How cool is that! Good call with the 4 y/o! Who are G&P?

Thanks :) G is me and P is my DH. That was my little piece of the floor. My DH went crazy with spray paint and 'tagged' the rest of the room. LOL!

We just celebrated our 16th anniversary. We picked out some cute little swirly accent tiles for the backsplash and decided there needed to be 16 of them to represent each year.

It's been fun to personalize some of our choices that way!

This is so great! Be sure you take full pics before all the beautiful artwork gets covered up! Also, I love the idea of the sixteen tiles! And just something else that struck me... I like how you put those hearts over your boys' faces. :)

Our floors have been delayed a day, since there was a problem with the boards, new ones delivered and now acclamating to the house temps. They will install tomorrow and then cabinets!!!
Keep up the fun and games as we go thru this...and as you said, this too shall pass, hopefully with some great memories!!! You will alsways know of the great artwork, hidden masterpieces, as you walk on your new floors! Cheers!

Oh, and before any flooring goes down make sure to have the kids lay down on the floor and trace them. Then write their names, date, and age in side of each. You may never see those again, but someone down the road will find them and think how fun it is to see "who" lived here before!

We did that before carpeting was replaced in an old house. And even in the last kitchen the kids did it before the cork went down. Kinda fun! A time capsule of sorts.

luvhome - thanks! We are a retired military family and we have never really had a home to put our mark on. It's been fun to personalize things this way!

clarygrace - Thanks! Must be a bad week for floors. We are having a problem with ours too. I hope it's not a huge problem, but at least I have my GC on my side. Time to fight another battle. :/ Hopefully, if there's enough usable wood, my kitchen floors go in Friday and cabinets Tuesday or so!

I put my flower right where I will stand to prep and wash dishes - a little something to smile about as I work. :)

How fun! Love that you'll have a flower where you'll be standing at the sink. Looks like everyone had a blast and, you're right, they'll remember it forever. When I was a kid, must have been around 7 or 8, my mom let us write all over the walls before she painted. We had such a blast drawing silly pictures and writing messages. I still remember it and I won't even begin to tell you how many years ago that happened! lol

waterdamage - Thanks! Saw your comment on the other thread about warning the kiddos. I triple warned them that the contractor might write on their drawings or sit stuff on them and, of course, eventually we won't be able to see them. They told me they understood. But when my 12 year old came home today with an air compressor on his picture, he was still a little miffed! ;)

Poohpup - That sounds like a great memory. Sometimes it's hard to remember to stop and make the crazy times fun in some way. It makes all the difference in the world!

Boy...this took me back to the sixties when my mom remodeled our kitchen and before the new wallpaper went up she let me and my friends write crazy stuff all over the walls...hope subsequent owners got a chuckle when they took the wallpaper down....

In a former house, when we took down the paneling we found that whomever put it up had "written" the family members' names with the glue, instead of using squiggles. It was so enchanting! We took pictures of the names before scraping the glue off prior to painting. Even now, 25+ years later when we look at the old pictures, we smile when we see the ones with the names.

The bonus was that the house was in a neighborhood with families who had lived there for many years. Some of the neighbors were able to tell us a bit about the family living in "our" house when the paneling had been installed.

joaniepoanie - What a great memory! It would have been fun to be a fly on the wall when the paper came down!

kashmi - that's a great story. I told the boys that a 100 years from now, somebody that didn't know us is going to find their paintings and know a little about us. They thought that was pretty amazing. :)

oh what great fun! and leaving your mark on the place to someday be uncovered by another family.

it's also a great way to involve the kids. They have to live thru the mess and disruption w/o much (if any) input into what is happening.

Oh WOW - what an awesome idea! Wish we had thought of that while our whole house was under reno! We are doing a small little bed/bath in the basement right now though - so we literally WILL put our mark in the corner of the house. My 3 kids will have a blast with this!

Great idea! It's also fun with grown-ups. We use our remodeling projects to spice up our Halloween parties. When we knew we were going to paint the living room, we urged guests at "The Zombie Apocalypse" to write on the walls, and the notes all together created a great story line about which parts of town were safe, survivors who lost and then found friends and loved ones, and practical tips on how to deal with the zombie hordes. Last year, we gutted the kitchen just before setting up "Stage Fright," and left one section up for guests to write on the "Wall of Shame." Turned out something like what you would expect to see written on a bathroom stall in rock club. Everyone gets into it. Future homeowners will be SHOCKED at the horrors that happened in the house before them! *insert evil laughter*
