Weekend quilting plans? 5/7-5/8/11

I probably won't do any sewing or quilting this weekend. I plan to spend time with my family. Are you quilting this weekend?

I am going to get my husband even-up my fabric and cut off some for me. My arthritis is giving me the "fits" and he is good at this job,Thank heavens.

I started a Yellow Brick Road yesterday and will continue tomorrow. Instructions sound complicated but it is really quite easy once you get going.

Oh gosh yes, but my quilting is like playing musical chairs, as I move from one project to another. I have broken my new year's resolution not to start another quilt before I got the ones in progress done. LOL. It all started out when I decided to straighten up my stash so I could get it all back into tubs and put away. You know how one thing leads to another. I decided I had way too many crumbs and scraps.......so took all the scraps large enough to cut a four inch block from and spent the morning generating blocks. Well that lead to putting some together. I had this one pattern I wanted to try and ended up getting a two by four section of quilt top done on it and HATED IT! It was one of those 'what was I thinking' moments. A chain pattern and one doesn't really know how they'll look until you get a few together. I was smart enough to just stop right there and I may even take it apart to rescue some of the vintage print fabric I used in it. I then had to start choosing a different pattern with my blocks and found one I liked and now I can't stop working on it. rofl. I love it. I have a paper piece with all the blocks made but not put together on the design wall, and a baby quilt I am within days of finishing the hand quilting on. So, here I am with three projects in the mill again.

The polka dot backing is just right! You made a great choice! ______________ I didn't get any sewing done this weekend but we tackled a job in the sewing room that's needed doing for a while. Remember the cat shelves we put up? Well after countless dashes up and down the shelves, the cats managed to loosen two of the shelves. The loosening tore big holes in the drywall too! So the shelves came down, then I patched the drywall and repainted the wall while Jim hunted for better shelf supports. He ended up with two brackets per shelf, anchored into the concrete block on the other side of the wall. Even the big cat (Jack continues to round out his figure!) can't make these wobble. No quilting, but the wall looks great and the cats are happy.

Is 8'11.5 x 9'8 too small for a child's bedroom?

I had a room that size, probably smaller, as child in two different homes. Cannot remember that they were small to me personally. I spent a lot of time outdoors playing and activities inside the rest of the house. If you have plenty of room throughout the rest of your home for toys and play, in my mind it would be functional. There are so many storage options for beds with under storage, putting dressers in closets and using lights and storage on walls. Being creative in a small room can be great fun. As a nursery it would be fine, enough room for essential furniture. A full size bed is approx. 54 X 72. You might want to lay tape over a rug or floor and imagine the options from there and also lay out furniture if you already have some. If I were a guest in the small room, it wouldn't be a complaint from me. Someone posted a wonderful loft that barely fit a full size bed. Used for guests and a cozy reading area. Sorry to hear about that Sharon and Donna. Donna I had a relative that was bleeding internally and losing a significant amount of blood, and they determined he had gall-bladder poisoning, unfortunately they did not catch it in time though. I hope they can figure out what is causing your SIL to lose blood. I spent part of this afternoon trying to get a good layout plan for my son's MineCraft quilt. It's gonna' be a twin size and I have never made a quilt that size before. I am also slowly making some quilted Christmas ball ornaments for my Mom's Christmas present - I have finished 2 and would like to make her 4 more, though I have not decided yet if I want to do 3 pairs of 2 with each pair being a unique color combo or just do them all with the same fabric so they all match.? I am contemplating cutting some fabric and making 2.5" jelly roll strips, that way I could use them for making quilted ball Christmas ornaments and scrappy quilts and bindings. I am thinking about getting a yard and a half of flannel and making a small temporary design wall above and behind my sewing desk (we have paneling in my sewing room right now, but later on want to put dry wall up and paint. How much does flannel usually cost per yard and would it be cheaper to just wait till this fall and get a twin flat flannel sheet at dollar store or kmart? - would love some suggestion on this. I suddenly found a wall that needs a quilt now so may do some planning and fabric fondling. But, doubt I'll get any time to actually cut and sew.

My goal is to lay out my diamond blocks for the 2nd raffle quilt I'm making and sewing them together before Monday night's meeting. If I can do it, then I can hand it off to a quilter and be done with it! (We're awarding it June 13th so am slowly running out of time)

Plans with family on Sunday, DD has Girl scout event Sat. am, and maybe brother/SIL coming Sat. afternoon to visit... Busy busy busy

I finished a graduation quilt last night - or rather morning (1:00 am). I had planned on quilting another one after getting some plants in the ground - before it rains again ! :( but unexpectedly DGS came over while Dad & brother are at baseball practice & Mom is at bridal shower. So...maybe I can convince him to help with the planting & still be able to quilt after BB practice :) ! ?
It's SO NICE outside at the moment, I hate to be inside for even a minute. But graduation & baby quilts can't (generally) be put off! :)

This weekend I'm prepping for my recovery time after knee replacement surgery (5/16). I will be moving my primary sewing machine to the dining room table where it will be easier for me to sit. I'll get a couple of my on-going projects stacked up and ready to go, along with all the thread and other supplies I might need.
I'm also going to cut out all the pieces for a few more of the hand applique blocks that I was working on last year! Won't that be great to get back to that project?!? I'll have that kit ready so I'll have something to do even before I can sit at the machine.
If I can find time this week I hope to get new covers made for the cushions on the patio furniture.

No quilting plans for this weekend. My "weekend" is Tuesday - Thursday. So my plans are to work on an Irish Chain quilt I'm making for my daughter as a wedding gift. I also hope to cut out the pieces for my birthday block friend and hopefully get that pieced up. I want to make a wall hanging to go over the tv in the living room but can't decide on pattern or color.

Yesterday I worked on my section of a quilt in the current round robin group projects. This one is a doozy: a photo image of a group of buildings in Paris; my section has a Tudor half-timbered tall building that looks like it is leaning; lots of timbers in patterns, lots of windows, and sidewalk cafe umbrellas closed up!

I finished one part of the timbered area and then my eyes gave out on me! I will post an image of my section when I finish it.

Hope everyone is having a Happy Mother's Day! I am doing some decorative stitching on my mom's canning jar applique lap quilt. Am using a flower stencil that I got at Hobby Lobby. The whole quilt is quilted I am just going back in the white space around the jars and doing decorative stitching with white thread.
