We are staying for a while. I wanted the big, old, double wide jacuzzi gone and put in the plain soaking tub for me. That is what drove the remodel. Yes, the archway will be tiled, didn't want any water problems since we will try to not have a door so I want the tile wrapped around the edge. Hopefully the tile will be finished today and the grout in next week! There will not be tile to the right of the shower arch. Will check on the color of paint. I will post pictures after we are finished...thanks for asking.

All of these things originated as a way to cover the junction of dissimilar materials. The most pure of modern/minimal designs have No trim, including door frames, window frames or base. (There is usually a very narrow reveal at the floor often called a museum reveal. However, this type of modernism comes at a very high price, because the junctions and seams between things need to be perfect. The easiest one to leave out in a typical modern build was the crown, since it is generally a change of plane only, not materials.

I am so glad you like my floors so much! Funny, when first looking at the house, I wasn't sure I liked them. Now I *LOVE* them. Especially after my DH sealed them with a high gloss finish. YUM! No, you don't see anything between the wall and the ceiling, although I can see where you can't really tell what the heck is going on between the wall and ceiling. One reason I am really considering crown is the guys who did the knockdown on the ceiling...they did not make a *clean* cut between the ceiling and the wall. It is not noticeable in the dining/living room or the family room because the walls are painted a sandy white (and we plan on picking a more exciting color eventually, we are just overwhelmed right now and played it safe with the off white...but do you like that wall color? DH said maybe we should stick with it, because we want our floors to stand out...we don't want wall color to compete w/the floors. This is a topic for another thread, probably, LOL.)but in our bedroom, which is painted a dark, army green color...it is very noticeable. Also, my DD's room is painted a deep red. The line between the wall and ceiling is not "crisp." Can I do crown in only the bedrooms? Is that weird or acceptable? Also, in DD's room, I am thinking of getting funky and doing a black crown, even though that breaks the "rules." Her floor is a "Sambuca" colored bamboo...it is almost black. Her baseboard is the same as the rest of the house...almost 5" off white. Anyway, thanks for the continued help and support! I am very overwhelmed in this house, it is such a blank canvas which sucks when you are a) a decorating novice and b) on a tight budget! :(

AS suggested, I've been looking at pics on Houzz - beach style, farmhouse and cottage too. I rarely see chair rails in those styles and if they have them there is wainscot or shiplap below and the chair rail is very simple. Here is a pic of the current DR that shows the style of the chair rail we have now (close up on bottom right corner of pic). Also the furniture which will stay. I'm thinking of leaving the windows plain - no drapes. If anything a simple/casual shade. Carpet is being replaced by LVP in a lighter/med wood look. DH wants to keep a ceiling fan/light but we can update it. The chair rail style we have just looks too "traditional" to me for this space but I may have to live with it - although I would love to at least replace it with something really plain. I was thinking a rich tan/beige on top and white below, with white trim? This color scheme would carry through the living areas. Would love shiplap on the bottom but I don't think we have funds for that! I guess I would depend on artwork and accessories for color,
