You could just get the Intelliflo 4x160 and the Intellicomm module. It will let your Jandy controller select any one of the four preset speeds that you program into the pump. The downside is that you will need to use an output circuit for each speed that you want to control.

Aside from that, I doubt that the Jandy will "talk" to the Intelliflo the same way that the Intellitouch does.

What is an Intellicom module? I assume it translates Pentair talk into Jandy talk? When you say "output circuit for each speed" are you referring to the number on circuits on the panel. Say a panel comes with 9 AUX's or circuits; are you saying it would require 4 of the 9 to operate the 4x160? In theory the Jandy thinks it's talking to 4 different pumps that each has their own speed when in reality there is one pump that has 4 speeds. Is this accurate?

Do you have any opinion on the Pentair Intellitouch?

The IntelliFlo will communicate directly through the RS485 cable to an IntelliTouch. Any other system requires the IntelliCom which is an interface that communicates through a function on the pump called EXTERNAL CONTROL. EX CONTROL basically takes any electric signal and activates a preprogrammed function 1-4 on the pump. Thus, 4 speeds. With the 3.2kw, you still get all the additional features it offers but it works with the 4x160 as well. The common installations require one AUX relay for each of the 4 speeds you set up. So, if you buy an RS8, you have wiped out 4 right there.

If you can wait a year, sure, Jandy will allow the pump to plug directly into their new board. You may consider the Pentair Easy Touch as it will not require the IntelliCom. Techs do have the ability to tweak installations on the IntelliFlos with Jandy as there are other places to hook into that do not use a relay. You basically need any DC output that can be controlled from the panel sockets.

Valves are all the same and will work on any system. The Jandy valve is far better from a set up standpoint if you need to adjust them but they come at a price premium over others.

The IntelliTouch is not dated. It is a great system that is probably one of the best out there. You may consider a Jandy PureLink that will give you automation and salt. The new LXi is an awesome heater. I'd take it over the Pentair anyday.

After talking to the Home Automation team I'm leaning to the Jandy RS8 one touch controller with extra palm hand held, Jandy Home Automation Module (Serial Adapter) and the Pentair Intellicom module to control the 4x160. Is there any reason to upgrade to the 3.2 pump? What are the main benefits of the 3.2?

How much does a Intellicom module usually cost? Will I need to chew through 4 of the AUXs or can I use the filter pump circuit and 3 AUXs with the Intellicom module?

Lastly what is so special about the LXI? My sales guy also seems to think it's one bad mo fo.

I think from a homeowner standpoint, the LXi is nothing difft. It's a technical thing. From that point, it is a superior unit.

There's not much you can say beyond that. For us, the fewer call backs on a unit the better and the confidence to install that way unlike with Hayward, Pentair, etc, goes a long way.

The IntelliCom will use the primary pump circuit plus 3 others. Depending on your system, there are other options to connect. It should add about $400-450.

You'll hear a lot here about the 4x160 being sufficient, but I disagree. If it was, there would be no need for the 3.2. Main benefit of 3.2 is that it is flow driven and not rpm. You have 4 pre-sets on the 4x160 that can be set anywhere you want. The 3.2 will adjust on demand to increments of 15rpm based on flow settings and therefore will always be dialed in to the most optimum speed maintaining flow. There are many other safety/protective features built in as well.

Solar is solar heating and the automated systems ability to control it. It valves and therefore, has a circuit that can be used.

Does the Solar work well in Texas during the winter? Who makes the Solar products? What's the rough cost? I find it fascinating that no one ever mentions Solar in Texas even though we get a ton of sunlight... I assume Solar is more popular in the colder climates...

I forgot to ask... What's the better cartridge filter, Jandy or the Pentair Clean & Clear? I need one of the big daddies that has 4 filters. I'd like the best cleaner and the one that is the most efficient. Hopefully cleaning and replacement costs are the same between the two options.

Could not answer a regional question like your solar without livng there.

My filter decisions go this way.

1. If you're the type to do your own filter cleaning, you want the Pentair as the tank lid is easy on/off.

2. If you hate to spend money, the Hayward tank is for you. Example, the tank o-ring is about three times the cost on a Pentair, but it is easy to work on. The Hayward lid is a major pain for the unindoctrinated.

3. Jandy is good, but in our area at least, it's hard to find a good stock on their filter parts. I've waited days for their funky, not quite round, tank o-ring and trying to get a grid manifold is impossible.

A cartridge is a cartridge once you get to it. Spend the extra $125 and go with a 500 sq ft if you have a lerge pool. You won't regret it.

Avoid Sta Rite as those are just absurd when it comes to cost and functionality.
