I can't find white glossy subway 3X6 tiles in Greece!!

Hello, I live in Greece and although i had found a shop with subway tiles with beveled edge, at the last minute they told me that the factory (which is in Spain) doesn't sent them currently (not just them but to every country) cause someone else took the factory. I hope it will get solve quickly but they can't give me an answer as to when or if. And i looked in lots of other shops and they all say that they don't make that size anymore!!!!

The thing is i'm remodeling my kitchen and i really really wanted white glossy tiles 3X6 and i don't know what to do now!!!

I was thinking if i can make subway tiles 3X6 by cutting square tiles, of course i wouldn't be doing that, but the guy that is putting the tiles.

Could it actually work?? Has anyone does something like that before? It's not a big kitchen, i just need 70 sf of tiles.

Or does anyone know if i can order them from England or Italy or Spain?? Because from USA it will be expensive with the shipping and all.

I would really appreciate it if someone can help me!! I can't sleep at nights!!!

Which just goes to show how much we (you and everyone else) are culturally trained to want things to be "just right" in a certain specific way.

I googled 152 mm x 75 mm wall tile uk

and came up with many results, including the following.

There's all kinds of stuff, including the very beautiful and expensive Craven Dunhill. But you can work your way up to that on your own!

Try to find a big company that has local dealers near you. You might even find that a big tile manufacturer makes many lines and many names, and is nearer than it appears, and you could drive there and load up. Wouldn't that be nice? It's worth poking around a little bit.

(I know I have seen this kind of tile in the UK. You could substitute IT, SP for whatever country you like to see their results.)

They may ship to you, or consider a little minibreak on one of those cheap euro airlines. Even charging for luggage, meals, bathrooms and air, you might come out ahead. Or maybe someone wants to visit you by train?

Another thing someone on this board suggested to me once was having a very white, shiny, featureless marble cut into the right size pieces.

Or are you all marbled-out in Greece!

Is there any reason to think the synthetic inside is going to make the tile fail in some way? FWIW, I'm pretty sure The Tile Shop and other chains are selling the same Chinese made product. This is not a high budget project in a big home. I'm a single girl in a condo and I want to upgrade the bath for me and for sale one day. I had fallen in love with some thassos basketweave when I was doing my shopping, but putting that $40/sq ft in my 900 sq ft condo (mind you, I like the fact that I don't take up much space) wouldn't make much sense. I wouldn't make back the investment when it comes time to sell my unit and move on and using thassos on the floor would eat up so much of my budget that I'd be reduced to using cheap subway on the walls. I love the look of cheap subway times, but with the company that makes the porcelain chair rail I wanted out of business, I didn't find my trim options attractive. I had the same thoughts before reading everyone else's posts...The 3 x 6 is more 'standard' and traditional, while the 4x8 would be a little more unique and bring a modern or industrial twist or zing to your kitchen...which I can like with traditional elements. Depends on what you want it to do. And Plllog does have a point about smaller tiles fitting in around things better, but I wouldn't necessarily let that decide it for me. Will one fit in the spaces using whole tiles, while the other will require cutting all the way along? (Remember to figure in grout lines) Even if I liked one better, if the other fit in whole, THAT could sway me to change my mind.

I am SO glad...the backsplash is the one decision we didn't consult with our designer on, as we couldn't afford it until we paid off some of our other kitchen expenses. I couldn't justify taking a loan as I've never done that...everything in our kitchen we've pretty much tried to pay off right away. That's how we've always been. Thank you so much for the wonderful comments, and I will post pics once are cabinets are up so you can all admire them along with us!!! I am so relieved, was starting to worry that I made a big goof, and am excited that you are all on this ride with hubby and I. I think this will be the last of my backsplash posts...because my wonderful MATTEAnn Sacks Heath ceramic tile will be coming in the mail in a few weeks!!!

From what I've learned from Bill Vincent, sanded grout is used for larger grout lines and unsanded for smaller ones or very delicate tile. You might also consider epoxy grout for your kitchen, since it's indestructible, mold-resistant, and doesn't need sealing, although it costs a bit more and your tiler might upcharge a little for the installation. I'm about to tile mine myself and plan on using the same epoxy grout (Laticrete's Spectralock) that I used in the bathroom, which I'm loving for its smoothness and consistent color. Most folks seem to go with 1/16th for a 3x6 subway tile, although some use 1/8th (bluekitobsessed, yours actually look like 1/16th to me?). If you take a stroll through the John Bridge tile forum, you'll see all kinds of examples of the different spacings in grouted tile. Here's one at 1/8th. From what I have read by the experts, it's OK to use your existing kitchen drywall for a backsplash. As long as it's in decent condition, you don't have to replace it with hardibacker, which is meant for places like showers that get lots of serious water exposure. I have yellow glossy tiles and cut 6"x6" squares in half to get my 3"x6" subway shape. Yes, it's tedious, but not difficult - it can be done! But the tiles must be flat and not beveled, or else the flat cut edges won't match.

Here's my DIY, with cut subways on the field and a row of the original shape squares along the top:
