I just ordered these postcards for the show that will open next month. I know it'll be a lot of fun, as was last year's, but this will be it for a while. The shows cost me a bundle!

I thought last year's was expensive (printing and framing), but this year I'm doing almost twice as many pictures, plus I want to have a reception at the June venue, and I'm going to have to pay for it myself. Not to mention the postcards, which will cost $100 to buy and mail. I'm not wringing my hands over thisÂI'll thoroughly enjoy the experienceÂbut I have to be realistic and not take on any commitments for next year.

But meanwhile, isn't this pretty? I can take credit for the petunia, but not the design of the card, which was done by a friend of mine. I'm delighted with it!

Thanks everyone, you all make me feel so good! Newbie in NJ, don't cross off the celosia...they still look great DESPITE being chewed on. You can't even tell until you get up close because they grow so densely the deer just can't keep up with the plants! I'll be growing them again next year, definitely! I had the same problem as you with most of my cosmos - except for a few bunches I had planted in front of some bushes. I guess the bunnies were too scared to get too close to whatever might jump out of the bushes to munch on them. Historically, I've not really been much of a gardener until about five years ago, but even then all of the stuff was store bought. Year before last, I tried to grow plants from seeds but it didn't work well. Then I found winter sowing and voila, I have a garden full of wonderful plants! All the nice plants in my garden are there thanks to all the folks who shared their experiences with me through this forum! Thanks again!

I am so envious! Beautiful yard, beautiful house and beautiful dogs. Lovely beyond words. I tell you what. All of you with your picture perfect gardens puts mine to shame. I am not posting anymore pictures of my simple gardens! I had a Dalmatian/Great Dane named Benny. I told people he was a "Damnation". He scared everyone who came to our house, especially the meter readers. He was beautiful and so playful, like a Dane, but had the not-so-friendly-strangers-personality like Dalmatians. A great guard dog for me. Poor Benny died of kidney failure at age 5. I believe it was the result of being bit by a gigantic copperhead. He developed complications afterward and the kidneys failed. He loved to go for rides in the truck, sitting up tall in the cab and looking out. He HAD to go for a ride every day. What a character. I took him for his final ride, having to lift him up into the cab and by the time we got home, he could not walk. He was miserable and suffering. The next day, I took him to the vet. My poor Benny. I love your Great Dane. He has just a beautiful coat coloration. I love how they are big, playful pups. A great breed of dog. Thanks for sharing all. ~Annie

Melissa,very nice,you have done a lot of hard work,and great planting, as you have moved forward,not always easy to do,just look at how big every thing had gotton in such a short amount of time.Thanks for sharing this with us,always so much fun to see what others have done,and the progress they have made,yours is great. Those warm temps and dry air are really encouraging the mites -- but they're encouraging flowers too! I have some plumerias under lights in the basement, and several are still blooming. I thought that by keeping the lights at under 11 hours they wouldn't bloom, but they are anyway. I'd rather they bloom in the summer. Perhaps the warmth (about 75 degrees) in combination with lights and no cool-down at night are keeping them blooming? Any ideas on how I can discourage blooming? I can't cool the room any more than it is. Do you think I should reduce the light period even more? What's frustrating is I have a seedling that has its FIRST INFLOS -- FOUR of them! And I know they're just not going to bloom well.

An artist asked me the other day about the theme of the show. I told her the title, and then I said this is where you separate the amateurs from the pros. I'm definitely an amateur. The pros would stick to their theme, paying careful attention to what is included. I, on the other hand, see something I like and say, "Oooh, that can go in the show!" LOL

I chose the title, "In the Details," because I have a serious interest in macro photography, and the theme really is about sharing nature's details we often don't see, or pay attention to. However, I also threw in a couple of trees and a friend's eye. (Well, I guess the eye could be considered a detail.)

I also put more emphasis this time on how plants look in winter: dried seed pods, etc.

I'll take some pictures of the pictures after they're hung.

Thanks again! Now, if someone could advise me on how much wine to buy......

I was going to ask if we are going to get to see your pictures this year but you already answered that question! Am looking forward to seeing them as last year's shots were very well done.
As for the wine, I would plan for 2 glasses per guest and plan for 1/2 red and 1/2 white drinkers. Those boxes of wine are likely the best buy - Wiki Answers says a 3L box of wine pours 16 to 24 glasses, depending on the glass size.
That might give you some sort of idea of what to buy...

Beautiful photo...I love macro photography. I just purchased my first DSLR and am saving for a macro lens. Wishing you the best for your show, I have no doubt it will be a hit.

I think that possibility is rather remote. LOL When I priced last year's pics, a couple of artist friends protested that I was "giving them away." However, only three sold. I can blame the economy, rather than my photography. :-)

Yup.....and the woman in charge of the venue recommended boxed wine, too. But I'm incapable of buying it. LOL (Lindsey, are you reading this?) So I've been out looking for decent wines at bargain prices. It's fun actually (except for the paying part). The thing is, I have absolutely no clue how many people will show up. Even among my close friends, some might be traveling at the time. So it's hard impossible to say. Oh, well, all we can do is give it our best shot.

Taigen, have fun with your new camera. I know you will!
