Get it off your chest.....what irritates ya?

I hate it when all of the radio stations I like to listen to when driving, cover baseball and other sports instead of playing the music I love. Geesh this stuff is on numerous TV channels. Enough already!!!

What is sticking in your craw??

PS, what the heck is a craw? LOL

I've used restrooms where I've had to clench my purse strap in my mouth to keep it off the floor.

My purses all have shoulder straps so I put it around my neck.

To tell you the truth, just about everything is ticking me off this week. It's too hot! But since I just got back from the grocery, I'd have to say food prices.

No. I use Firefox, block popups and use the AdBlock Plus add-on. There is no good reason to use Internet Explorer nor Outlook Express. I've finally even converted the DH after an lengthy fix of a virus that took over the home computer. (The Mozilla mail app is Thunderbird.)

Do you get irritating comments from NON-gardeners?

    Q

    Comments (62)
This may not be hardly on the same theme as annoying comments about your gardening skills, but I just need to vent. For the past several years, job, family and not a very good location kept me from doing much gardening. always in the back of my mind was... someday and somehow I am going to return to a property that I had owned for years, and have a garden. During that time, friends that knew my dreams would give me startings from their gardens and family and friends would give me a plant for special occasions. If I found a plant I liked on clearance I would buy it. Dh had been told many times that instead of a vase of roses, I would much rather have a rose plant. My yard basically became a "holding place" for my dream. A year ago things finally fell into place, for this to happen. But first things,first-- the house had to have major renavations, and my mother had a stroke and was hospitalized for 5 months before passing away. Needless to say my dream had to move down my list of proierities. Since we still own the property, we had just moved from, I thought my "treasures" would be safe until I could get a chance to move them. Imangine how I felt when people would come up to me and ask what I was going to do with all my flowers since I had moved away. One person remarked " you"e got flowers I have never seen before". Well, I am moving them to a new "Holding place", and will eventually get them into the right spot. If I had anything I didn't want to move, I would like the liberty of deciding what to do with it-- trade it-- gift it-- or even compost it. I"m not a selfish person, I love to divide--- but I want to know when I finally find the right spot for a special plant that it will still be there for me and that someone has just not helped themselves to it. Sorry for the rant-- I"ve waited 15 years, and I just don't want to be rushed now! Janet

Well I got my pacakge today and it was an avacado seedling. Hum....If I didn't figure out who my partner was from being a married male I sure know now...he he! An avacado.....I am sure that I will be the only one growing one of those in Wisconsin! My wife told me that it needs to grow up so we can make guacamole! I am sure she is going to have to wait because it is only a foot tall. I also recieved a bunch of herb seeds. I never buy dill but have always wanted to grow it because I love the smell and now I have the seeds. I also found a pillow stuffed with pine needles or rosemary or somthing that smells really good. I don't know what it is for exactly but I think it will make my socks smell good if I put it in my sock drawer! LOL I also see some copper tags in my box. Did I mention that I LOVE copper! I have been looking to by a shut off valve for my sprinkler hose so I can just shut it off at the hose and not at the house. Thank you gardening buddy ........who ever you may be! I will have a lot of fun watching your avacado grow!

DS got a desk for school (cool steel mid-century desk that will accept a clamp on multi monitor stand), a ukelele and some harmonica stuff (he's into teaching himself instruments), Airpods, a new backpack for school (a big waterproof bike messenger backpack), some sheets, and some clothes, including a pair of lederhosen (don't ask) and various cool shirts and jackets (our friend Keith died about ten years ago, he was a fashion designer and dancer, made gorgeous clothes and his husband Bill is only now letting go of Keith's special things). DD got a weighted blanket (it's a thing now, comfy blankets with added 15 lb of weight), a bunch of Glossier makeup and painting supplies, some cooking oils and sauces, some thrift-store leather pants, a fountain pen, and a plane ticket for a trip. SWMBO got an electronic toilet seat (she instructed Santa to bring her this, but he didn't install it so I have to), some luggage, and lots of little things - earrings and so on. I got a new dehydrator, slippers, a couple books, some coffee, and other stuff. I also am self gifting - I mean, Santa is bringing me - components for a bicycle project. Lots of carbon fiber bits have been arriving in the mail lately. I also bought myself a new espresso machine restoration project.

