Who owns a Nook??????????

Brian said get it....well it is alot of dollars but this is how I can justify it...LOL I can save money on the books, so that saves trees, and I won't have all those books cluttering the 5th wheel up...now if it was for the kids...I would have already done it...but dang I can't seem to turn loose for me!! So do you love it hate it wish you had gotten a different brand??? Stacy

Kindler here. I like mine, but I also read regular books as well. I don't know about the price of Nook books, but for K they usually run $9.99 each. Some are less, and some like classics, romance and religious fiction are often free.

You can go on over to kindleboards.com, scroll down to "Other non-Kindle Readers" forum to read more or ask questions. It's a friendly place like KT.

I'm waiting on my Ipad to arrive, I thought about a reader but thought the Ipad could do it all.

in colder zones.. many of the yellow tissued plants get winter burn ... so it not just cooler summer days.. it has to do with how protected the plant is from winter wind .. especially after winter winds are howling all night long.. both combines to desiccate leaf tissue.. and then burn ... and often in minor cases .... it doesnt SHOW until spring.. and then youre thinking something is happening in spring.. when it happened months ago ... ken

I've had a Kindle for several years and the only thing I don't like about it is I can't leaf through the pages to find a reference. I don't have any sentimental attachment to "real" books and appreciate not having to decide if I like a book enough to keep it on a shelf. I do wish I could share Kindle books with people who don't own one, but I am unwilling to lend them my Kindle. I know some people swap the actual Kindle among friends and family who also own Kindles, but I don't have anyone close who also owns a one. It is so much more portable than a book and I always seem to haul around a lot of stuff so the small size is great. If I could afford it I would love to have a tablet to read on and to nuts around on while watching TV. However, I need one that I can download and read Amazon Kindle offerings on. I like dealing with Amazon. I am a terrible pragmatist and can't understand why a lot of people feel strongly that a real book is more pleasant than a Kindle. However, I do wish Kindle book pages were numbered so I could easily skip around and find a desired passage. If anything were to happen to my Kindle I would immediately buy another because I don't want to give up the convenience of an e-reader. If Kindle came out in a tablet with a display as astounding as the I-Pad Retina I would buy it immediately. So far, they haven't matched the fabulous clarity of the Retina. Nancy

Hilarious! Although I think a couple of them were staged for the photos. But also, resourceful! At least they are trying to reduce the amount of "spray" they emit \when talking, sneezing, coughing, etc. And that sure beats no protection at all! (In my book, anyway!) Oh good. Thanks for the photo and further thoughts on fringe vs roomba bbstx! I'm seeing what is happening there with your fringe, and I'm ok with that here with the American area rugs with standard cheapo fringe I have. I think I would have to tuck in the Persian rug's fringe now that I can put the visuals and imagining together as it's rather long and thin. Also, good to know that the robot vacuum would turn itself off rather than die a death by way of eating fringe. :) That was a sweet story about your dd using a plastic fork to comb the fringe. :)) So I used the Sprayway on the nasty window just now. It did a good job of cutting through the crud that builds up in the tracks and film that appears on the glass. But I can now see that much of what bothers me is crud in-between the panes of glass :(. There's something wrong with the window that seems to be getting worse as time goes on. But, what I could clean, did come clean. Yay! Thumbs up!

dd who is 14 has a nook . She read all her AR books at school from the nook and a couple others too. I have read some from it and have to say I like it just as well as my kindle. My kindle needs 3G coverage and I'm in a spot that doesn't have it (yet). Well,that seems to be the problem. The nook will download books here at home wirelessly, when my kindle can't. That's just my area though, nothing to do with the kindle working well.
DD has a green leather cover for hers and it has served her well. I can imagine the trauma the nook would endure in her book bag with out the cover. So I would suggest getting a cover too. Reading from either the nook or the kindle is easy on the eyes too. Nothing like the computer screens glare.

I am a Kindle user too, and like Socks, I also read hard-copy books. I have been most pleased with the Kindle thus far.

If it is in your budget (and it sounds like it is), go for it! You will wonder why you hesitated...

I've been a Kindle owner for slightly less than two weeks now, and I love it. It was a surprise gift from my hubs. I've never even seen one of the Barnes & Noble Nooks in person or online... I LOVE my Kindle!

I've only downloaded 26 books to it so far, 24 here at home, and two while I was at work today. Don't have 3G coverage either place and the books showed up within a minute each time.

Toni - Amazon will allow you to put the Kindle application on your computer (it's a free application), and any books that you download to your Kindle you can also download to the Kindle app on your pc. So, if the wireless reception isn't good at your house, have the books downloaded to your pc - then you can transfer them (via the USB cable) to the Kindle.

The salesman at B&N told us that with the Nook, you can borrow books from the library! I have millions of books in our personal library, but we also are big library users, so the Nook would be perfect for us....but, alas, we haven't sprung for it yet.

Hmmm......I wonder if you can download newspapers and mags on it. My dtr loves her Kindle and Iphone, her hub loves his Ipad.

LOL, I thought you were talking about a nook in the home. I was going to show you a picture of my book nook!

I'm going to have to look up "Nook." I'm so out of it. :)

But I prefer reading books to a Kindle. I read a lot of historical books that has pictures, and I always refer to the pictures while I'm reading. Not sure if I could do that with a Kindle, could I?

DH has a Kindle and LOVES it. He gets instant download from Amazon after ordering online. Many are free :-) Our local library does not have the capability to download, so be sure to check on that before depending on access to yours.

The Kindle will put itself into Sleep Mode after 10 minutes of inactivity (e.g., you don't go to the next page of the book you're reading).

There are hundreds (if not thousands) of free Kindle downloads. You can also download the first chapter of any book for free as a "sample" to decide if it captures your attention enough to purchase the book.

I've been reading on my Kindle for several hours today. Just handed it over to hubs because he wants to read a book on it and I wanted to come to my 'puter and go online for a while. One thing that's so nice about reading on the Kindle is that you can hold it in one hand and turn to the next page to keep reading, no matter which hand you're using - right or left... so it's much more efficient than having to turn the pages of a physical book.

One big difference between a Kindle and a Nook is that a Nook weighs about 2 ounces more than a Kindle, so if you read for hours, as I tend to do, the Nook would feel much heavier than the Kindle and it might be more tiresome to hold it for long periods of time.

I've read some comparisons of the Nook and Kindle where the reviewers say how much nicer they think the Nook is because you can choose from different colored backs for it. My opinion on that? Who the heck cares? When I'm reading the Kindle, I'm looking at the FRONT of it, not the back. AND, there are hundreds and hundreds of different "skins" available for both the front and back of the Kindle, so you can customize it however you see fit.
