Everything I have ordered from Bluestone has died within a month or two. Will never order from them again. Just a warning that that is my experience.

That's a shame. I've heard they'll send replacements, but I don't blame you for choosing another supplier. I've ordered many kinds of plants from them and haven't lost one yet.

Alisand, you bet we placed our order.....we give each other a nice order every year as an early anniversary gift. On our list was Agastache, Eryngium, Miscanthus, Penstemen, Salvia (Friesland), couple of kinds of Sedum, and some shorter than usual Solidago. Oh, and a couple different daylilies.

We placed our order a while back....when the sale first started and they arrived in beautiful shape. Tell me if you think that the plants are bigger this year.

I did not order from Bluestone this year. I just don't have a place to plant one more thing, and it's killing me!!! I have always been very pleased with my Bluestone plants. My yard has 100's that came from there.

Alisande, A few of the older Hostas have fragrant flowers. Many of the hybrids parentage includes H. plantaginea which has very large white, highly fragrant blooms. I really like H plantaginea's light green leaves and the scent is heavenly. Also, slugs aren't a problem with this old cultivar as it holds it's leaves up off the ground. Rhizo, Salvia East Friesland is a great plant, much better (in my opinion) then the popular, more available, May Night.

Rhizo, the hostas are larger than what I expected, but these are the first hostas I've ordered from them. They look great. The hydrangea is smaller than the ones I've gotten from Park's, but I expect it to take off quickly once it establishes some roots. I haven't planted it yet......need to find some chicken wire to protect it for this season.

Gazania, thanks for the link. Good to know deer prefer the fragrance! LOL I just took a picture of a hosta I've had for 10 years.......it came out of a friend's garden before she moved away. It's so pretty, and I have no idea what it is. I'll post later......maybe you'll know.

When Amber was still living at home she used to order lots from them.

alisande, what do you concoct with chicken wire to protect your hostas? i have ordered some hostas that i should protect since we get a lot of deer in our yard eating the seed i put out for the birds. :)

I'm really surprised at the bad luck you've had with Bluestone Perennials too, walnutcreek. I order from them every year and always have excellent results. I hope when you try them again, you'll be pleasantly surprised!

I did order from their sale this year, alisande. I ordered several delphiniums and Centaurea.

And about the plant size... Bluestone always shipped small plants, at a very low price. But once they were planted, they sure took off and grew fast! I've always loved both the plants and the prices. Then, a year or so ago, I read that Bluestone was responding to customer wishes to ship larger plants. Then, this year, I realized their normal prices were about double what they used to be. I assumed that was to cover the cost of the larger plants. I believe the sale prices this year are about the same as normal prices were in previous years. But, I am expecting that I will get much larger plants then in the past. I'm looking forward to their arrival next week!

Lindalou, I don't protect my hostas, and so far I've lucked out. The deer are probably too busy eating my hydrangeas, phlox, and roses. This year I'm going to invest in more Liquid Fence, and try to remember to be faithful about applying it.

I make a circle of chicken wire, supported with three stakes, to protect shrubs from rabbits in their first year.

I haven't ordered. I'm trying to save money by not buying any more plants for a while. I vowed to buy no more perennial flower plants, just keep the ones I now have alive. It will require an awful lot of weeding! I've had good past experiences with Bluestone. They send plants in sets of three.So if one dies, they'll send you three more. And you now have 5 plants!

Placed an order last night for four Delosperma Cooperi and three Sedum Blade Runner. Am anxious to get them and plant.

Gazania, I have other salvia and love them all...I really like the looks of East Friesland and am so glad I got them.

Walnutcreek, do you have any delosperma already? If not, you're going to love it! Full sun, blazing heat, spreads like crazy to form a solid mat of green and pink....I just love it. And I don't think that there's a sedum I don't like.

rhizo, I agree about the sedums; they are just so great. For the most part, those are what I ordered from Bluestone that did not last at all - it had to have been a fluke of nature.

I do have one delosperma (I believe it is anyway) - in fact I thought it was the same as the one I ordered. However, the description by Bluestone says it is evergreen and mine always dies back in the late fall/early winter. So, will have to wait and see how they compare to each other.
