New Pool Construction

Been reading for quite some time on this site. There is so much helpful information and ideas about adding a pool that I wanted to share our current build process. It has just started (aside from the design), and certainly is a very exciting time for us.

And after landscaping (we had a pond, and our weather is normally fantastic!!! not sure why such a gloomy day)

Oh one more thing which I meant to ask before... Does anyone know a good way to clean that white line off our rock that sits down in the water? We've been told it will probably keep coming back, but we just want to be able to clean it up a little bit for special occasions. I tried some other recommendations that seemed to work a little bit. There has to be an easier way??? I guess you can't use a water softener or you'll get problems, or at least that's what Aqua Pools told us - can any water experts confirm that please or offer some suggestions. We love our rock, it's a paneled rock that looks nice down underwater, but we just wish somebody would invent a way to clean that line up.

Juiceysmom and Calicokitty, My husband and I hired Blue Marlin back in '97 to build our pool (new construction home). The folks there have been real good to us over the years and we're very happy with our pool. The in-floor cleaner is a fantastic option...go for that one more than any other feature. We don't have the salt-chlorinator, so can't offer a helpful opinion about it, and didn't have a spa installed because neither one of us liked the idea of it.

Why is there an inspection required, is it the city or homeowners association? I recently moved from The Woodlands where they required inspections but where I live now I don't think they are required. Any progress on your situation? It's really a shame that as many pools that are built in Texas there is zero regulation. I just don't get it but it doesn't surprise me in many ways. Anyone can be a pool builder and they can take your money and run, happens all the time. They also like to file for bankruptcy and start up in a few weeks under a different name. We had friends that had the same thing happen to them They had a hard time finding someone to finish it but they eventually did find a another builder. Most wanted no part due to the legal issues and previous unknown work. They never got their money back, guy filed for bankruptcy and got away with it. Why did you sign anything after the fact? That they hit rock would have been their own stupidity. Now it's costing you. If they dug too deep, the damage is on them. Play hard ball. They are. The broken decking should have been realized as a likely event, IMHO, you should have seen that one coming. That they would only make you pay for the 20% of undamaged is almost reasonable except they only left 20%. They should have covered it all. You can't leave 20%. That's ridiculous. The irrigation is normally toasted during this process. These guys will not pussy foot around when digging. If there is no Due Date for the delivery of the finished pool, you have no control over when they show because you have no leverage. Like I said, play hard ball. They are. Scott

Only problem I see is that it looks like they used flex pvc in the spa. Flex is not rated for in gunite use and could lead to leaks in the future.

We are located in Northern CA near bay area. That is a chardonnay vineyard in the background.

I am no expert on PVC, but all the plumbing is identical. They heated the PVC and bent it for the spa. Never done that on plumbing, but similar to conduit - large propane torch, heat and bend.

I will ask the PB anyway. Overall I am very pleased with them. They are very meticulous about every detail, etc. Of course, it is not a finished product, but so far the build could not have gone smoother - even after digging up a fire sprinkler line to the garage. Lots of water comes out of those!

pool32, what a beautiful pool! I love the lounge chairs you have in the water, that's something we also have been wanting to incorporate into our new pool (our home is currently under construction).

Your setting looks very similar to ours and our chardonnay vineyard is managed by Wente in Livermore...what a small world! Anyway, if you can recommend your PB (I know yours isn't complete yet, but if you're happy with him so far) I'd love to get the contact information from you. The world may be smaller than you think. If you look hard enough you might see Wente's tasting room in my pictures :)

Everything looks like it will be beautiful. What happened to the gorgeous pond and waterfall...is it in a different corner or did you have to remove it for the pool?

Your pool is going to be beautiful. And how wonderful to have it right by the vineyard like that. My husband and I still talk so fondly of the trip we took to "wine country" a few years ago.
Can't wait to see more pics.
