Can anybody recommend a bronzey/coppery tone of paint?

Hello all, I posted a just few months back with pictures of my north facing FR to find a wall paint color that would help warm the room up. I wanted to keep the color light because of the northern exposure, but without looking yellow as this is not really part of my color scheme. Well, I hate to say I have not had a lot of luck with the paint samples I brought home. Many of the cream and tan samples I have tried on the wall still look a little too yellow or sometimes dreary if more on the tan side. Based on the colors in the oriental rug, I am wondering if a paint that leans toward a bronze or copper tone might work.

Can anyone recommend a paint that might fall in these color shades? As a continuing issue with paint selection in this room, the northern light exposure always seems to impact what would be a beautiful color in some other light exposure.

Its actually a tough call -- because you may have to layer in the color and then top it with a glaze -- perhaps a metallic one. I haven't done a glaze but others here might know all the details .....

Oil-rubbed bronze is a deep rich brown/black over a base of darkened gold.

Copper -- more of a pinky red to orange over a base of gold.

Bronze -- Check colors like Sherwin Williams "Relic Bronze" (#6132) which is more of a browny-gold. And SW's "Eminent Bronze" (#6412) which has a greenish-brown cast to it.

There are better painters and color experts than me here -- and they might have a better way to achieve that color .....

Thanks Teacats. Actually, I don't want to create a complicated paint process with glazes. I just hope to find a light tan or neutral colored paint with the copper/bronze overtones so it won't look yellow. I will check out the SW paint colors you recommend.

I live in the NE and we sided our house with fiber-cement a couple years ago. I knew I wanted white, but which one??? I drove my husband and the contractor crazy with my umpteen sample boards. A lot of the colors that were recommended to me (SW alabaster, SW snowy owl) came off as gray or beige. Everyone told me I wouldn't want a true white because it would be too blinding, but I knew I didn't want gray/beige. I ended up going with Sherwin Williams Picket Fence - it's one of their discontinued Martha Stewart colors, so you probably can't get a chip (they can still mix a sample quart for you). It's white with a little bit of gold, just enough to offset the blueish cold tones that white can have but not enough to make it read anything except pure white. It's been up for almost 3 years now and I've been very happy with it - never any sort of regret, and believe me, I'm the queen of "I wish I had chosen XXX instead" when it comes to paint colors. Thanks for the pictures, that top pic of the black and white damask is what I was envisioning. Although I also do love how peaceful and romantic the simple white linen looks. That pic you choose is one of the rooms that I kept going back to with paint selection, the one that made me sample the rainwashed. Plus I have that same duvet cover! And ikea has white linen panels for $49 per pair. Guess the question is if I want something more for pop or for calm. We had a contractor came by tonight to bid for moving the light switch, so I'll be getting my rearrangement in a week or two! I'll have to go scope out fabric options in the meantime!

I've only used EK paint one time (Giverny Blue) and ordered it directly from Ellen after a lovely, accidental, Saturday morning phone conversation. It is very nice paint. DH commented on this as well, although neither one of us enjoys painting with it as much as we do with Farrow and Ball. The EK paint is on the wall above the boot-putting-on bench in the mud room and has withstood the clanging, hanging dog leashes, gardening hats, back rubbing, mud splashing, you name it extraordinarily well. EK recommended and sent the paint in Velvet Sheen--shinier than is my usual preference--but I am very pleased with it. It did have considerably more odor than F&B, which is what is on the other walls in that room. As to the color, it has fascinating permutations, most of which I like, some of which I adore, and one or two of which run to the Disney/harsh edge. (The DSes have been known to harrumph that Mom is watching paint dry, again.) The light that hits it comes from the north and slightly east, influenced by some trees. Years ago, I attempted a paint purchase at an ICI store. The personnel were oriented toward professional painters who specify an order and come pick up the paint. No discussion of color, texture, etc. possible, and no experience with EK. I wouldn't be surprised if that varies greatly from store to store, as has been my experience with Sherwin-Williams branches.

Anybody growing Pseudolithos?

Thanks, Pagan and ewwmayo :-) I love my little blobs; I'm not sure why I find Pseudolihos so intriquing. Are they grown for their beautiful growth habit? uh, no. Beautiful flowers? Nope, again. Maybe it's their fragrance? Not unless your favorite perfume is eau de dead mouse. So far I've head good luck with mine (knocking on wood and crossing my fingers). I grow them under lights on a heating mat in the winter, and in the summer they're in the greenhouse so I can keep them out of the rain and close the door to keep them warm if the nights are really cool. The little ones get watered about once every 7-10 days, and my bigger one gets watered about once every 2-3 weeks. After it's been watered it feels hard, like a golf ball. I water it when it starts having a tiny bit of give when i feel it. I've had that one for 4 years now. Pagan, good luck with yours. The top part doesn't look as deflated as the bottom, so, hopefully, it's on the road to recovery. Right now I want to grow my little blobs until they're bigger, but I'll let you know if I want to get rid of any. Hopefully I don't kill them. Here's a pic of my bigger one now. Good God it grows slowly!

Take a look at Benjamin Moore's Classic Colors series 981 - 987 (lightest to darkest). I used Cedar Key and Smokey Taupe (982 & 983) and they are pinkish-beiges, but not enough pink to look "pink".

I did a quick seasrch by inputting "copper" and lots of colors came up. Take a look, maybe something might strike you as a color you had in mind. Lots of pretty choices! Thyere are so many brands, I'm sure you will find one. Good luck!

I have not seen any of these colors in real life but I always wanted to try the Ralph Lauren Metallics. Do any of these look like what you were thinking? I like the one they call Golden Light.