Cellphones and people who have to constantly check theirs. It's very annoying to try and enjoy a lunch or afternoon out with someone who is constantly answering phone calls and checking texts.

Peeps who wait to use their turn signals until they are actually turning/changing lanes.
Loud cell phone talkers in public places - as if I really wanted to know all that personal information about you?
Eating establishments with numerous large screen tvs -- but the sound is off and there is no text-enabled so you just have to stare at moving lips...
Grocery shopping carts -- need I say more?

About half of the people in our part of the world seem to be on perpetual, if intermittent, diet ...

... while about 3/4 of the world doesn't have enough to eat.

When someone says "to make a long story short" Drives me up the wall, because you know they never shorten the story. I think my friend says it because it is a habit. Also people who are perpetually late when they have no reason to be. I find it very rude.

Most of the above also irritate me. People who think "alot" is a word also irk me. It's not a word!

People who stop in the grocery store in front of the items that I am looking at, in that space between my cart and the shelves. They stand there forever, seems like, not realizing or not caring that I'm waiting for them to move along so I can snatch that box of cereal off the shelf and get out of there.

And people who won't move their cart out of the middle of the aisle to let others by, even when they see them coming. Some people are totally oblivious to others when they shop. They are so inconsiderate.

Grrr, Mingo. It never fails that somebody will have their cart right where I need to grab something, just as you said. Most of the time they finally move on and don't even get anything from those shelves. Man, that ticks me off.

At the moment, the never-ending, boring, and self-serving goodbye of Oprah. . .longest goodbye in history!

all of those are good. Those cup holders in the cart.
Really, can't people get through grocery store trip with out
drinking something? Sometimes it's hard to get the big bag
of dog food out because of that! lol

oh, and people who walk by the carts in the parking lot that
are NOT in the corral... they could easily take them into
the store. They are lazier than the people that left them
    in the parking lot.

People shopping by cell phones as they walk up/down the isle, no bank tellers with way too many people in line, or banks who will not have merchant tellers, seniors who shop on the weekend or stand around and visit in the store so I have to ask them to move, and play off games (local) that get extended into the 10pm news, especially when there is bad weather or sports news that feature only certain local teams but not others.

I guess right now it's the obsession over cell phones...like it's some marvelous invention. Just give me a stupid phone that I can call on and be called on...I don't need to surf the internet from a two inch square screen that I wouldn't be able to see if I tried! AND I don't need a stupid camera on my phone and I hate...absolutely HATE to text! When I see people walking through the mall or wherever texting and not even watching where they are going...I just want to go up to them and knock that stupid phone across the mall...RANT OVER...

At this moment in time, I'd have to say subliminal online bullying by two posters. Not on this board though. It's so subliminal no one notices it but me unless they follow these two around.

No clue what to do. Ignoring it just sticks in my craw! lol

    Oh, geez, where to start?

News bumpers and TV shows with their teasers 5 or 6 times during the show. Coming up next, Rona Bassethound barks up a tree... and of course it's not the next item, they run that same thing 3 or 4 times during a 1/2 hr news program, which is about 18-20 minutes after commercials.

People with head, tail or brake lights out and then get huffy when you tell them about it.

Mumbling instead of speaking clearly. Grammar gets me too. And it's usually the "more educated schooled" that are the worst.

Telemarketers, and now that the nice weather is here, the door to door scammers.

Silly abbreviations for people the writer supposedly cares about. I absolutely refuse to refer to my daughter as a bra size.

People who complain about gas prices going up, but never say anything when they go down.

To tag along with the make a long story short (which btw, I usually just say "too late!") how about if I could be frank with you... You can be Fred, Herman or DaisyMae as far as I'm concerned... and how about the "I could care less", comment to which I usually respond that's where we differ, I could *not* care less.

People who have to shout all the time on the forums. And put 10 exclamation points after every stupid thing they say.

