I can't find white glossy subway 3X6 tiles in Greece!!

Hello, I live in Greece and although i had found a shop with subway tiles with beveled edge, at the last minute they told me that the factory (which is in Spain) doesn't sent them currently (not just them but to every country) cause someone else took the factory. I hope it will get solve quickly but they can't give me an answer as to when or if. And i looked in lots of other shops and they all say that they don't make that size anymore!!!!

The thing is i'm remodeling my kitchen and i really really wanted white glossy tiles 3X6 and i don't know what to do now!!!

I was thinking if i can make subway tiles 3X6 by cutting square tiles, of course i wouldn't be doing that, but the guy that is putting the tiles.

Could it actually work?? Has anyone does something like that before? It's not a big kitchen, i just need 70 sf of tiles.

Or does anyone know if i can order them from England or Italy or Spain?? Because from USA it will be expensive with the shipping and all.

I would really appreciate it if someone can help me!! I can't sleep at nights!!!

Which just goes to show how much we (you and everyone else) are culturally trained to want things to be "just right" in a certain specific way.

I googled 152 mm x 75 mm wall tile uk

and came up with many results, including the following.

There's all kinds of stuff, including the very beautiful and expensive Craven Dunhill. But you can work your way up to that on your own!

Try to find a big company that has local dealers near you. You might even find that a big tile manufacturer makes many lines and many names, and is nearer than it appears, and you could drive there and load up. Wouldn't that be nice? It's worth poking around a little bit.

(I know I have seen this kind of tile in the UK. You could substitute IT, SP for whatever country you like to see their results.)

They may ship to you, or consider a little minibreak on one of those cheap euro airlines. Even charging for luggage, meals, bathrooms and air, you might come out ahead. Or maybe someone wants to visit you by train?

Another thing someone on this board suggested to me once was having a very white, shiny, featureless marble cut into the right size pieces.

Or are you all marbled-out in Greece!

Is there any reason to think the synthetic inside is going to make the tile fail in some way? FWIW, I'm pretty sure The Tile Shop and other chains are selling the same Chinese made product. This is not a high budget project in a big home. I'm a single girl in a condo and I want to upgrade the bath for me and for sale one day. I had fallen in love with some thassos basketweave when I was doing my shopping, but putting that $40/sq ft in my 900 sq ft condo (mind you, I like the fact that I don't take up much space) wouldn't make much sense. I wouldn't make back the investment when it comes time to sell my unit and move on and using thassos on the floor would eat up so much of my budget that I'd be reduced to using cheap subway on the walls. I love the look of cheap subway times, but with the company that makes the porcelain chair rail I wanted out of business, I didn't find my trim options attractive. Wow,, am I glad I checked this thread. First-- Metro is annother tile company. I'm pretty sure instead of having lugs on the sides of the tiles like Dal's, it has a raised ridge that runs the whole perimeter of the tile, but does the exact same thing. As for HD, they have the very same Daltile, but they also have U.S. Ceramics, as well. Also not a bad tile. Secondly, as for matte vs brite glaze, there's no difference in maintanence. The only difference, pretty much is your taste. Third, the only problem I forsee with respect to hanging the Durock is that any time I've hung cement board where plaster was, the studs never seem to be in good alignment. But that's not a big deal. They can either be hand planed or shimmed, as needed. Other than that, it's a piece of cake. Lastly, DO NNOT take those HD classes. I sat in on one and tore the instructor to bits, to the point that he was ready to have me removed from the store. Those classes are a joke. Yes, that is historically correct. You will find matte floor tiles paired with gloss wall tiles. Now the level of gloss might be higher today, unless you go with reprod.tile, but overall the scheme is correct.

I had the same thoughts before reading everyone else's posts...The 3 x 6 is more 'standard' and traditional, while the 4x8 would be a little more unique and bring a modern or industrial twist or zing to your kitchen...which I can like with traditional elements. Depends on what you want it to do. And Plllog does have a point about smaller tiles fitting in around things better, but I wouldn't necessarily let that decide it for me. Will one fit in the spaces using whole tiles, while the other will require cutting all the way along? (Remember to figure in grout lines) Even if I liked one better, if the other fit in whole, THAT could sway me to change my mind.

I have yellow glossy tiles and cut 6"x6" squares in half to get my 3"x6" subway shape. Yes, it's tedious, but not difficult - it can be done! But the tiles must be flat and not beveled, or else the flat cut edges won't match.

Here's my DIY, with cut subways on the field and a row of the original shape squares along the top:
