We inherited our 70s pool when we bought our house in December. I think this T shape might have been meant for the situation you are describing. Personally, we think the deep end (the left hand side of the photo) is a little shallow for the diving board. It's OK for me, I'm 5'3", but my hubby is 6' and he is very cautious when diving there - his hands brush the bottom every time. I wish our shallow end was a little shallower, but then again, I'm short and not big on swimming - love to float around with a drink, though! Apologies for the picture, this is when we were taking it back from the winter swamp but it's the only one I have that shows the shape pretty well. I think this is about 38,000 gallon pool. Keep in mind - the bigger it is, the more water/chemicals/skimming there is to do! :) I do wish it was easier shape where it could have an automatic cover, too. I don't think that's possible with this shape, and even a manual cover is going to be custom, difficult to use and $$$$.

There are no safe options when there are kids involved. Just put a crash helmet on them soon as they can walk :-) I saw a friend's twelve-year-old kid at the community pool do a diagonal jump of the side of the pool and promptly hit the other side and need stitches. My kids never get hurt doing "high risk" stuff. It's always dumb stuff that you would not think of, but then again I have three boys (8,10.12) One tripped over the dog and broke his elbow last year. The other tripped in the bathroom getting off the toilet and cut his forehead on the counter top - five stitches. One fell off the couch and broke his collar bone and we ended up getting CAT Scans in case of a spinal injury since he could not move his head. The list goes on . . . And the funny thing is they ski and skateboard and never one E.R. visit for those activities. golfgeek wrote: Kids seem to find the darnedest ways to make any safe product unsafe. cpartist wow that ks truly beautiful. How did you get away without having to put up a baby barrier? I thought it was mandatory? Thank you. We are retirees so no babies. We have a fence around the whole property and when we got our CO we had alarms on all windows and doors. Anyways, I love your design, and everything about your pictures. I totally see your points in regards to having a stem wall, I'm just not sure we can justify the additional cost. 3 of the pool builders we have been in contact with have told us a stem wall would increase the price by $7,500-$10,000. I honestly don't know what the price would have been without the stem wall because I never asked. Most of our friends are older and I figured it would be easier on them too if they didn't have to climb up and down stairs to get to the pool. Also with you bring in South Florida and not having a screen how do you like it? How are the bugs? I prefer not having the screen. When I go to a house with screening, I feel like I'm in a cage. However, We have no large overhanging trees and I'm also only 3 blocks from the bay and we almost always have a breeze here so the bugs haven't been bad at all. (Unless you consider the army worm caterpillar infestation we just had in our planter box. All those pretty pink flowers are now gone between what the caterpillars ate and what we pulled out. Sigh.) If I lived further east, I would have definitely done a cage because the bugs are definitely more prevalent. Thanks again!