The proverbial I'll call you back, or I'll stop over, and of course they don't. Don't say it if you're not gonna do it. That's a contract AFAIC.

Two new things at the stores now: Instead of the cart in the middle of the aisle, they leave it 1/3 of the way across and then stand on the other 1/3 mark so it's completely blocked. And the ones who leave their carts blocking the end of the aisle and walk down the aisle browsing. I take their cart occasionally and move it into the pharmacy area (if it's not full of frozen or refrigerated stuff.) Good luck finding it.

Tooters. The one who have to show off they have a remote for their door locks and they won't shut off the horn tooting. Lose your ego and lock the doors at the car.

Talk shows, "reality" shows and about 90% of the other stuff on TV these days. And people *pay* to have 700 channels of garbage?

Blister pack packaging that requires a chain saw to open.

Phone support. Of course the endless menu systems but then they could have at least told me I had to learn a foreign language to understand the person who will be reading the script to me.

Conversational High-Fives: High-fiving at any time other than when one is actively playing a sport.

    I guess that's enough for now... :)

folks that check out a full buggy of groceries in the 10 items or less line. Last week a lady just about ran over me to get in the line, buggy full of groceries, I pointed to the 10 item or less. Her response to me, oh that's just a suggestion of the number of items. Oh , well, what can you do.

Hallngarden...wouldn't it be great to be able to say "well, I SUGGEST you get in another line! LOL

Sleeperblues, you beat me to it. I really get perturbed over people who think just because they're driving the speed limit, the can stay in the left-hand lane.

Jannie, I, too get annoyed after viewing a movie and they speed run the credits in a small square to the side, so small that you can't see who played what.

Jannie, I'm sorry but I just had to laugh when I read your comment about holding your purse in your teeth in a public restroom. Now THAT's a visual, I tell ya! LOLOLOL!

    Two main peeves:

Cell phoners who are addicted to checking their e-mail, text messages, voicemail or internet every 15 minutes. I think they must get some sort of adrenaline rush from it. Ignoring everyone around them - I really think it's become an addiction, like gaming, for some.

Second is poor spelling and grammar. I can understand the odd typo when you're in a rush, but truly, some of the written communication I've seen on the internet is genuinely shocking. It's no wonder we are no longer educationally competitive with many countries.

Well, there. I feel better, so thanks for asking :)

People who continually whine about every little trivial thing!Sheesh!

The only things I could think of right now are job related. Family members who ask you twice in the room when you're admitting a patient, what time they are going to surgery. Then call an hour later and ask me the same question. The answer was "no" all three times. Or how about when they don't like your answer so they go and ask someone else, who tells them the exact same thing.

People who lean on, lay on, sit on a clean bed meant for other patients. The bed is up high with a card on it stating that it's cleaned for the new patient and some family member of another patient has the nerve to sit on it or throw their crap all over it. I've found purses, dirty clothes, candy or other food wrappers on them. Which means more work for housekeeping and more waiting time for new patients waiting for a clean bed.

Family members or patients who come to your hospital and complain as soon as they arrive, about whatever. Recently, a couple was complaining that we were cheap for only having 2 tvs in the room of a 4 bed room. I thought about telling them that "we" had just spent probably thousands of dollars on brand new flat screen tvs and satellite service, but didn't. There are people who come over and over and gripe about the care they get, why do you keep coming back then?

Oh, non job related: 45+ year old men in sporty car with Ohio plates, with overly loud (booming) stereo blasting while going through McD's drive thru, yelling out his order at the sign and then realizing his stereo was drowning him out. "Hey, man do you have those dollar menu items, ha ha ha...you know man those, blah blah blah." Up to the window to pay for his meal, stereo blasting again and yelling over his "music". Then at the window to pick up his food, yelling and laughing like a moron because he can't hear what the young kids are saying to him and they can't hear him. He never turned his stereo down again. When I got to the window I just had to ask them if that guy wasn't an idiot and both kids agreed with me. How do you get to be that age and behave like that?

College tuition. Why does it cost $43,000 or more a year to go to some colleges? I don't get it. Maria brought home a brochure the school gave her with all the Kentucky colleges and tuition listed.

