Anyone here turn in their used ink cartridges for cash?

I read that Staples and OfficeMax will take up to 10 cartridges per month and give $2-$3 credit for each one. Does anyone here use this trade in program? I am wondering if it would work for me. I would like to know more about how the program works. Thanks for any info you can give.

I have returned ink cartridges to Staples numerous times, and get a credit of $2.00 per cartridge. Since I'm a Premier member, I can turn in up to 20 per month...that translates to $40.00 in credits. Not too shabby!

So, if I took in 10 cartridges, could I buy $20 worth of stuff right then? And the cartridges count towards the cost? How does the program work?

I'm about to have a bunch of empty cartridges and I don't want
to just throw them away. Especially if they are worth something.

Credit to everyone who is trying to recycle their ink cartridges, but I still have concerns about these printers and their consumables. Ink jet printers are just plain hard on the budget and the environment, and the cartridges can't be refilled indefinitely, many only once and very few more than two or three times. Many applications don't really need an ink jet, I see lots of these printers being used in places where a laser or dot matrix would be much better suited to the job. Often people buy them because the initial printer cost is very low, frequently because it's heavily subsided by the expensive cartridges, sometimes the printer is sold for less than a full set of cartridges. However, when you consider the price of ink and special paper, it's multiple times cheaper to take your digital photographs or images to a shop and have them use their state of the art printer worth thousands to print them for you. No need to clutter up your house with another printer, no need to change cartridges or anything. Best of all it's not more work, you can either go out to the store to buy cartridges or you can go to the store to have your pictures printed. The only major difference is price and quality, both of which are better. Some places do it mail order or over the internet now, so you could have your prints sent to you. Of course some people do need a colour printer at home or in their office, there are genuine needs, but then it's fair to point out that the price of colour laser printers has dropped a lot now, and they're much better suited to high volume applications, but also don't dry up if not used for a while. They also work out much cheaper in the long term. Anyone who can justify their need for a high quality colour printer, for example a high volume of prints being made, can probably justify the initial expense of a colour laser as it will save them so much money in the long term.

I have found that this problem occurs because the carriage is in the wrong place. Use the following steps. Turn off the printer. open the door. If the carriage holding the cartridges does not rest at the proper place Ie where you can get the cartridges out then slide the cartridges to the correct place. Now shut the door and fire up the printer. You should not be asked to align

A lot depends upon the cartridge. Some are easy to refill, some are difficult and some are downright impossible to refill. I would try buying a small refill kit specifically for your cartridge, if one is available, so that you will have instructions as to how to go about refilling them and the syringes. Or you could dismantle one to see whether or not there is a bag inside. I refill my cartridges often and it is quite easy if done correctly. You may or may not be able to refill your black cartridge by drilling a hole in the top. That should work okay provided that there is not a bag inside. As for bulk ink I use re-inks.com. Their inks are very good, low priced($30 for a liter of black ink and $40 for a liter of color)and the service is exceptional. Smaller and larger quantities of ink are available. Good luck.

maime, There is nothing wrong with feeling relief. Death is a new beginning, not an ending, part of the circle of life. I'm sure she is happy, now. My Grandmother used to tell me that life was death, and death was life. I miss her horribly still after 20+ years and very grateful that she is no longer suffering the way she had before she passed on. She will always be a very important part of my life, and my children's & Grandchildren's, who never had the pleasure of knowing her as I had. Her memories are alive in everything that I do or the choices I make and will make in the future. Because of her, I am who I am, and I thank her for that till this day!

I, too, use the Staples ink cartridge return credit program. It's not an instant cartridge-for-cash return like it is for cashing in empty cans/bottles. The cartridges are accepted and credited to the program account you must open at Staples. Staples then sends a coupon within a month for $2/cartridge ...either via snail mail, virtual mail or in some cases, both methods...to the account owner and that coupon can be redeemed at the store as a cash credit towards anything you purchase. The coupon is valid for approximately 90 days. This is the procedure at my Connecticut store. I don't know if it's the same throughout all Staples stores. There may be some restrictions as to the brand or type of cartridge you present. I don't think they take off brand refillable cartridges but that may vary per store. It's a good program and worth checking out.

DH returns ours to Staples and gets credit on a cash card which can be used in store . I don't know if there is a limit on the number that can be turned in. We have had excellent customer service at Staples, unlike Office Depot!

I was just checking into this last week. I recently bought cartridges at WalMart. Will Staples give you credit for ink bought somewhere else? From what I read it kind of sounds like you have to purchase from their stores.

Our Staples will take empty cartridges purchased elsewhere. They don't accept "all" brands but most. I get a Rewards coupon in the mail and can turn in up to 10 cartridges a month.

I "was" having them emailed to me, but decided I shouldn't have to waste "my" ink to print them out, so now I have them mailed to me.

In answer to your question, Jodi...Staples has no way of knowing whether you purchased the ink from them. I, inadvertently, turned in a few Canon cartridges that I didn't buy from them. I received the $2/each credit. Normally, I buy all my ink at Staples and that's the purpose of the rebate program. Technically, one is getting a discount off the next purchase of ink.

I think the program is manufacturer sponsored through Staples. I know that my store has gone to great lengths with Canon to keep their pricing equal in all supplier stores in my area. BJ's carries all brands of printer ink...including Canon...and I recently made a point of noting that BJ's, Walmarts and Targets pricing is now equal to Staples shelf prices. With my return cartridge credits...I now get the Canon ink for less than shelf price and that's Staples goal.

I have a few brand name cartridges, but I have started using
re-manufactured cartridges from EZink @ Amazon.com

EZink cartridges=2 for $9.49 with free shipping

One HP cartridge @Walmart for $37.97 with free ship to store

It's easy to see which deal I would take.
So far I have used two of the EZ ink cartridges
and I have been very happy with them.
I have two more ordered.

I have a bunch of old printers sitting around here with the ink
cartridges still in them and I was hoping to trade them in if
they had any value. Guess I'll just recycle them.

My local veterinary office takes used ink cartridges which earns money for local animal charities. That is where I take all of mine, maybe your local vet has a similar program?

Sometimes the office supply store offer double the amount they usually pay out for ink cartridges when you spend $50 or more on ink.

Staples gives you $2, if does NOT matter where you bought them and they have never asked and I'm sure they don't care. You will have to wait for them to send you a store credit which can take quite a while. I think maybe they send it in an email now but I can't remember for sure. It used to come in the USPS mail.
