Comments (4)I bought some green plastic 'hardware cloth' from a home improvement store, and used it to line the basket. Then, put the coco liner inside of the hardware cloth. This kept the mass of dirt held together even after the coco starts to deteriorate. As for how to keep a plant thriving in these, I hope you have better luck than I did. Even watering 2x day barely keeps them moist. I think the only way to ensure they won't dry out is to find a way to water them automatically, such as drip irrigation on a timer. Good luck, -hydropetunia...See MoreReuse coco fiber liners in hayracks?
Comments (3)No issues :-) I have reused the same type of liner in my hanging baskets for multiple seasons. As long as the liner appears to be good condition - they do deteriorate over time - no reason NOT to reuse. The one possible exception would be if there were significant disease issues with container plants that might have infested liner with spores, etc. But that doesn't tend to be much of an issue with seasonal, flowering container plantings. And one can negate the implications of that just by spraying the liner with a household disinfectant....See MoreCoco Shell Liners.
Comments (1)I love the look of those liners. Berridge Nursery on Camelback usually has several sizes of inserts, and sheets, and the accompanying wire baskets, so they might be worth calling/visiting. I bought a really cheap wall-mounted coco-lined quarter-sphere planter this spring. I lined it with a plastic grocery bag with a few holes in it before planting it. That seems to help (a bit) with the post-water leaking, and it's helped a LOT with moisture retention for the plant. Let us know if you find a place you can recommend. What do you grow in your coco baskets?? I really do love that look. Take care, Grant Here is a link that might be useful: Berridge Nursery...See MoreCoco Liner in Cedar Planter
Comments (2)I am thinking coco liner wasn't the best choice. Keep a close eye on drainage. If you can puncture a few holes in the bottom somehow without damaging the roots much I would do so. For future reference you might try what I do which I learned from Al. I buy the semi- fine mesh screen that is used for window screening, etc. It comes in rolls at home depot for about 6 bucks. Allows good drainage but keeps the soil in. Matt...See MoreRelated Professionals