I can relate with kathgrdn - why is the cost of going to college so expensive? It makes no sense to me.

My work related gripe, a co-worker that constantly asks for help from the rest of us but won't give the help back. She asked for extra help every day this week and we decided to quit helping.

I don't really have any other gripe at the moment. I started my 10 day vacation so right now I have nothing to complain about :)

At the moment I am happy I don't live in an area devastated by natural disasters.....I am happy I am retired and happy with my DH of almost 49 years.
Tomorrow may be a different story.

Hm. Popular thread. Must be good therapy - let me try.

I am so agitated by rule breakers and folks apparently who are unawares of their environment. At Costco, you are supposed to leave your cart outside of the food order area. This woman tonight had an *empty* cart with her in line. What the heck? I felt like hollering PAY ATTENTION TO THE WORLD AROUND YOU. Then, when I heard her order, I realized she was special needs. I felt badly.

But I still get irritated by people who break rules.

You get into your car to pull out of your parking space and someone parks in front of you to "drop someone off" or "pick someone up'. That happens a lot a my work. Last week I honked my horn at a lady who always does that.

Debates/forums where everyone is talking at the same time.

    Politicians in general.

Rules that are bent for selective people.

Having to go to work on your day off for 1 hour in the middle of the afternoon.

People who play their car stereos so loud that you can hear it 4 cars away.

High pitched screaming from kids playing outside.

Service repairmen who show up 5 hours early without notice.

I was just reminded of this. People who have a disease or problem which is exacerbated by poor lifestyle choices. Say for instance, someone who has asthma and is having trouble breathing and takes a few puffs of their inhaler and smokes away. Then complains that they can't breathe. Or the severely overweight woman of childbearing years who smokes and cannot get pregnant and is devastated about it. Hello, doesn't take more than 2 brain cells to see how to fix the problem-lose weight and quit smoking. Then I'll be happy to listen to you complain.

In addition to most of the above, what irritates me is TV programs that put up a line of dialogue, in text somewhere on the screen. By the time I notice where it is, it is gone, and was in small text anyway. If they are going to help, because the background music/noise is so overwhelming you can't hear it, they could at least leave it up long enough and large enough to be seen and read.

And one more, any show that contains the ringing of a doorbell; seems like they all sound like mine, and I am half way to the door before I realize it is on TV.

Celebrity worship... I mean... has Paris Hilton done anything worthwhile besides being wealthy, young & thin.. but not terribly attractive?

Oh yes, celebrity worship. Definitely irritating. And related to that is the trend on some of the news programs to go on and on about which 'star' is pregnant, busted for speeding, breaking up with her boyfriend, drunk in public, etc. etc. When they start with all that stuff, I turn it off.

This is something I noticed because of all the bad weather recently. Most of the channels have a logo in the bottom right of the screen exactly where weather bulletins crawl when storms are in the area. You can't read the last word or two which is usually the affected county where I live.

weathermen or women who stand right in front of my county on the map and I can't see what is happening...like how much rain is coming or the temperture.

Weathermen or women who will go into great detail about the weather up in Canada but they never show what is happening in Mexico.

Weather Bug cameras.....I don't care about seeing a 10 second clip of the weather in some city that I do not live in.

People who use the term "fluffy" for fat. It doesn't make you any thinner. You're still fat.
That new fad of the Snooky bump that was started by the idiot from Jersey Shore. I can excuse it being copied by the teens, as they rarely have an original thought. But the adults have picked up on that style now, and looks ridiculous.
The term "it is what it is". So overused now.
The new way of spelling names. Amiee, Cindee, Ashlee, Emalee. They think they're being different, but actually, the old way of spelling them(Emily) is the more unique way now.
Don't get me started on texting. No one talks on the phone anymore. It's so impersonal.
I could be here all night, seriously.

Oh yes, the stupid phrases. "Agree to disagree", "my bad", "you gogirl" and others I have managed to forget.

