I mowed the lawn yesterday for Mother's Day. And I didn't get a gift certificate for a massage. But, I did get a sprayer attachment for my garden hose. How's that for sentimental? ;-)

Exceptional! Out of all the projects I've done over the years, painting and adding new life to patio furniture has to be my favorite makeover. Not hard, and the return is amazing. Please post again after you add the strapping. I missed my chance to do that with an old set and sold it instead. Wish I had tried it.

Looks absolutely fantastic! If your weather was anything like ours you had a wonderful day for painting. Count me in on liking the patio. We hope to get to ours next summer - we are collecting old bricks and flagstones from anywhere we can scrounge them.

DH powerwashed the house for me as my Mother's Day present. (He says I'm one of the most maternal people he knows, just to animals and grownups instead of children LOL so I deserved a Mother's Day present too!) We had major road and sewer construction going on a block from us for the first year and a half we lived here so there was no point in washing the siding until they were all done. He got a pressure washer at a yard sale for less than it would have cost to rent one for a day. The water coming off the house was so dirty that it looked like root beer and our streetcorner reeked of Simple Green! We now live in a cream and white house, not a beige and cream house... Even on the low-pressure setting so much paint came off the porch that we now have no excuses not to paint it this summer. ;-)

Wow, you did an amazing job. Did you have any special nozel or spray attachment? I find spray painting so difficult because of my arthritis but I know there are special spray attachments now that you can attach to the can. I was just wondering if you maybe used one of those and you could tell me how it worked out.

Wow you did a beautiful job! your post is perfect timing for me since I was just talking about redoing ours last night. I too would love to know what you did as far as the prep work and what paint & color you used. I have never done this project before so not sure where to begin

Not a lot of prep work! MY kind of project! First, I removed the strapping and then washed the chairs with a mild soap and a scrub brush to get off all the dirt. I then, spray painted using RustOleum's Bright Coat Metallic spray in Dark Bronze. I used about 8 cans for all seven pieces. Yes, brutuses, I did use one of those spray attachments. So worth it, although it did break on can 6! It made the job much easier on the trigger finger!

Awww... I didn't get anything for mother's day! Granted, I just have 4 dogs, but still. My husband put gutterless-gutter on our new house yesterday. Maybe that was my present. LOL

As someone who has been doing tons of spray painting this spring .... YOU NEED TO GET AN EXPENSIVE MASK !! They are $40 at Lowes. You commented that you were smelling spray paint all night...so I am perhaps assuming wrongly that you didn't wear a mask. But for others here is an important message. Please donot ever use any sprays w/o wearing the best mask and keep the filters changed. Also when sanding and even using s wire brush.Also wear long sleeves and goggles. Always be as safe as you can. C

I have an OT question. I love your landscaping and wonder what the two tall, narrow, deciduous shrubs are in the fourth picture.

BOY...do I ever need to do that! I have been wanting new patio furniture for the last couple of years. It never occurred to me that i could paint the existing set, much less get new strapping. How do you go about taking off/putting on new strapping and where would you buy it?

Also, what type of sprayer did you use...cost? I also have hand arthritis so an attachment would be great.

I love your patio and grounds! Did you lay the patio on an existing concrete pad?

NHB, the patio was NOT a DIY project but I know they were not laid on concrete. As for the spray attachment, it is readily found in the paint aisle. Very inexpensive plastic trigger type that fits on top of the can.

(I got to make breakfast for my family on Mother's Day, same as every Sunday, because I stupidly said I'd rather eat at home than fight the crowds. Teenager said he assumed I'd rather eat a breakfast that tasted good more than one that he could cook :-) Won't happen again next year! DH is shopping for a new computer to replace my old laptop though, and just didn't narrow it down in time for the big day.)

NHB, I am using the Bronze. It goes perfectly with the paint color. I will have stone colored cushions over them.

Fabulous!! I was going to grill you about the process and the products but I am late to the party and you have already done that.

My DB has an old set that I thought was too much trouble to bother with but you have given me new energy around that project.

This has inspired me to give some old lounge chairs some TLC! Now a question; we have a table that is in great shape, but missing the glass. Can a person get replacement glass for a round table? I'm assuming I wouldn't want it to be just regular ol' glass, right? Maybe wrong! I have no idea, hence the question. :-) But I'm ready to tackle some outdoor projects! Thanks!

You can have a glass shop measure and cut the glass for you and yes, it must be tempered glass.
