Hi All,

I wanted to make sure that everyone saw on the other KBIS post that Mamadadapaige's GW kitchen won first place. Her kitchens continue to inspire us all!

Kudos to mamadadapaige! I love the feel of her kitchen. Can't help feeling proud that it is one of OUR gardenweb kitchens :)

Just read this and ran out to get a picture while there was a little light. It's still a flash picture, but that shows up where I hacked back a few branches. Mine is "out back" (behind my yard) in what's technically a commons area. But the area isn't mowed, and would be all garlic mustard, Canada thistle and other invasives if left alone. So I try to pull weeds and plant when I can, but keep it looking very wild so I don't upset anyone. That's a massive boulder behind it The ESV is probably about 5' tall. I got it years ago (5? 8?) but have moved the poor thing quite a few times.

The workers cherry picked among my things (with permission), and then Habitat chose what they wanted. They did like my cabinets, and they told me the same thing someone above said: They only want cabinets with backs that are stable (I assume for storage, so they can be stacked), and only took the uppers because they went with the lowers. They did take the perfect condition blinds and hood, but nothing else. I was able to find homes for everything in the end, except the oven which doesn't work quite right and looks bad too. That went to recycling. If you have a safe way to do it, you can try Freecycle for anything that the thrift stores won't take. Just do it away from your house (big box parking lot is good) because people go through the listings looking for job sites to rob. OTOH, the person who meets you in the parking lot is grateful to get something usable for free. Some places also have free markets where everybody just brings their stuff and take home what they need from other people's stuff. Awhile back, when I redid some bathroom fixtures (some very weird ones in perfect shape came with the house), one of the plumber's helpers knew a place where they could use them (I think it was a charity in Mexico). Yeah, you can get a donation form for your taxes from Habitat or other thrift stores, but you can always find someone who can use stuff that's in decent condition if you just keep asking who wants it.

I have the same pot you just won. There are only 2 of us and I love it. I make oatmeal for several days, hard and soft boil eggs that peel easily and make meals in a fraction of the time. I have made Chicken Paprikash, pot roasts, chicken legs, and just this morning a large batch of strawberry compote that I then canned for the shelf. (Out of freezer room) Soups that take hours are done in 20 minutes, like a navy bean (no soaking the beans), minestrone and beef vegetable. Pasta is done in 4 minutes and no steaming up the kitchen either. And it makes the best cheesecake and yogurt too! Facebook has an Instant Pot for beginners site that is wonderful. They answer any question and will provide links to recipes. Also, your model is not being recalled, only the slow cooker version is to be returned to Walmart.

This is why: " Wagner said the total amount of entries must reach a minimum number, and if the home sells before the contest closes, all entrants will be refunded. " At the end of the day if the asking price is not achieved through the entries fees received, she will cancel the lottery. In a way it is no different than buying a lottery ticket where you have a 1 in 68,000 chance of winning.

Congrats. Mamadapaige. Your kitchen is, indeed, lovely. I had somehow missed the reveal, so I'm glad there was a link included that directed me there. What a well thought out design--love it.

Wow! First Place! Congratulations to mama! Very well earned and well deserved. That is one incredible kitchen that overcame some initially daunting odds, and that makes the prize even sweeter!

Mamadadapaige's kitchen is one of my very favorites ever, but for me it is the synergy of great style and working within the demands of an eccentric, imperfect space that make a terrifically appealing...more.

This kitchen has something else the typical open rectangle, including mine, can't offer--mystery. What's down those steps, and what's around those corners? Seriously. I mention it because I want more mystery here. I don't like driving by or walking in and seeing everything there is in one glance.

I am sorry I missed it last summer (I was too busy with a new job). Just saw on Houzz that it won the prize. I remember how she was trying to get it done on time to enter the competition and the challenges she was facing.