And how about the station logos that have to be on everything now? Then affiliated stations put their logo in the other corner so if there is text put up, it's covered by the logos. They run a weather warning or news update and you can't see it because it's behind the logos. To say nothing of needing speed reading to read the jumbled mess of words their putting up anyway. Doesn't bother me that much since I'm a fast reader but between that and oh yeah, don't forget the stations' weather logos that have to come up and then the radar screen, which is nice, when not covered by something else.

And other... Now they're trying to get everyone to convert to 16x9 format TVs so they design the sets to that format, and then the weathercasters are cut off and all you see is a flailing arm and part of a leg. Not that I want to look at the buffoon standing in front of where I want to look anyway, but it still looks stupid.

While we're on newscasts... I don't care about your families, unless they're making news, weather or sports headlines. Quit talking about Gracie, Jimmy, Sam and Francesca. I don't want to hear that they threw up in the car. And a pregnant newscaster doesn't warrant a 7 minute piece covering the whelping. That's not news. That's what talk shows are for.

And husband and wife anchor teams should be outlawed.

Loud annoying music in so many chain restaurants and stores. I've been complaining for 8 years now and just keep being told that "corporate" makes that decision. One waitperson from Applebees said that it has to be kept at a certain level, and that if "corporate" comes in and it is below that level, there is he!! to pay. I go to the 2 nationally known home improvement stores, trying to do some figuring out of sizes, prices, measurements, etc. and can't even think with the music blaring. Can't hold a decent conversation in a restaurant.

We do tend to gravitate more to local businesses as they have control over this very sore issue and they seem to really CARE that the customer is comfortable doing having a meal/conducting business.

Mom is dying. All of a sudden people who couldn't have bothered with her for years while she was alive want to parade in and say goodbye. If we didn't invite you or you haven't seen mom for a long time - why do you want to see her deathly ill? Send a card or note, keep her good memories close to your heart and stroll on by. I was invited to visit my uncle who was dying of lung cancer and wish I hadn't gone. I would rather remember him as he was before the ciggies took him.

It bugs me and happens everyday on the Today show. The news anchors talk about some horrible tragedy and then say "On a lighter note" Go to a commercial and let that do the break for you. "On a lighter note" doesn't cut it after someone's kid is found murdered and you cut to a swimsuit clip.

Why on earth do we need music at the gas pumps, music in the Goodwill. If I want music at the gas pump, I have a radio.
Speaking of the Goodwill. Would Wal-Mart stay in business if all the clothing sizes were mixed on the rack? You handle them anyway - hang them up on a "sized" rack.

Why, when you have a cell phone plan for 2 years and want to upgrade, it costs you (the loyal customer) more to upgrade than the person just getting a phone. I'll miss you Sprint...

I hate being accused of cheating in a word game (that someone here posted - sorry, can't remember who now) because I play words that they haven't heard of before.

We grew up studying books by mostly English authors so my vocabulary is going to be a little bit different. I mean, how many know what top and tail means when it comes to preparing food?

    I do, Zeetera!

LOL Mary!! We had to learn ridiculous stuff like that in my third year of school. I've used it over the years so I guess some things stick. I've never seen it printed anywhere else besides in that one book we had to read.

Talking to someone in customer service that has an overseas accent so heavy, I can't understand what they are saying. Often, they don't understand me either.

Second irritation. People who litter their cigs all over the ground. Done with your cig? Don't throw it on the ground a squish it. ick, That's disgusting!

LOL Zeetera I use obscure terms and words no one else knows too. I know "top and tail" Graham Kerr the Galloping Gourmet said it while I was watching his show so long ago. I learned it then and it has stuck. The funny thing is I hadn't heard the term in years and only a few times some time back. Very recently I was watching another well know cooking show and the Chef used the term top and tail. The gals watching with me didn't know it. I have only heard Chefs say it.

My husband is English, and we have lots of English friends. Every English person who cooks uses those terms.

Mary_C That makes sense. Graham Kerr is English and the chef I heard use it recently was reared in England and attended her 1st culinary school there.
I do have English friends and have never heard them use the top and tale term even while cooking and actually doing the deed. LOL But then I have heard them use other terms that will make people look puzzled.
