Even though the last picture is very Tempting, it's not Temptation..it looks more like Aphrodite to me and the one you have labeled Aphrodite may or may not be, it's gorgeous with that beautiful picotee feathering into the flower..could the next to the last one be Double Record..? There is one called Rainbow also that in my case turned out to look exactly like my Aphrodite... Anyway, you have produced such beautiful flowers from your crosses, I just hope some of mine are half as nice as yours and not a bunch of duds..can't wait to see more of your creations... Donna

Ahhh, H. xjohnsonii! Obviously everyone has already answered whether it is or not. H. xjohnsonii is one of my absolute favorite cultivars too, I love it! Your plant looks like another old heirloom, H. vittatum and H. psittacinum could very well be the parents!

Hey, Carol. I'm impressed that you know such detail about the freezes. You gotta be one hard-core gardener. I think the lowest we got here was 27 degrees for most of one night and then the other night was maybe around 29? A few degrees and a few hours can make a significant difference. The Hamilia Patens or Firebush is quite sensitive to below-freezing temps. What happened with mine is that we hadn't experience such a hard freeze in something like seven years? So the plants just kept on growing, 24-7 every day of the year. They had completely taken over one large portion of my yard that sits in back of the swimming pool. The Firebush is a thug where I live. It has to be worse further south. I tolerate them only because they produce flowers that attract butterflies and hummingbirds. Pretty much all of my plants came back, or tried to, (I have killed off a number of them.) I don't recognize the leaves that you photographed. They may be from your orchid tree. You might think of looking at other parts of your garden to see if there are more like them. I would be tempted to pull one leaf out to see if it is attached to a fairly developed root structure. Trees usually throw out a pretty extensive root system before they show much greenery on top.

Oh no! I visited your post last night and thought about the Sri Lanka Beetle that has caused significant leaf damage on some of my ornamentals, but I don't have a Loquat or a HKO. Our county extension agent recommended Sevin but said to change pesticides on your next attack because Sri Lanka Beetles quickly grow immune to whatever you spray on them. I called a lawn service to spray because there was no way I could get to the tops of Tibouchinas or Powder Puff. A week later, I'm spotting those critters down low, like on african iris. This year I've squished hundreds of them. Oh, and they're mating now. Thanks for posting the link, Oldflorida. Good luck with your Orchid Tree and Loquat. You stated before that you have a pesticide free yard: that is really great, so I know this has to be heart wrenching for you. Good luck.
