Have you ever had a Catch 22 situation?

I have one-

I have been going to college for 2 years. I graduated Saturday with an Associate Degree in Medical Administration with a minor in Medical Coding.

But- even though I have a degree most places want at least 6 months experience, some up to 2 years.

I understand this but how are you supposed to get experience if no one will give you a chance to get experience?

I do have an interview today with a temp service and she told me a lot of new graduates start with a temp service to get experience and some even go to permanent hire through the temp service.

You ever had a Catch 22 situation?

Yes. we have a duplex for sale. The prospective buyers want to know the rental income of the property, but we just remodeled and don't want to rent it. If we did rent it and could show income, then they want to discount it because of the wear and tear!! We figure the right buyer will come along.

Nan, when you were still going to school to earn the degrees, did you have to serve an internship? If so, that would serve as experience.

A few years back my wife and I were traveling on business in Brazil over Thanksgiving. A professor my wife was working with took us and several of the students to a churrascaria for dinner on Thanksgiving. (A churrascaria is a restaurant where servers roam around the restaurant with skewers of various cooked meats, continually stopping at each table to carve off some to everyone at the table) While there I mentioned that it was the US holiday of Thanksgiving and described it to the professor and the Brazilian students in general terms: get together with family and/or friends and have a large meal together, and described the "traditional" Thanksgiving meal. I was merely trying to make conversation, and make the point that what we were doing was pretty similar to the Thanksgiving tradition. However the professor responded "I'll see what I can do" and flagged the head waiter over, and spoke to him in rapid Portuguese. The waiter responded to us "We don't have any turkey but I'll see what we can do." and disappeared into the kitchen. About 10 minutes later he emerged from the kitchen followed by a server carrying a large skewer of meat, he presented it to us with a big beaming smile saying "This is as close as we could get to turkey. It's Ostrich." It didn't taste even a little like turkey, but it was delicious.

Thirty was happy for me. We were able to adopt our DS after six years of marriage and surgery that left me unable to conceive. This year has been an uneasy one because my mother died at this age -- in October. It was an awful year for her, slowing dying of leukemia, and for me as her only child. DH had mixed feelings when he reached the age at which his father had died of a heart attack. Because DH had never been told he was adopted, and because all of his father's brothers also died of strokes, he'd been allowed to assume he would have the same fate. (Another example of his adoptive mother's nature.) Now DH has lived 25 years longer than his father did. And ding-dong-the-witch-is-dead.

This is a classic example of when an architect can be your best friend. If you hire a good architect, one who charges between 7% and 15% of the construction cost, he will most likely include "Construction Observation" services. (And probably design a really nice cost efficient house for you as well.) This is a standard service where the architect continually visits the contractors and the job site to help insure the work is done accurately and with craftsmanship. He works for the owner and is the owner's expert. Therefore he only has the owner's goals in mind, not the contractor's, not the bank's. Beware, most people that think they can build a house since they've done a couple of remodelings find themselves way in over their head when trying to build a house. General contracting is much more complex than most people realize. In any event, I hope this helps. Best of luck with your project.

Congratulations on graduating! I found the same situation when I tried to apply for NICU position in some hospitals, every time someone with experience got hired over me. I could find something in a bigger city in VA (where a friend of mine works and who told me they hire new nurses all the time) but I didn't want to move.

You may end up with a permanent position out of the temp position. When I moved back to NV after not working for a few years that's how I got my first long-term job. It was a temp position but they liked me and offered me a permanent position, and requested the temp agency release me early. They did.

That's how I got this job, been here for 8 years. Graduated with 2 accounting and 1 business management degree, then worked temp jobs for a couple of years. I had long-term temped in this office and then a year later they were hiring a new full time position. I was the "winning" candidate out of 50 because the boss already knew my experience.

Son lost his wallet. Went to get driver's license replaced and they wanted his social security card. LOST WITH WALLET. They said we could get a print out of his card at the Social Security office. They want his driver's license or student ID to do this. LOST WITH HIS WALLET. Went to college to get his ID replaced and they want his driver's license before they will do it!!!! LOST WITH HIS WALLET.

I thought a birth certificate would be enough to get the social security care. Maybe I'm wrong?
