feel/look great. Integrated sink is the most wonderful design ever. LS counters are great, low maintenance counters with what we felt were the most pros (all counter options have pros and cons and you have to make a decision that will suit you and your lifestyle the best).
