Fireplace and Built In Inspiration Pictures

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had a good source for fireplace and built in media center inspiration pictures. We're updating our old finished basement and have a raised hearth type fireplace. I don't want to break the bank. Because of a funky fp placement, the entertainment center will be on the adjacent wall (at a 90 degree angle). Any help would be appreciated! I've already perused the gallery.

Also, any basement kitchenette pics? We're adding a sink with some cabinetry as part of finished basement room.

Check out this site for lots of great fireplace built-in ideas. I came across it & have saved a few for inspiration for our family room.

We, too, are thinking about working on our basement. It is partially finished, we built the house 10 years ago, and have so far put in and office, bathroom and bedroom. But we have a large area that we'd like to have as a rec room for our pool table, dart board, air hockey table....etc etc. Just a game room I guess you could say. One idea I saw once, that I'd like to incorporate somewhere in ours is a built in fridge. A friend of ours had finished their basement, and in one section, they had an unfinished area for storage, a tool bench, etc....closed off from the finished part. But in there, they had a fridge, where the door opened up to the finished part, so from the finished part, the fridge was built into the wall. It really was quite neat. We are going to have an unfinished area too, where our utilities are, and I'd like to include a fridge there, having it built into the wall into the finished section. Angie

Need TV built in inspiration for new build...HELP

Oh, the problem TV's present with decorating, and now with all their accompanying electronics it is even more difficult. Your home is very handsome and I understand that you would not want your TV as a focal point. les917 gives a good option. I'll propose another but construction will be involved. Looking at your room, no other option comes to mind. How far does your fireplace project into your room? Would you consider building a false wall with an inset into which your TV could be placed? Of course you would still need a cabinet below to contain all the electronics. But, if your TV were to be set into a niche, then the option to disguise it behind a pull-down art scene or shutters is available. You probably would need about 8" to accomplish this. Hopefully another will offer a better suggestion. Good luck in your new home.

columbusguy1, thanks. I too am thinking I will not run the closet over the door. There is another door just across the corner from the bath door. So would be difficult to run the closet around the corner. Does that make sense? Also can't afford to lose that much space from the room to run another closet on the other wall. moccasinlanding, yes there would be enough space. The wall we intend to build it out on is at the end of the bedroom. Have measured it out and would still leave plenty of room between the end of the bed and the closet. Probably even enough room to have a bench at the end of the bed. This first picture posted is from our laundry/mud room and that closet if full already! Quite a few rooms away from the guest bedroom, so not an option to convert it to a guest closet. We really do need the extra closet storage space, as our home was originally a school house and there are no built in closets. So all (3) closets that exist are built out style closets. The ones below are in our bedroom, and they are just not enough. So we would use most of the space in the guest room closet as well. Would leave some for guests, but only have weekend guests a few times a year. Our bedroom closets...

Hope you are better at uploading photos than we are; our experience was accompanied by a lot of yelling! cpartist and lazy_gardens, That photo with the "white stuff" is not at all representative; we just use it to keep potential visitors at bay! Typically, we get 30-40 inches a year, but most of it falls at night and melts off early in the morning due to the intense sun, which makes shoveling usually unnecessary. chicagoans, Certainly appreciate your comments, but my husband says he's never posted drawings before on either GW or houzz. Can't help with the Entertainment Center because our media space, in the basement, has no cabinetry and is separate from the fireplace. We do have a kitchenette as part of our bar and I'm linking the basement photos. Some comments have been added below the pictures should any be in interest.

fnmroberts: what a great space. So many wonderful, clever ideas! Do you cook there with the cooktop often?

I especially love the built in bookcase on casters and the back lit doors. That looks like a basement I would be more than happy to spend time in. Thank you!

Thank you, we made it casual so guests would relax as our main home tends toward formal. Hopefully some ideas will fit your needs.

No, it's not a daily use kitchen but is used on hot evenings in the summer. We entertain large groups and cook there then (32#'s of corned beef on St. Patrick's). Or in the winter, use the grill insert when going outside is undesirable. Actually, the oven is better than the one in our main kitchen and we prefer it for baking.

I had some nice pics saved and just deleted them as we took the fireplace out of the plan that we are building. While I LOVE the inspiration sites, to get a more realistic idea of what I could do within our budget, I went to realtor.com and looked at houses for sale. You can sort through and look at the high end, or your can sort by how many pics a house has. I have saved a lot of ideas from doing this. It takes time, but has been worth it.
