What is y,our routine, Salgal? I might jut take you up on your offer.

Currently I am doing physical therapy for pain related, to a hip replacement 2 years ago., Walking, weight training etc

Hi Sidnee,
I have been pretty faithful for the last few months at logging my meals, trying to stay within my calorie allotment.
I also wear my fitbit every day and try to get more than 7500 steps.
Now that spring is here, I should be able to walk at lunchtime and also partake of a fitness bootcamp twice a week at my church.
I try to ride my stationary bike when I can at night. (not very consistent with that)
I also work with a personal trainer every Saturday. That, along with my food diary keeps me pretty on track.

I have lost 14 pounds since January.
I think I will be happy with 10 more pounds as long as I keep getting stronger.

I have a bulging disc in my back which has been my main source of inspiration to get fit and lose weight.

I just wanted to say that it's so inspiring to come here and read about everyone's efforts. We all have our down days but I know it helps me when I have some accountability to someone other than myself. I don't normally share my exercise highs/lows with others IRL (except dh and my exercise partners), and I don't normally "brag" about what I may have accomplished. But having a chance to share it with others here (who don't know me IRL) who are doing the same thing is a way to keep myself encouraged and accountable. And when I'm not feeling especially motivated, it's nice to come read a thread such as this one and see what everyone else is doing and think, gee, just go DO something. Hhireno, thanks for continuing to post these threads - and you are so kind to respond to each and every one with thoughtful words of encouragement and affirmation. Bethpen, I'm sorry that you are feeling so much stress and hope that you can find ways to cope. Baby steps are good, any step is good! If you can't find time to exercise, then do simple things like park as far as possible from where you are going rather than right near the door, take the stairs. And if you can find the time, try to make at least a few make ahead meals that are healthy so you can bring them with you up to NH so that you aren't relying on carb-heavy meals while you are there. I have a couple of good chicken recipes that are fairly easy (one is a Greek marinade that you can quickly make, put the chicken in a ziploc bag and freeze then take with you and then it's already for baking or grilling when it's meal time). If you are interested, I can post it here or email it to you. My friend just emailed me a bunch of recipes from a Bikini boot camp class she took - most are very easy and tasty. (I'm making one for dinner tonight - turkey lasagna with eggplant as the noodles). I'm sure you probably have plenty of healthy recipes...it's just making the time, I know!

Outside, you've been doing great! I think it's so neat that you had your goal for your run, stuck to it, made it a family event, and just keep going, going, going! Joanie, I understand! Strangely, I had it in my mind (for years) that exercise for the sake of exercise was indulgent. My mom always thought exercise should be natural, but we don't (I don't) live natural lives! I think of my dad, who was thin, but died from (untreated) heart disease at 60. I think of my mom, who, aside from walking, has not done weight-bearing exercise. She is thin and eats great, but I am scared if she falls. It would be life-changing if she broke a bone. I now realize that an investment like this in myself is for OTHERS, too-- for my husband, my kids, etc. I am really getting more and more concerned for my husband. He is thin, but his eating habits are awful and he does not exercise. He has signs of cholesterol issues in his EYES and he is only 41. It really has so little to do with appearance. This is about not being dependent on others, and just taking care of what we have to the best of our abilities. If you don't take care of you, how will you be there for your DH? I think it is fantastic that you have taken those first steps to invest in your future and am so glad you are here!!! Amj, that warms my heart! Yay!!! Daisy, I used to be a teacher. Big hugs to you. I need to go back to work eventually, but the thought of being a teacher now is terrifying. I loved it when I did it . . .it consumed me! Things are constantly changing, and sadly, not for the better. (Though I hope the tide will change.) I am thrilled that you are here and have begun! I find yoga to be fantastic for my brain and feel so good physically while I do it. If you are interested, I will share the DVD I got for beginners. Beth, woo hoo! I remember you saying that about the book. How is Norman? Are you going to stop for a bit with him and then go back as needed? Have fun at the gym! Annie, that is all so amazing. How the heck did you reduce cellulite?? What do you think did it? I have started the plank challenge, too, though I am not up to 90 by any means. I very much agree that weight changing isn't the point. I think the best measure is the way clothes fit . . .the way you feel in them, and out of them! And yes, EXACTLY!!! Time will pass whether or not we do anything, so what will we choose? So, what should we do after this? I initially did 6 weeks because 8 seemed too long and 4 too short. A part II for 6 weeks or ???

rob333 it really is that simple 12 flights! That's awesome!! I usually try to fill out my food log in the morning for the whole day. That way I can see what fits my plan before I eat it. (there's a mobile app too) If somebody treats cupcakes, I will look at my food diary and see what I want to give up to eat it - or not eat it. I usually decide it's not worth it. (a Panera vanilla cupcake is 450 calories - I can eat a whole meal for that - or walk 6 miles to make up calories. But the idea is to burn more than I eat, so....) I fully expect this to someday be a normal habit. As it is right now, I do put a good deal of thought and energy into planning. I usually walk 2 miles on my lunch break and if weather is bad, I go up and down the back set of stairs at work for 20 minutes. I usually put on a t-shirt and change back before I sit down again. I try very hard to not eat back any exercise calories. Another bonus is I am definitely more fit and firm in all the right places! So far it is working for me.

aok, I meant to respond to your question about yoga poses and your knee. Have you been going to a yoga studio, or do you know a yoga instructor you could consult with? In a class, you are not generally required to do anything that is uncomfortable or impossible to perform, physically. There are also blankets, pads, and other items many studios have that can help aid the positions in comfort. I will just add that I too once had a knee problem that sounds like yours. Any time I got down on my knee for a period of time, it would ‘lock’ and be very painful. I finally went to an orthopedic doc about it. Turned out I had a cartilage issue, plus some arthritis. Had minor arthroscopic surgery, about a 3-month recovery, and now it’s fine. You might get yours checked out.

I don't know what a fitness pal is, but over on the Home and Decorating page - Conversation Side, there is a thread about supporting each other for a 6-week fitness program (your choice). It's just a support group helping and applauding as we progress along.

I have linked the site, Just scroll down to "6 weeks to fitness - week 2" and the same title but with Week 1 will be just below it.

If you post your request there as well you may find some takers.

Hi salgal,

I don't have much that I need to do regularly (except pee ... and, more frequently, the need for the other job goes along with it ... and I don't have much need for a fitness pal to keep me in line with that issue).

Should do more walking.

Spend more time doing more productive things than playing games on computer at home. Like cleaning/decluttering house; getting garden prepared.

Since you've not offered option of private email ... could you elaborate some on the fitness boot camp at church? What's involved, what leadership, etc., please?

OJ, we meet twice a week outside in a large grassy area of the church.
We have 2 leaders that alternate leading.
We do all sort of things...jumping jacks, high knees, push-ups, even a game that is sort of a cross between tag and ring-around-the-rosie.
All activities are demonstrated with a low and high impact as well as low and high intensity.
We only go for 1 hour. It is fun and gets a bunch of us out of the house and moving for a while.

Oh, and My Fitness Pal is an online tool that allows you to track your food and exercise. I have been using it quite faithfully. The program allows you to interact with others. "friends"

I've gained 30 pounds over the last 2 years. Just by giving up drinking Coca Cola I have lost 3 pounds. I've made no other lifestyle changes. I will be starting a Yoga class in a couple of weeks. I don't think I need any online buddy support at this point.
