I like your kitchen, its very nice. I think the bead board backsplash will be very nice, but I can't help you with the placement details as I am not good at that.

I was wondering how the steely blue would go with the countertop you have? I had a steely blue kitchen until recently and it was hard to find the right color. I ultimately ended up taking paint samples to Home Depot and Lowes and matching their blue cabinet doors in kitchen displays to the paint. You might want to consider green. Here's one of my favs:

Also keep in mind that steely blue is a cool color and you may prefer warmth for farmhouse look. Also, I don't think of blue as a rustic color. You might want to look at Sherwin Williams color chart for rustic colors for some ideas.

For my steely blue cabinets, I used stainless hardware and it looked great, but you might want to do ORB to go with the glazing.

Lastly, I would recommend you not paint the insides of the cabinets. Paint chips over time and its annoying to have to rinse your dishes and pots before using.

If you don't love green, don't do it. How about using a gel stain to stain the island darker?

I think I see a gas range. How is the microwave venting draw? I ask as I understand it is sometimes more limited, and since your re-doing those lovely cabinets, now might be the time to check the venting issue out. Cook a meal known to produce effluent, and enjoy it while testing the vent at the same time.

Below is a link from Houzz showing a Bistro Style Kitchen with bead board. It uses vertical lines as a focal point, and I note they keep the bead board behind the range as well as over the small soffit. Perhaps this will give you some ideas.

Look at this island..I just ran across it!

I had never considered staining the island! How gorgeous those photos are!! We should be moving in next weekend, so I'll be sure to test that microwave venting system. I love big, statement range hoods, but we have a few more pressing projects (like flooring in the whole house) to work on before I can convince my #1 to let me demo. :)

You've got a great starting point! You could even consider putting glass in some cabinets, which is a great farmhouse look. (Your DH may hate this site when it's over, for giving you too many ideas:) Also, check out one of my absolute favorite kitchens - just google For the love of a house, and look at her kitchen. It's a great farmhouse look, with great beadboard details!

I think the area behind the range is too small to do much besides continue the beadboard. Around the window my choice would be to leave the beadboard at the height of the cabinet bottoms and add a little trim, or maybe go further up the window, like Thrifty Decor Chick did:

In our last house, we did not have a back splash at all, and when we moved out, I hacked at that wall with a magic eraser, sponge, steel wool, EVERYTHING to try and clean off the 3+ years of cooking goo that landed there. Granted, I inherited a bachelor pad, but I want to prevent that again.

Unless you put the peel and stick tile over the beadboard, it will not match the depth of the beadboard. You could add a simple stainless steel panel like this one from Ikea.

In my previous house I painted the cabinets white and used beadboard painted white. I went about halfway up the sides of the windows. I had a gas range with a microwave vented to the outside. I just cleaned off the area behind the stove every time I used the burners. I used oil paint (2 coats primer, 3 coats oil) and never had a problem cleaning them for the 8 yrs we were there.

That being said, don't make the mistake I made of using real beadboard, the tongue and groove kind. Use the panel beadboard. Because of the changes in humidity, there were always spaces between the boards so were much more high maintenance.

We put crown molding on top of the cabinets and pewter-type hardware and it was a beautiful kitchen. I miss it! ðÂÂÂ

I used panel beadboard and painted with Ace Cabinet and Trim paint, which is an oil-latex hybrid (Alkatex). My backsplash has only been up a few weeks, but my cabinets have been painted about almost a year and they clean up great.

I googled stainless steel peel & stick tiles a while back thinking perhaps my brother could use them in his DIY bath remodel, but I came across at least one story of random tiles detaching. I personally think the tiles might look busy with beadboard, but the stainless steel panel idea might be worth considering if you're nervous about cleaning paint.

The beadboard will look strange as a backsplash, because there is so little room for the vertical boards to show. Consider using it elsewhere and using paint or a plain tile backsplash. The granite is a strong pattern - you have to work with it.

Beadboard on the island has more room to show its verticality.

Definitely you MUST consider the granite before picking ANY color. Use it as the "must look good with" surface to match or blend.

I'm trying to work around that quirky yellow rooster there... I bought it at Hobby Lobby and really really love it. I really have never done anything like this before (this is our second house, and we did nothing to the first one except paint a random bathroom and waaaaay overdo dark red everywhere)

We will (hopefully) close and move in next week (gotta love foreclosures!) and have new floors installed, then I can attack the kitchen! I appreciate everyone's feedback... I don't want to have to do this twice! ;)

I agree with the poster that said the granite has to be your jumping off point. That granite does not look neutral., so it has to look good with the granite or it won't work.

This looks like the same granite that is in my bathroom and if it is, it may not work with Green. You have a great kitchen with great potential. I love all of the things on your mood board.

We are supposed to do a walkthrough of the house today or tomorrow, so when that gets done I'll be sure to get a close up photo of the granite and post it. I know we're not changing it, even if we don't love it, so we'll just have to make it work for us. I'll keep you updated!

I love that kitchen! And that rooster. I'm dangerously close to going overboard with the roosters. That granite looks a lot like mine, with the dark stained island that others were suggesting! I wish this kitchen had hardwood floors, then I could really see how it would all go together!! Great find!

The pendant light is Chadwick by Landmark, 13" oil rubbed bronze pendant, from Destination Lighting.. It's on back order until July, but I bet you could find it somewhere else? I tried a quick google and struck out, but I think a little research would pay off.

I know the lighting is bad because it's dark and stormy here, but I think the wall color goes with the granite well. Am I color blind? The other chip is the cabinet color and the wood is our future floor.

Amy-I love your granite. It is the same granite I have in my bathroom. My tub front and vanities are dark like your wood sample and I had an ID pick the paint color for me to go with the granite and the window treatment. I'll find out the paint color if you want me to.
