Comments (9)My kitchen is very clean and contemporary. I wanted glass tile, but was afraid the molded glass would be too severe. I needed something softer to take the edge off, literally. So, I went with hand cut glass tiles instead of molded. It gives the backsplash a more handcrafted feel. I also threw in a small wrought iron shelf and some hand made pottery to soften things up a bit more. Sounds like you'll do the same with the wood pieces. Those rustic grape tiles seem to be grasping at making the room less contemporary. I am afraid they will not serve your purpose, but rather just look out of place. I don't love the Botticino tiles either, but that's just me. I agree that a ceramic tile with a soft undulating texture would work as a good transitional look. The kitchen that comes to mind is Rococogurl's. She did a very straightforward backsplash, using simple tiles but mixed a nice selection of colors. For your kitchen, I probably would suggest three or four colors, even more closely related/less contrasty. I like your idea of 4x4s set on a diagonal. A mix of colors would create a softer look than all one color (think of heathered yarns in a sweater) and you could still throw in some 4x4 accents, either glass or an accent color in the same tile as the field tile. (The latter would be my choice.) Keep looking and I'm sure you'll find some middle ground....See MoreBenjamin Moore Subtle, Jicama, Palace White?
Comments (22)I agree with Boniieann925 that BM Bone White is a very close match to BM Palace White but the Bone White is more neutral and slightly lighter with less gold/yellow. Both are nice and creamy and go great with BM Semi-gloss white trim. I will look for pictures to post when I get some sleep. The Palace White may also me nice since I love every picture it is in. I would paint two foam boards both of these colors and any other color you think you would like and move them around the room and then put then against white trim....See MoreLove it or Hate it - Need some feedback!!!
Comments (26)Overall I like the general color scheme, but not sure what the overall feel your going for. It seems to have a lot of formal elements combined with a few casual elements from different genres. For example, the couch is very casual with built in recliners, but it's next to heavy formal drapery. A few comments. The white seems too bright, like an ultra white, I would have went for a toned down white with these colors. I like the ceiling, but I think the striping with the tray ceiling is a little bold for "warm and comfortable". I would prefer a solid color. To me, the way it is now makes the paint the story rather than the actual archeticuital details being the story. It would also help with scale, the baseboards seem big given the size of the crown. The walls seem bare and the artwork is either too big (fireplace) or at the wrong level (behind couch). I share the same views as other on the furniture placement, move it off the walls. Can you define how you want to use the room. Just walking in the room, I wouldn't know if this was suppose to be a casual TV watching room, or a more formal living room. I find when you don't know what a room is for, you feel uncomfortable....See MoreNeed an off white BM paint with white cabinets and appliances?
Comments (2)I bought a ton of white samples and did sample boards. That's really the best way to evaluate them. Do you have a sample cabinet door? If so, sure, take it to be matched, but still get a sample and test it. Or do you want to do a different white on your walls? That's trickier, and the answer is still samples....See MoreBunny
