Hi Amanda! I think you've got a good start to a beautiful foyer. Those floors are lovely. To get that Wow factor, you need to introduce a bit of boldness there, though. At the moment, everything is small (lamp. tree) or pretty monochromatic. I think your tree in the corner is too small for that area. My suggestion would be to either move the chest and mirror over and center them or add a chair angled in that corner, if there's room. I'd also add a taller lamp with a dark shade and a rug . . . perhaps an Oriental with some color to it. Maybe replace whatever that is in the middle of your chest there with a colorful, low bowl. Another idea would be to replace the mirror with a large framed print or painting.

Is the chest/mirror combo not centered because the door swings into that area, and you are worried about the door making contact with the chest? Assuming that is the case, let's say the chest has to stay where it is.

I would turn the mirror the other way, to give more height and not overwhelm the chest below. The lamp idea is nice, but I think you need something much taller there.

The little topiary on the floor is way too small to be used that way. It belongs up on a table or counter. I would consider getting a tall palm or other tree for that space to the right of the chest.

I would think a nice rug, perhaps round, would be great in the entry to bring in some color and softness.

Thanks for the ideas, the lamp and the bowl I can do. What about the tree, should I get a taller one? I really like the idea of turning the mirror. I can't move the chest because of the door.

The rug has me stumped! I can't even imagine where to start , round, I guess is as good a start as any!!

I've taken a few more pictures with a couple of other things in that corner. One seems still too small and the other seems way too big.

The height of the tree is good, especially if you turn the mirror. I think what you need, tho, is something a bit airier, more open space among the branches, and perhaps something that branches lower, rather than such a long trunk. That is why I was thinking palm, or you could look at bamboo as well.

Once the lamp is changed, you may want to switch it to the other side to balance out the tree a bit. Turning the mirror will also make the height of the tree seem less overwhelming.

I agree with everything Les has said. I too like the height of the tree, but think it's just a tad overwhelming and something airier would work better. Turn that mirror, and it's going to really pull together. Very pretty space!

Amazing what a few simple changes can do to a room! I agree about changing the mirror so that it hangs vertically and putting a taller lamp (opposite the tree) on the chest. When you hang the mirror the other way, take the topiary you had sitting in the corner and put it up on the chest as if it was the lamp. It might give you a better idea of size for the lamp. You're eye will know. Then vary the height of the accessories on the chest.

Like the tree/palm/turn mirror idea. I would get a taller lamp for the left side, remove the little plant and replace with a bowl in the middle. Move the smaller frame to the right side.

Love Les's idea about moving the mirror to hang the other way. a round area rug would be great here. I agree with getting a larger lamp, just having it and a small bowl for keys, etc.

In terms of the tree you put in that corner, I love the light coming in and I would definitely not want to see that blocked. So airy, yes, and not too tall. Also, you don't need to put the smaller things all the way in the corner, you can center them in between the chest and the corner. something a bit beefier could still work there- a pretty umbrella stand, a trailing plant on a pedestal, etc.

I'm shopping for a lamp, bowl, rug, and tree starting this weekend. I will post update, just don't expect it too soon!

Squirrel, there she goes again. I do think she said the chest cannot be centered because of the dooor. I do like the sconces though.

I wonder if you should keep chest off center. Leave taller tree. Turn mirror up and down. Use larger lamp on left side. Maybe do the sconces. Circular rug to break up all the square lines?

You have the right stuff, just need to reposition.

I guess it depends how often they like to keep the door left open. The larger tree which she's trying would take a lot of that space away anyway.

The sconces could be non-electric candle sconces or even pics.

I'm sorry it's taken me so long to update, but I'm still not done. This is what I've done so far. DH thinks the mirror needs to be higher and I agree, so he'll get around to that on his own time. I have my eye on a palm tree at Hobby Lobby I think would be okay in the corner. I'm still looking for a rug, but don't want to break the bank. Would you say this is an improvement?

Oh yeah, I didn't want the door hitting the chest, I have three kids and I paid way too much for it.

I like the mirror vertical, but think you shouldn't raise it any higher at all. Still don't love the topiary. I think the chair idea could work, but you need a padded parsons chair slipcovered in a sumptous pattern.

Hi - that's coming along very nicely. I think the mirror is now at the proper height, I wouldn't raise it.

I wonder what a nice hat or coat rack would look like for height, with the chair angled as is, but with a nice pot and plant sitting on top of the chair?

The colors of that container with lid, compliment the dresser, wood flooring and chair. Would it work to put that on the chair with lid open and plant tucked inside? A fern, a good looking fake one if you have to, to get some airiness and trails softly.

Just more ideas to fiddle around with! Have fun.

I love the changes. I really love everything so far but the chair pad. I also feel the mirror is at the right height. The chest is so beautiful in finish and design. That is the color I wanted my dresser in my spare room. That is one of the prettiest chests I ever saw. I love the two new lamps.

The first thing that came to my mind was a free standing tall hat/coat rack with a time period architectural design to it that matches the area.

for the mirror height, can you see yourself properly in it ? if your dh is tall, test the height for eye level between both your heights. I think your mirror could actually be lower, you don't want a total disconnect between the chest and it.

I think you should pare down the accessories, put 3 things on one side of the chest, and one lamp on the other. It's ok to have an empty corner.

Do not raise the mirror! Lol! Since you want to raise it higher, then lowering it is probably out of the question. I would leave it as is! The topiary and little chest it sits on seem a little busy. Take those out and scoot the chair in towards the chest a little OR as said, try a coat tree for that corner. It will balance out the mirror.

First, let me thank you so much for all the ideas. You have no idea how much I appreciate them. I also would like to thank you for your patience if I'm a little slow catching on.

I went out to Kirklands Home today to buy a couple things for the living room (another disaster area) and I met up with a teacher friend of mine. She's got the Summer off and her and her best friend said they love to decorate and we are planning to get together in a couple weeks. I'm so excited!!

Anyway, I bought the coat rack and put it where the chair was and cleared out a few things. Maybe you can give me yet some more ideas on where to go with this?
